The Dark Knight

I finally saw this movie Friday night and I'm just going to be honest in saying I was underwhelmed. Actually, both me and my friend were. The only part of the film I found really interesting was the Joker, but he sure went out with a whimper in the end. God that was anti-climatic. And on the way to that plateau of a point I damn near fell asleep. I was trying so hard to stay awake and keep up with the muddled plot, but by the time the Joker had left the screen for good I just didn't care any more. Two-Face's character did not intrigue me at all. I was astounded by how little interest I had in the whole thing by the time it was over.

The only things that stand out in my mind from the movie are Ledger's insane Joker performance, and about two cool action sequences that did just enough to keep my eyelids from getting heavy before the talky plot took center stage again. And when I say talky I mean TALKY.

Heath Ledger gave the ONLY notable performance in this movie. Christian Bale was a total snooze and his raspy Batman voice irritated the hell out of me. After the movie my friend said she couldn't even make out some of the stuff Bale was saying because he sounded like he had laryngitis. I agreed.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was no better than Katie Holmes as Rachel and got so little meaningful screen time that I found myself not giving a damn about her character, even when something major happened with her. Aaron Eckhardt was bland and even when he became Two-Face I was far from convinced. I'd have been fine if they'd left his character out of the movie entirely, which I wasn't expecting. No one else in the movie is even worth mentioning as they just played their roles very predictably and faded into the background as needed.

When the end of the movie came I was checking my watch and just waiting for all the melodramatic dialogue to end once and for all. I was disappointed that Two-Face sort of went out with a whimper too, but then, all his character did was whimper for the most part.

If you're not a Batman fan I say see it for the Joker when it's released on DVD or something, but be aware that there's a lot of dry, talky plot to trudge through, and you'll have to do it all while a loud, erratic and sometimes downright annoying musical score blares in your ears.

I honestly believe people have just fed into the hype with this movie. It wasn't bad but it was far from the masterpiece it's being hailed as in my opinion. I guess people are just too starved for great films these days.
I think you missed the entire point. It wasn't supposed to be some crappy all action story. It was supposed to have a real story, with a real plot and amazing characters. If you wanted all action, you should have gone to seen Wanted.

If you look at it in the mindset that it is an actual movie and not some action flick, you will see that it was amazing. I personally forgot all about time in the movie. Never once did it loose my attention because the story and the plot was amazing.

LOL I love how people make it seem like it's wrong for you to have a differing opinion. I realize I'm in the minority but one way or the other I was not impressed by this film. Just offering my views. And I don't need to see it again or look at it in a different way to see how "amazing" it is. Haha.
I am all for opinions. I might not agree with a lot of them, but keep going at it.

I never once bashed you, I just explained some things you mentioned. I never set out to change your opinion, but...um ok.

Actually I agree with you.

I saw the movie a few days ago and it was kind of a disappointment. The only reason it's getting so much praise and success is because of Heath's death.

There was nothing really that great about the movie aside from The Joker. I didn't really care for the story and the movie dragged on too long.

My favourite ever movie...the first in years I saw twice in the cinema.

A complex and thrilling ride that made the best interpretaion of Joker and Two-Face ever.

I loved the movie, I'm not a huge Batman fan & the B-Begins didn't really do much for me; but I was really impressed

It didn't at all feel like a comic book movie to me, so maybe thats why it appealed to me more, because I'm so used to a "superhero film standard"

And I'm no expert of a film critic than the rest of you, but I thought everyone did a great job...And Aaron E has one of the most perfect faces Lol

That fake voice is a trick he's been playing since "Batman begins".
He tries to disguise his actual voice like he does with the rest of her body, and that deep tone also makes him sound even more intimidating.

lol i didnt even notice the voice difference until i saw parts of Batman Begins on TV the week Damien Kyle came out. seems real organic to me

although this is the same joke for over and over 3 minutes, I thought it was pretty funny

Just came back for seeing it what an amazing film. Heath was superb as expected and what an amazing job Christopher Nolan did with the film. Great action, great tension, instant classic.

