I just finished watching it...it was good. I thought Leo and Matt were great.

Don't really understand how Jack and Mark got Golden Globe nominations...then again...so did Beyonce so...

Anyway, what did you guys think of it? I'm not the biggest fan of mob type movies but I enjoyed it.

I'm not a big fan of action or gangster movies either but I really enjoyed the movie too.

sun I agree with you on Jack who I thought was awful in an scene chewing kind of way but I thought Mark did the best acting in the movie.

Nicholson plays the character in a non-typical way for a gangster movie. He's deranged, OTT, and unpredictable and it keeps you on your toes. It would make a change from someone like DeNiro playing him as calm and methodical.

I would like to see Leo, Jack and Mark W nominated at the Oscars, but I dont think they will.

I loved it!!!! Can't understand for the life of me how Marky Marky got nominated because he's only played that same exact character... himself... in about a hundred other movies. The Boston accents were a bit exaggerated too but the storyline was great.

I loved it as well. I have to agree with Falconfan about the accents though, they were very much over the top. I thought being from Boston Mark and Matt would know not to over do it but outside of that it was an amazing movie. I thought Leo was the stand out actor in the film...|

Good cast, good music, good story,... "so so" directing, very bad film editing and awful ending, compared to "Infernal Affairs"...

I prefer the original movie.

Its unusual for someone to refer to the "film editing". What was so bad about it?

Yes, the film was a remake, but it was different enough to be considered its own film. Its a pity people cant watch things impartially.

I liked the movie but I didn't think it was "GREAT." I did think Leonardo Dicaprio was good and will definitely get nominated.

I must say I was a little disappointed with the ending. It was just too much of an ending. Why not have just one big twist instead of so many small ones.

I definitely thought Babel was a much better movie.

If I had not seen "Infernal Affairs", maybe... but the original movie is really better than this one (imho of course...). I think I can judge impartially because I saw both of the movies. The US movie is not so different from the original, but that's not the problem (almost every remake, even the useless ones like this one, is a personnal interpretation of the original movie, with some differences, and that's ok).

The problem is just that I can't sing praises to M. Scorsese just because he is M. Scorsese. His movie is good, but not that good, and can't be compared with his precedent masterpieces, whatever the critics have said about it.

About the "film editing" (I hope I used the right expression) I found the first part of the film very messy and "over cut" (once again, I don't know if I explain correctly my feeling... my english vocabulary is limited). When i saw it, my first reaction's been "What the hell is going on, here ?"... and that bad feeling's been in my mind still the end... the awful end... The beginning is messy, the movie is too long, the end is crappy... but LDC, MD, JN, MW are great, and the irish music is good for my ears...

My best memories about this movie are Mark Wahlberg's lines, and the plunging view on Leo's crack, in the jail... that's enough for me...:D

Just because it's not typical doesn't mean it's "messy" It's a different style and I liked the end mainly because I hated it (I'm sure those who saw it know what I mean) and if you can get that kinda effect you've made a good movie.

I can't stand the end because it's stupid. The end of the original was very open and deliciously immoral. This one is just stupid. That's the effect they've created.

Even if they thought it was too complicated to make a sequel, they didn't have to do that (I gonna stop now : I hate spoilers)

You keep refering to the original but I was unaware this wasn't based on anything perhaps that's the key difference here. But I felt the end was appropriate not like the last 2 min that I wasn't a fan of but I'd say like the 10 min as a whole I liked. And may I ask WTF is Sheen's nod for supporting actor? His character took much more to portray then marky's one dimensional two liner

I heard they smashed the three Infernal Affairs films into some convoluted and simplified version in The Departed. I loved IA I and II, but I haven't seen III (or IV which exists apparently) and I haven't seen The Departed yet.

WHAT?! Sheen got a nod?! LMFAO. He didn't even do anything.

No he didn't. I was saying his part was as big as marky marky's... probably bigger... and if walhberg got a nod he certaintly should have but then again I don't think either of them should've

coco2006, yeah, Infernal Affairs was much better. I watched it when it came out in Hong Kong and it cuased quite a stir. I think everyone should watch the original and see how it compares. You'll be surprised how well written and acted it is. :)

I didn't watch the 2 and 3... I read everywhere they are awful, so I want to keep the good impression I have about the 1.

The Departed is not that bad... there are good things inside... but nothing unforgettable (unless, as I said, the too short plunging view on Leo's crack...)

IA II is about when they were young. So I don't think it was awful at all. It's all backstory.
