You are so lucky though to have shared so many years together as companions..........we lost our last two as a result of strokes and it is impossible to see them coming, it seems.

Samwise was a lovely cat...I remember the pics.

There was no hint that it was going to happen. Her favourite spot to sleep was beneath a large armchair. From where I sit on the sofa across the room, I can easily see her either crawling under the chair or crawling back out. Last night, I saw her crawl out and start walking to the water dish just over a metre away when she suddenly just collapsed on her belly and literally started 'screaming'. I got to her as fast as I could, but I couldn't pick her up without falling. I called my roommate and he picked her up and cradled her in his arms as he sat down on the sofa. She had stopped howling as soon as she was picked up but was otherwise completely unresponsive. We both knew that she was dying.

An hour later, I watched her take her last breath.

I've never seen a person have a stroke, but I would guess the symptoms would be very similar.

Last Wednesday I asked the lady who gives Hebrew lessons in church if "a year from Shevoat (Sjavoez?)" that Harold mentiones at the end of the play/movie means something special to Jews (such as the expression "With the Greek Calendae", which means "never"), but she didn't know.

So sad to see this generation go.

I was thinking it must have been one helluva bus crash or orgy.
