Oh my Gosh

The guy that made me smell like beer when I happened to trust one of his fragances in that desert of civilized scents called China 2003-4.

Eddie did in 1:42 what many other guitars strive to do in a lifetime....

very sad news

I remember buying that tape back in the late '70s; I think it cost about $5 then

for me, and others might disagree, which is fine, Eddie Van Halen was the one who started the 80s Heavy Metal sound with that album

his guitar sound was so distinct, that one knew who was playing without even having to ask...for me, the same way when I hear a John Williams musical score

you just know who it is

Eddie Van Halen was the Mozart of Metal

Rip Eddie----enjoyed some of your music although wanking on a guitar is not usually my kind of rock---but you were talented ---wish you didn't chain smoke the way you did---you might have lived to be an old man.

^ ^ ^ ^ Right: at least he was a real musician, a good player... and produced the only sort of mainstream art music left after the takeover of pop.

most don't know but Eddie was the guitarist who made BEAT IT for Michael Jackson - you can hear Eddies signature sound / solo on the song at 3:10 - Eddie was a very liberal guy - one of the good guys...

Monica Roberts, beloved trans activist from Houston.

I'm sorry this story is behind a paywall, since I'm an online Chronicle subscriber. You can see the photo. But Monica was an airline employee when she transitioned, and said her life afterwards could not compare to her life before. She met notable people and advocated for others, and was voted Best Activist by Out & About readers.

Cause of death is private.

Monica Roberts was found dead in a west Houston apartment parking lot, and it was considered she was a victim of a hit-and-run. This was found to be not so. Her death was from a medical emergency, perhaps linked to COVID-19, her family reports. Blood clots were found in her lungs, reported the medical examiner.
