The Da Vinci Code

Dan Brown's next opus will be "The Michelangelo Matrix Masonic Maze." It will reveal how an Italian painting was used by Hollywood producers to elect Bush to the White House.

Bet you can't wait!

I don't like his writing at all. There were some good ideas in DVC, but I absolutely hated the way his supposedly smart characters converse. His other books are worse in that way; I could hardly finish A&D, the characters were so stuuupid..

Love it!!! :D

Dan Brown is in London at present defending charges of plagiarism. It is rumoured he is doing research for a book with the provisional title of "Jack, Queen, King and Ace."

The premise is that Queen Victoria had a son by Jack the Ripper; the boy became king, but was forced to abdicate when it was revealed he had had a gay affair with a tennis player.

Any more suggestions?

i did not like this book

through the whole book it is exciting and you can't wait to see how it ends and then he kills the book with a hollywood ending

the ending of the book for me ruined it and can't stand now hearing anything about that stupid book

I can't believe it has taken you a week to get to chapter 36!!!

When i read it, i didn't put it down until about 7-9 hours after i picked it up. This book is really addicting.

Gawd...I was beginning to think I was completely alone here. IMHO, it was a great read from page one. To hear the rest of you guys, one wonders how this novel managed to keep selling as many copies as it does. By the way, IT'S FICTION so can we stop all this pontificating about how an author should or should not portray historical characters.

By the way, IT'S FICTION

Dan Brown doesn't think so.

FACT:

The Priory of Sion - a European Secret Society founded in 1099 - is a real organisation. In 1975 Paris's Bibliotheque Nationale discovered parchments known as Les Dossiers Secrets, Identifying numerous members of the Priory of Sion, including Sir Issac Newton, Sandro Botticelli, Victor Hugo and Leonardo da Vinci

That author's note appears in the front of every copy of DVC. Numerous interviews with Dan Brown reveal that he genuinely believes it true.

If it wasn't for this, I could forgive DVC as a not-very-good bit of grailblazing vaguely thrillerish nonsense, and leave it at that. But that authors note leaves a large portion of his readership with the impression that the book contains a kernel of truth.

No it bloody well doesn't.

The Priory of Sion was a surrealist hoax cooked up in the 1950's by a couple of bored French aristocrats called Pierre Plantard and Phillippe de Cherisey. It has been conclusively proved that the Dossiers Secrets were written by de Cherisey, and in 1992 Pierre Plantard testified under oath before a French court that he had made the whole thing up. Pretty much the only people who have studied the facts and yet still believe a word of it are Dan Brown and two out of the three authors of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail - the same two who are, incidentally, suing Brown for plagarism. (The third author, Henry Lincoln - who did most of the actual research - has stated on the record that it was a major mistake and he no longer wants anything to do with it).

If he would remove that author's note, I could forget about it.

But he won't.

(look, I told you not to get me started...)

I consider anything that comes AFTER the title page in a novel part of the fiction...as is the case in DVC:

Acknowledgments
Title Page
"Facts"
Prologue

That is, of course, your perogative. And in this case eminently sensible.

Dan Brown disagrees with you, and so do a good proportion of his readers.

I read this book some time ago and while normally this is not the type of book I would read, I have to admit that I very much enjoyed it.

To me it was a novel, it was a fictional story about a theory that is out there and has been out there for some time. Last time I looked at the book, it was classified as fiction. What amazed me and made me wonder if there was not some truth in there, no matter how slight, was the fact that the vatican actually published a book to disprove this one. Now has this been written as a non-fiction book, I would have said, ok they have a reason, but to argue the merits of a fictional story to me says, hey guys go back and read it again, maybe there is some truth in there that they dont want us to find.

That's why the Da Vinci Code Debunked was written. Some people want to save fragile souls like you, sweetheart.

I'm on a roll!

A painting of the Madonna and Child by Raphael is found to contain cryptic messages which prove that Hitler was a direct descendant of Moses, and that his son, by Eve Braun, named Elvis Aaron, was found in a basket by an American GI called Presley, who smuggled him to Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis grew up to become a famous gay C&W singer, but suspicious minds have always maintained he had a daughter named after the famous painting.

Dan Brown (presumably no relation) does not have a working title for this project.

Any suggestions? :D

Winterknight, I have not come across many people who can bring this true information to light so fast.

You sir have gone up eleven rungs in my esteem. And that is no chicken fricassee! I usually award only one or two rungs per person in a decade.

Oh and they're children too! Adults reading Harry Potter, children/preteens/teens reading the Da Vinci code...

I got asked by one girl once "you don't think it's true?" (ie. the "truths" of the novel). She was so ridiculously serious...the Priory of Sion...yes...of course. I am a co-conspirator, of course.

It seems there is a backlash. Brown's fans have created their own website:

www.JustUnderstandBrown.com

Most people who have visited the JUB site say it's full of raving lunatics who post threads about sex!

What is the world coming to? :D

I read DVC december of 2004... Its a good book actually... although, i must say that it actually affected my faith for a few weeks...

](*,) Oh ](*,) My God. ](*,)

And another thing about these books is that what do they say about life, about society, about being human? Real books address those issues, not some hashish-induced conspiracy. Why did trees have to die for this waste?

Actually, the premise of the book came from another book called "Holy Blood,Holy Grail. The release of the movie has been delayed due to a plagiarism lawsuit. At any rate, it was an o.k. read in the "trashy novel"category :p :p :p :p :p

The plagiarism case being brought against Dan Brown in London has sparked renewed interest in the "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" (a 1982 bestseller as a work of non-fiction).

See: www.thebookstandard.com If you wan...g experience, the HBHG is the one for you. :D

T'wasn't much.

This isn't the first time I've typed that rant, as you may be able to tell.

Nobody took any notice of it before, though.
