In American parlance, "cow" has two meanings. The entire species is most often referred to as "cows" synonymous to "cattle". When making distinctions of sex or gender, THEN the term may be applied to mean female, as opposed to bull or steer.

The implication of inaccuracy is akin to faulting a diner for asking for a vegetable when the botanical description would be fruit. It's semantic.

I love it when people say "it's [just] semantic/it's just semantics", as if semantic distinctions were secondary, minor trifles: as if the distinction between "juice" and "wine" were "just semantics"... which certainly IS... just not "just"
