The Dark Knight

I should have stated and clarified this above, but I am not apologizing for discussing spoilers at this point. The movie is out and it's in theatres right now. If people are going to throw a fit about spoilers, then let me ask why are you even bothering reading a thread on Dark Knight online, and why isn't your ass in the theatre right now, if you want to see it so badly. If you have time to go online, and you are clicking on the thread at this point, you are just asking to see spoilers.

100% SPOILERS HERE

I was disappointed at first with the rushed Two Face too. I heard the original cut of the movie was three hours and I'd bet that a lot of what got cut was from the Two-Face portion.

However, his death leading to the outlaw Batman set up for the third movie is pitch perfect. And I am reminded that we saw Jim Gordon "die" earlier in the movie - so do we KNOW that Two Face is dead just because they said so?

On a side note: And I know I'm crazy but when Aaron Eckhart was lying in that hospital bed before he revealed his disfigurement. He was so vulnerable and sooo hot to me. I've never been more turned on by him.

Yeah, it's a safe assumption he's dead. They aren't going to have two characters in one movie fake their death. The majority consensus from all the boards I've visited today discussing it was that he was severely weakened from the explosion and the burn, and given his condition ... couldn't survive the fall off the building. He died, and then they did their best to pay tribute to him at the end, remembering only his work as DA, while shielding his villainous acts at the end.

They finally get the character right, then they blow the opportunity with him. Given what we saw out of him at the end, and the intensity between him and wanting to kill Gordon's family, Two Face could have easily carried the third film on his own. But, they blew it again.

I have to disagree with you on that. Two Face had to die to make that ending work. Didnt you listen at all. The monologue by Gordon at the end was such a perfect ending to the movie and explained the idea of Batman and the movie perfectly.

I've been reading (since I avoided spoilers like the plague before I saw it) and Nolan says there were only 10 minutes cut so I guess there's not a lot of Two Face cut out.

Since it was Harvey Dent who was the Hero of the piece, the Joker aside, the WHOLE movie was basically about Harvey Dent. His rise as the hero Gotham needed. So much so that Batman willingly took the fall for his crimes so that Gotham would still have their hero. I don't see it as a waste of the character.

Although it works perfectly that the character died at the end and sets up the outsider Batman for the next movie, I've read enough comic books to know that if they need him he can still come back. ;)

I don't know what else I can add that hasn't already been said but at the same time I am compelled to comment on the outstanding piece of work this movie proved to be. I was afraid the hype would be more than the movie could live up to and, particularly the hype generated by Ledger's death but not only does the movie's overall hype, as well as Ledger's Joker live up to expectations but completely supersedes anything I had imagined. I was blown away by Ironman earlier this summer but The Dark Knight has taken its place at #1. Probably the best superhero movie to date. If you have not seen, go now! Stand in line! Pay whatever.... you will not be disappointed! Then, go again to be sure you catch all the nuances.

Actually, Harvey Dent doesn't have to be dead. They could've simply thrown his ass in Arkham Asylum or the like and told the public that he died. If they kept Gordon's death a secret...

I completely agree. Like I said, they could have done so much more with him, had they given him more time. A little over 30 minutes for his Two Face personna really left me craving a lot more, which would have been perfect to carry over for the third film.

"The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

The new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight," raked in $66.4 million in its opening day to set the single-day box office record, according to its distributor Warner Bros.

The Friday tally bests the $59.8 million set by "Spider-Man 3" at its opening last year.

The film will likely break the opening weekend record of $151.1 million set by the Spider-Man movie, said Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros.

"The Dark Knight," which cost about $180 million to produce, also picked up a record $18.5 million in sales of tickets for preview screenings ahead of its official opening.

The Riddler seems to be in the lead as far as rumors go. Which Nolan would do a great job with him. He needs to take him in a different direction than Jim Carrey's version, and make him a darker character.

As to Two Face's face, anybody know how that was done? Was it makeup or CGI? It was amazingly disturbing!

Re: "The Dark Knight" sets new box-office records

yeah, i went and saw it, it was fucking amazing, im going to see it again tomorrow.

Jesus Fucking christ that was an excellent movie.

im going to see it again tomorrow, this is only the secong time ive seen a movie twice in theatres...the first being Titanic.

Before i saw the movie, i thought heath ledgers oscar nomination thing was really just cuz he died. but Heath Ledger gave an amazing performance, one of the best performances on screen ever imo.