What else is there to say? The movie was near perfection, very few flaws, and if there were some, not worth bitching about. Every actor brought something to the table. The writers, producers, the directors of course, don't get enough credit but they're the backbone to movie making.

Re: The Dark Knight: Three new teaser posters

I look at it this way.

If they can change Rachel Dawes, they can change the Joker.

To be honest I still don't see Ledger doing the Joker justice.

Even the director said the biggest mistake the previous batman movies made were that they killed MAJOR villains... and that they didn't want to do that. Which is why we didn't 'See' Ra's die.

I'd be okay with the Joker being played by someone else in later instalments...

You're comparing a disposable one note character like Rachael Dawes to the most famous archenemy of Batman's as just as replaceable?

With all due respect...Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Krystal Skull should be the biggest box office winner this summer...Batman will definitely do good though..Im excited to see it.

And in NO WAY will Batman be the biggest movie of the year. No way at all. It will ride high on the first movie being pretty good and interest to see Heath Ledger's final on screen appearance. I predict it should make around $250 million.

~~~Bri~~~
Yeah I agree with you. Batman will do very well, but I highly doubt it will be the year's biggest movie. In fact, I know it won't. Not only do we have a new Indiana Jones movie coming out which is drumming up more interest than I ever expected, by the year's end we'll also have another Harry Potter movie. Both of these are movies the whole family can go see while Batman is the opposite.
In any case, I just hope The Dark Knight is better than Batman Begins which I found to be the most overrated film of 2005.
The Joker would say to this post...
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Oh I like reading old posts, hindsight is so fulfilling...
Re: The Dark Knight: Batman Returns Sequel [merged
I don't know if anyone will care, but I found these awesome fake posters (at least, I think they're fake), of the some proposed Batman sequel. In any case, it shows Kristen Bell as Harley Quinn, Marion Cotillard as Catwoman, and David Tennant as the Riddler. Frankly, I think the choices were spot on.
Re: The Dark Knight: Batman Returns Sequel [merged
^ those are interesting! i guess we'll see what comes to pass.
i saw tdk again tonight at imax.
loved it! again!
Re: The Dark Knight: Batman Returns Sequel [merged
Oh I would love to see it at imax--if I knew where the one here was located. people keep telling me but I can never remember. But, yeah, as soon as I saw Tennant as Riddler, I was like, "Yes! That's him exactly."
Re: The Dark Knight: Batman Returns Sequel [merged
Interesting choices but I have to say though that the catwoman costume is hideous.
Re: The Dark Knight: Batman Returns Sequel [merged
Definite fakes.
But I really want Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin as well as The Riddler in the next film.
Re: The Dark Knight: Batman Returns Sequel [merged
If I understand correctly they actually did consider having the penguin in the Dark Knight and asked Phillip Seymour Hoffman to play him but he turned it down.
The Dark Knight returns to theaters this January
Hit Batman movie "The Dark Knight " is to be re-released in U.S. cinemas in January.
The superhero film, starring Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, originally hit the big screen in July and has so far grossed more than $996 million worldwide.
And studio bosses have now revealed they plan to release the film once more across the U.S. on 23 January, a day after the announcement of this year's Oscar nominations.
The re-release should take the box office total past $1 billion, and Bale insists the success of the movie should guarantee an array of Academy Awards.
He says, "The serious contenders in this movie in my mind are Heath Ledger, Chris Nolan for director because he's done an extraordinary job, and I do believe Best Picture as well."
Re: The Dark Knight returns to theaters this Janua
WHY? The movie sucked the first time (in my opinion, of course). This is stupid and unnecessary. If they do that, then PUT MEAN GIRLS BACK IN THE FUCKING THEATERS.
Ok, that was gay. But I stand by it. Hmph.
