The Death List 2025

The coroner's report suggests that Hackman's wife died about a week before he did.

They buried the lede on that one. Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome is caused by exposure to rodent droppings and urine. It carries a very high mortality- with up to half of the people infected dying of pneumonia or hemorrhage. Fortunately, it's not transmissible from human to human.

In New Mexico, both Hantavirus and Bubonic Plague are known risks. Residents are warned to never clean out a shed or other dusty, shaded space without a breathing apparatus, or mask, and preferably with sunlight which affects the virus.

Likewise, we were warned not to sleep on the ground directly when camping due to increased risk of exposure to mouse feces and urine.

There is a bit of a wake-up call here for aging people without close family ties with others. Or anyone for that matter.

Wellness checks are critical.

In this case the company monitoring Hackman really seemed to have failed as well, but it is too easy for more isolated elderly to die needlessly because they had no one personally following them.

This case resurrects three other tragic unnoticed deaths of friends or acquaintances over the years. So terribly sad.

it is too easy for more isolated elderly to die needlessly because they had no one personally following them.

On the other hand, what is Hackman missing? His wife of decades just died. He was too oblivious (most likey) to recognize it, or deal with it.

What good life is he missing now?

He was 95 and in the final stages of Alzheimers Disease. From all the indications, it was time for him to go.

I share that not to be morbid, but to be honest. We spend TOO much focus and energy supposing that life should last as long as possible instead of as long as beneficial.

Society needs to be less averse to dying when life is over for all purposes. We even do it when we contemplate the death penalty. The implication that electrocution "hurts" or that injection may take 20 minutes is amplified via some contorted logic to be inhuman suffering. Anyone getting the death penalty has already inflicted far worse, so experiencing it in some SMALL degree is not cruel, but justice.

True, Hackman may have lain a week in pain if he fell soon after (or before) his wife's demise, but the other side of that coin is he may have been rushed off to some hospital and then a nursing home to be kept in some twilight for weeks, months, or even years.

If given that choice, I'll take the one week in physical pain every time.

Another US Congressperson has died- the second in two weeks.

Rep. Raúl Grijalva [D-AZ], age 77, of complications of treatment for cancer. In April 2024, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Grijalva, the son of Mexican immigrants, spent over half his life in public service.

Arizona Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva has died, according to his congressional office. He was 77.

The congressman died Thursday morning due to complications from cancer treatments, the office said. In April 2024, Grijalva announced he had been diagnosed with cancer and begun treatment. The diagnosis, he said at the time, was “difficult to process.”

“Rep. Grijalva fought a long and brave battle,” the congressman’s office said.

The Russian flu?
Well, both congressmen who have died this month had histories of cancer. And they were old as dirt. Why waste good polonium when the person has one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel?

Rep Grijalva did step down as the chair of his committee but if you have cancer, you are undergoing chemo, the last place you want to be in on airplanes, in crowded meeting rooms or shaking hands all day.

The other man who died, Sylvester Turner [D-TX] was previously a member of the the Texas House for a quarter of a century, then he was mayor of Houston while undergoing chemo at age 68. He ran for the US House at age 70. Probably not the wisest decision for him or the voters in his Texas district. to run at his age and with his health conditions.

One would think that getting elected to the nation's highest legislature would inherently align with age to a degree due to the time it takes to accrue skill and wealth and power to outcompete others in the same races.

So, deaths in that skewed population would be routine, even with their increased life expectancies from wealth and business connections with the Prince of Darkness.

Another one of the Senate's great leaders... a man who makes us realize how small and petty many of today's Senators seem. Alan Simpson, former Republican Senator from Wyoming, aged 93, of complications following hip replacement surgery.

Former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson, a political legend whose quick wit bridged partisan gaps in the years before today’s political acrimony, has died. He was 93.

Simpson died early Friday after struggling to recover from a broken hip in December, according to a statement from his family and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, a group of museums where he was a board member for 56 years...

Former President George W. Bush called Simpson “one of the finest public servants ever to have graced our nation’s capital.”

Some Alan Simpson quotes:

"If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity, nothing else matters."

"Any education that matters is liberal."

“We have two political parties in this country, the Stupid Party and the Evil Party. I belong to the Stupid Party,”

"There is no 'slippery slope' toward loss of liberty, only a long staircase where each step down must first be tolerated by the American people and their leaders."