Its a definatley Must See to anyone hesitant about going, was not disspointed with one thing during this movie, a flawless movie in my opinion.

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Did anyone notice how Gordon's daughter was never shown? That the son was chose as the one he loved the most? I really really thought Harvey should have killed Gordon's wife and son. It really would have set up Batgirl. She would always know Batman was a hero when no one else believes it. She would have lost her family to a maniac. And always remembered the brother was the chosen one. They missed the ball there. But I noticed his wife's name was Barbara. Wonder if they were holding to the comic and that's his niece taken in after her family died? That would explain why her name was also Barbara. I felt they kept her hidden on purpose. Christian Bail said he would quit the movies if Robin came into it but will they sneak Batgirl in? Hmmmmmmm.......

I hate to say this but I was waiting for some more bang. It's so built up that you are waiting for something that never comes. Wasn't something suppose to go on with Anthony Michael Hall's character? I thought he might become the Creeper but the names don't match up. I also thought the female detective was Renee Montoya but it wasn't. I did like it a lot but I was really waiting for something. Not sure what the something was but I really thought that surprise was coming.

And someone said something negative about the Watchmen preview or movie and than said they never read it. READ IT!!!! That movie is gonna kick ass!!!! The graphic novel is the father of all dark hero stories. It's what turned Batman from a campy book to the dark knight. I even see parts of sin city taken from watchmen. The whole darkness and grittiness of the cities and the complete hopelessness. The story is amazing. No other comic had such violence, adult content, and complex story. It really did turn comics into an adult industry.

Batgirl has less than zero chances to make her big screen debut as long as Christopher Nolan directs the Batman franchise.

I'm sure he isn't considering Robin to come aboard neither. He made it very clear from the beginning that his only interest was to fully develop the Batman character and the complex love and hate relation with Gotham City.

As for villains: It was SUPPOSED to be the genesis of Harley Quinn, with Heath Ledger reprising his role as the Joker and tormenting her into insanity. Like he does. But without a Joker, there can't really be a Harley.

Rumor mill waffles between Riddler, Catwoman, and sometimes, of all people the Ventriloquist/Scarface.

I dont mean to be rude but, Watchmen is going to rape this movie..|
:rotflmao: Oh God, I needed that laugh. Thank you.

The Watchman trailer makes the movie looks like nothing but a huge CG clusterfuck. Thanks for making me roll with laughter though. I was tired.

I think The Riddler holds the golden ticket to become Batman's nemesis in Chapter 3. In the state of confusion The Joker left Gotham City, he's the perfect villain to mess things up a little more.

It should be The Penguin, first, in my view ... but I think you are correct in that it will be The Riddler. Which as long as they go the way of the TAS version, we should be in for a good treat.

I loved Frank Gorshin, as he played the part brilliantly back in the day, but as far as his version, and Carrey's version, we need to differentiate the Riddler from the Joker.

John Glover's Riddler is the way to go.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who got a huge kick out of those comments stating Watchmen was going to "rape" Dark Knight. Give me a break. It won't come anywhere near close to bringing in what the Dark Knight will.

The Riddler would fit in, especially where they already planned to use a Joker knockoff anyway (not that Harley or Riddler are knockoffs; i just couldn't think of a better word).

Rumors tend to be equal between Anthony Michael Hall or David Tennant (SQUEE) as the Riddler and Kate Beckinsale as Catwoman.

I like that--to the outside world, Harvey remains a hero who died trying to keep Gotham safe, while in reality, he sits in Arkham sinking deeper into his rage and pain.

Riddler could work, also Bane in Nolan's hands would be awesome to behold. He's truly one of the best Bat villains to come along in the last 20 years. Although they couldn't use Harley Quinn as originally intended they could use her as a surrogate for the Joker. That would be better than recasting in my opinion.

I think a large part will have to be Batman vs Gotham City PD. Although he'll still have Gordon on his side (secretly) the official line of the police department will be to bring Batman in. With Batman having to fend off the police while dealing with the new villain it should be a great movie.

I was surprised that Two Face didn't kill Gordon's wife. She was killed in the comics so that could happen in the next one.

The ending works whether Two Face actually died or not. They could go either way.

Anthony Michael Hall's Character's name was Mike Engel - that doesn't sync with any known Batman villains that I can think of.

I'd be very surprised if Batgirl or Robin were to show up. I did notice that they played coy with his daughter but I think that they are just trying to leave that open for the future.
