I thought Lynda Baron looked familiar. She played Capt Wrack in the Dr Who episode Enlightenment. Way back when. The Peter Davison years.

Back in the 70's and 80's they really produced some fine quality baked goods. My Mom would have her church lady friends over and they would gossip and devour a coffee cake and a large raspberry danish. I can remember rolling them to their cars. :)

Nowadays Bimbo Bakeries has let the quality go downhill in my opinion. It feels more like a Little Debbie operation now only higher prices.

R.I.P.

^ They've probably gone the JAW method just like all the others: Just Add Water.

Their stuff started appearing in the UK years and years ago (probably mid to late nineties when I first noticed them in Sainsbury's). I used to buy a yellow sponge traybake topped with a thick layer of fudgy icing (not the chocolatey fudge kind; more like the toffee-fudge kind). It was bloody delicious. You'd be forgiven for assuming it would be sickly, cloyingly sweet from the way it looked but it strangely wasn't.

I have never been able to find it anywhere since; neither in the shops nor online... I'm beginning to wonder whether it was all an elaborate dream, a la Dallas..

^ Emilio was an extremely rare Latino presence on television screens back then. Rest peacefully.

I’m adding Phil Collins to my list.
