The Diner on Broadway

its very short but i havent had alot of time lately...i'll try to do another chapter tomorrow

Chapter 11
It was a long rehearsal and all i wanted to do was hit the sack. As i walked through the door, i saw him lying on the bed in his gym shorts. I took off my coat and lied right on his chest.
He suddenly woke up, "Hey, i didnt hear you come in...give me a second and I'll get dressed."
"No, let's just stay in tonight," i stopped him.
He lied back on the pillow, "Ok... so, how was rehearsal?"
"It was alright... but i think i need a break," i shut my eyes, "I want a vacation."
"Well where do you wanna go?"
I smiled, "Anywhere but here...i need a change of scenery!"
"I think i know a place."
The next morning, I had called in and gotten the week off. We packed our bags and headed out of the city.
I just stared out the window for miles, looking at the small towns and fields. It felt like back home. As it got darker, i lied my head in his lap and fell asleep. He ran his hand down my arm and turned on the radio. It felt good to leave behind the stress of the city.
I woke up next to him in a small hotel room the next morning. I didnt even remember stopping. I got cleaned up and changed clothes.
"Good morning," i whispered in his ear.
He squeezed the pillow closer, "Just five more minutes..."
"Come on," i grabbed his arm.
"Ok," he groaned as he got out of the bed.
As we got back on the interstate, i turned on the radio and rolled down the window, "So, when are you gonna tell me where we're going?"
"When we get there..."
"When are we gonna get there?"
He smiled, "Soon."

i swear ill do another chapter as soon as i get a chance....im heartbroken, i just heard xanadu is closing this month before i even got a chance to see it!!!!

Chapter 12
As the car parked, i waited patiently for him to come help me out. He blind-folded me so i couldnt see where we were.
He held my hand as we started walking, "Ok, just a few more steps."
I could hear the snow crunching under my feet, "Where are we?"
He took off the blind-fold, "Welcome to Vermont."
I stared out at mountains after mountains, "Oh my god."
He wrapped his arms around me from behind, "I got us a cabin for the week."
As I walked around, checking out the cabin, he sat on the couch and turned on the TV.
I strattled his lap before he could even get a chance to see what was on, "Don't even think you're gonna be watching tv."
He turned me on my back and started kissing me, "What was i thinking?"
We went skiing most of the day and walked downtown to check out some shops. By the time we caught a cab back to the cabin, it was already night.
I put on this sexy vintage swimsuit he got me from aussiebum and warmed up the hot tub. He got in with me and we started kissing under the stars. We were getting hot without any help from the jacuzzi. It started to snow and we went inside.
As i dried off, he turned on a Christmas movie. He made himself comfortable on this really big fur blanket on the floor. I put on my pajamas and lied on top of him.
"Did i tell you how much i appreciate this?"
"Well think of it as a Christmas gift," he kissed me.
We fell asleep in the candle-lit living room while the Christmas movie played on.

alright, this next chapter might be a little too cheesy but i've gotten in the holiday mood early this year...

Chapter 13
As he lied, sleeping under the thick soft sheets, I kissed him softly on the lips and got out of bed without waking him. I put on my pajama pants and bundled up in his sweatshirt before i sat on the balcony.

I grasped the hot cocoa mug and took a sip. The sun started rising over the mountian and slowly, i started feeling warmer. I realized it was the last day before we left so i took in every detail to remember when we got home.

I felt him sit next to me and i leaned back on his chest as he wrapped his tight arms around me.

He kissed me on the neck, "Good Morning."

"Merry Christmas," i said.

"So what did you get me?" he smiled.

"You'll figure out tonite," I teased.

He slid his finger down the side of my neck and whispered, "...my gift is better!"

"Yea, ok," I said competitively, "let's just see who's smiling tonite."

"Oh, well since you put it that way, maybe you do have the better gift," he laughed.

I rolled my eyes, "Dream on, old man!"

As the cab dropped us off in the town square, we kissed and then walked seperate ways. I searched shop after shop before i finally found the perfect gift. I rushed back to the cabin to hide it. I found an extra closet that i don't think he had noticed yet. As i started toward the bedroom, he suddenly came out and closed the door behind him.

"Why you look so suspicious?" i smiled.

He looked down at me, blocking me from getting in, "Why do you need to get into the room?"

I slowly moved my face toward his, as i closed my eyes. He wrapped his hands around me and right before we kissed, i reached for the doorknob.

He pulled me away before i could open the door, "You sneaky devil."

I laughed as he carried me to the den, "The battle's not over."

He let me down and kissed me, "Oh, it's just begun."

We left the cabin and went to this really nice restaurant for a Christmas dinner and afterwards, we watched the Christmas tree lighting in the town square. It was my first good Christmas in a while. I hugged him and rested my head on his chest while we slowly moved to the sounds of the christmas carolers singing. He softly sung in my ear to the songs. I smiled as it started to snow.

As we got back to the cabin, i hurried to the closet and back to the den.

"Ok, close your eyes," i entered the den.

He shut his eyes, "The suspense is killing me!"

"Don't be a smart ass," i laughed, "Ok, open!"

