i've finally come out of my writer's block to bring u a new story inspired by my love for theatre (i sing, act, and dance) and my new crush on broadway star, Cheyenne Jackson. this too is written in 1st person but is in no way true. check out my gallery for characters each chapter.
I quickly gathered my bag and rushed off the bus. As I put my foot on the sidewalk, I felt like Neil Armstrong discovering the moon. It was my first time there and I didn’t plan on leaving. I just left high school about 12 hours ago and I was ready to start my life.
The city was like a step into the future for me. With every step I took, I saw something I had never seen before. It was a city full of freaks and I finally felt I didn’t need to impress anyone.
As I started to get tired, I stopped at a diner on Broadway. I had always wanted to be in a musical there and I just had to see the theatres. I sat at the bar and put my bag in the seat next to me. I looked around for a waitress and didn’t see anyone.
Suddenly, I heard a woman yelling behind me, “You know what? If you don’t like the burger, go to Macdonald’s, go to Wendy’s, go to Texas for all I care. Just get the fuck out of my diner!”
As she walked back to the bar, I was afraid but she saw me before I could leave, “Can I help you?”
She suddenly had a smile on her face as if she forgot about everything.
I stuttered for a second, “Uhm…I was just wanting a soda, but…”
“Coming right up,” she went to the soda fountain and poured me a drink, “So, where are you from?”
“The South,” I said as she put the drink on the counter, “but I’m looking for a place up here.”
She looked at me as if she just had a brilliant idea, “I have a room for rent upstairs! It’s yours if you want it… all you have to do is help me out with the diner and put up with my mess. Other than that, the rent is free.”
I couldn’t think of a reason to say no, so after she closed, she showed me to my room. It was a little small but I got a perfect view of Broadway. She showed me the living room and the kitchen; it looked exactly how I pictured a shared apartment would look. There was a futon with a would-framed TV across from it and a table covered in magazines and leftover food. It was awesome!
“So, make yourself at home,” she said, “By the way, I’m Bridget. I don’t think I asked your name yet.”
“Oh, my name’s Kevin,” I shook her hand.
After I unpacked, I walked into the kitchen where there was already a plate waiting for me. She looked up and smiled as I came in.
“I made some dinner,” she said.
“Thanks, you didn’t have to though,” I was trying to be polite.
She smiled, “Don’t worry, it’s hamburger helper. Sit down; I want to get to know you.”
“Ok,” I took seat across from her, “What all do you wanna know?”
“Just the basics, you know… so I can make sure you’re not a psycho who killed his family and skipped town.”
“Oh, well actually, they’re the psychos,” we smiled, “I guess I just wanted to try my luck in the city. There’s just so much more out there than where I come from.”
“So, did you leave a girl back home?”
“Not exactly…” I paused.
“Oh, so you’re looking for a girl?”
I hesitated, “Well, I’m gay, so not really.”
“Oh, thank god,” she was relieved, “that takes a lot of awkwardness out of the situation. I was sure you were straight though, I mean you don’t come across as…”
“A fairy? Yea, I’m not that kind of gay…I just connect with men better than I do with women,” I said, “Not to say that I don’t think you’re cute or anything. I mean, I still find women attractive and all.”
“Thanks,” she laughed, “I think that makes you bi, though.”
“Who knows?” I said, “I’m still trying to figure it out myself.”
After we finished our beefaroni, we cleaned up and went to bed. The next morning felt like freedom. I felt like I was no longer a kid and was ready to become an adult. I met Bridget downstairs in the diner and started washing the windows before we opened. She turned on the radio and started sweeping. As she danced with her broom and I shook my head to the music, I heard a crowd across the street. I realized that they were all lining up for some guy’s autograph. I kept looking until he finally turned around. He was gorgeous and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.
“Who is that?” I asked Bridget.
She looked out the window, “Oh, that’s Buddy Walsh… he’s like Broadway fame.”
As he finished signing autographs and went inside the theatre, I snapped out of my daze. It was the first New York eye candy I had seen yet.

			Chapter 1
By the time the bus stopped, I was asleep and didn’t realize where I was for a second. As I woke up, I looked around to see thousands of buildings, traffic everywhere and more people than I had ever met. I was in New York.I quickly gathered my bag and rushed off the bus. As I put my foot on the sidewalk, I felt like Neil Armstrong discovering the moon. It was my first time there and I didn’t plan on leaving. Follow your dreams, dude. I should have kept up my music instead of letting my parents rule out music as a potential career for me. I wish you the best. xx
