What's going on with all these Roman Catholic Prelates? They're dropping like flies. I keep up with the daily perch fallers through the Wikideaths listings and there seem to be more RC Prelates than any other profession. There have been seven so far this month. Am I imagining it or is it a dangerous job?

Think about the role.

A prelate is a high ranking clergyman of an old order denomination, so an establishment institution with leaders who are chiefly proponents of the status quo. So, almost by definition, you must be a senior to achieve the rank, which means the holders of the office are automatically in a category with a high death rate.

It's also because most Protestant denominations (outside Anglicanism) do not use the term at all, and are by-and-large, not hierarchical. The LDS is, but they are proud of not having paid clergy, so their bishops do not really resemble Christendom's.

In fairness to the Catholic use of the Latin term, the early church and the writers of the New Testament certainly placed a premium on the wisdom of elders, so they have held onto that value these 20 centuries, and it is a global standard found in most cultures and faiths.
