Mark Shields, political analyst on CNN and PBS 'NewsHour,' dies at 85 [CNN]
Mark Shields, the political sage and longtime analyst for CNN and PBS, died Saturday morning at the age of 85, the anchor of PBS NewsHour confirmed.
Shields was well known for his "encyclopedic knowledge of American politics, his sense of humor and mainly his big heart," wrote Judy Woodruff, the anchor and managing editor of NewsHour, in a tweet announcing his death.

Shields was a liberal political commentator on the broadcast for 33 years, through six presidential administrations, until he decided to retire in 2020.

He was also was a regular presence on CNN for decades, primarily as co-host of the weekly panel discussion show "Capital Gang" from 1988 until 2005, where he challenged conservative co-hosts like Robert Novak, Pat Buchanan and Kate O'Beirne.

I was just reading his Guardian obituary. This passage made me laugh:

"He also reported on other sports and thought he had secured an exclusive interview in 1974 after hurrying to Leeds United football club’s Elland Road ground and arriving as Brian Clough was leaving the boardroom after being sacked as manager. He made the mistake of asking Clough: “Brian, can you give me two words for Radio Leeds?”"

Mara was in Saint Sinner, which four of us watched during an xtc hangover.

She's one of the two demon escape-ettes.

Movie was worse than the hangovers.