I sat next to him on the couch and held a book in front of him.

He opened the leather-bound journal to read an inscription i had written, '5,000 pages at the exposure of you're beautiful mind... love kevin.'

"You've been talking about writing your memoirs and i wanted to help you get started," i smiled.

He seemed to really appreciate it, "You never cease to amaze me... I can't believe you even remembered i mentioned it."

"It's just a journal... No need to get all sentimental," i said.

"Well it might sound cheesy but it was the thought that counts and you were completely thinking of me when you bought it," he kissed me, "Ok now it's my turn. Close your eyes!"

I shut my eyes as he went for the gift, "Hurry!"

"OK, open!" he shouted.

I opened my eyes to be staring into the biggest, sweetest eyes of a small puppy, "What the... Ok, you win!"

"Well, it's for both of us. But, i'll give you the honor of naming it," he sat next to me.

We watched Christmas movies all night and fell asleep together on the couch. I felt like we were a family as i cuddled them both close to me... plus, kids are too annoying so i preferred the puppy.

The entire drive home the next day, I was playing with the puppy.

Buddy looked over at me, "So did you decide a name yet?"

"How about... Little Buddy?" he smirked as i kissed him on the cheek.

Chapter 14
As we arrived back in the city, we hit the ground running. We both went to work the next day but i felt refreshed and at the top of my game.

It was 2 weeks before opening night and my costar had broken his leg while rock climbing. The producers were frantic and stressed. So, that morning, the understudy, Ben Dempsey came in. He had alot to learn in two weeks and it was pretty much up to the cast to help him. His character was supposed to be a traveling conman who came to town and introduced my character to all kinds of debauchery and Megan's character is the beautiful Sunday school teacher that brings me back to christianity.

As soon as he walked in, we started rehearsal from the very top. It was long days of non-stop work... i guess it was good that we took that vacation.

Megan and I took a break and went out for lunch.

"So what did you name him?"

"Little Buddy," i smiled.

She laughed, "Oh, that's cute."

I was caught by surprise as Ben walked up to us, "Hey, sorry i was stuck in wardrobe."

"Oh hey," she pulled out a chair for him, "I hope you don't mind but i invited him."

"Yea, I don't mind," i smiled.

He was kinda cute in a goofball way. The entire time, we talked about anything but the production. There was a little bit of an awkward silence though when Megan excused herself to go to the bathroom.

I looked at him, "So.... how are you coming along so far?"

"I'm making progress... but scared out of my mind," he laughed out of nervousness.

I smiled, "Don't worry; it'll come together... But if you want, we can go over some lines together some time.

"Yea that would be cool," he seemed relieved, "Thanks."

Later that night, as Buddy got dressed to go to an interview, i watched him from the bed as he looked in the mirror.

"You nervous?" i asked.

"Nah," he was lost in his reflection.

"Because it's completely ok to be nervous," I stood up and walked toward him.

He looked at me, "I'm fine though."

I hugged him with my hands reaching under his blazer, "Look at you being so brave."

He laughed, "Give me a break. This is like my 5th time to be on this show."

I smiled, "I know. I'm just giving you a hard time."

He wrapped his arms around me, "Will you stay up for me?"

"Of course," I kissed him gently on the lips.

As he left, i waited patiently for Ben to show up. About 15 minutes after i expected him, i heard a knock at the door as little Buddy went crazy. I only had him for a week and i had already turned him into a badass guard puppy. He was sweet and gentle when Buddy and I held him but when anyone else came around, he was miniature kujo.

I opened the door, "Hey, come on in."

"Thanks," he walked in, "Sorry I'm late. It was hell trying to find a cab."

"Don't worry about it. You ready to get started?"

After about 2 hours of rehearsing, i turned on the tv to see the interview and we took a break.

"So what about that article that came out a few months ago?" the host asked, "I mean i've heard of singers shacking up with their backup dancers, but this is the first time i've heard of a 35 year old man shacking up with an 18 year old MALE backup dancer. That must've taken alot of courage to face the crowd."

He smiled, "Well we definitely learned who our friends are. And what can i say? I'm crazy about the kid..."

Ben looked at me, "So, he doesn't mind me being over here?"

"No, he trusts me," I said, "Besides, he knows you're straight."

He looked away, "Actually...I haven't told anyone yet."

I was kinda shocked, "You're gay?"

"Well, i don't know... I've been in the closet so long, how can i be sure?" he felt embarassed, "Please don't tell anyone."

"I would never," i assured him.

"I guess i just needed someone that i can trust with it... I don't know very many that are out."

"Well don't stress about it," I said, "You can talk to me anytime. I don't have many guy friends myself."

After we talked a little while, he left and I waited for Buddy.

I fell asleep on the couch as he came in. He took off his coat and kissed me on the lips. I rested my head on his warm, soft chest as he carried me to bed. He got in his boxers and lied down next to me.

I put my head back on his bare chest and softly dragged my finger tip up his abs, "I saw you."

He smiled, "To tell you the truth, I WAS a little nervous."

I laughed. As I fell asleep, he kissed me goodnight.

Chapter 15
I was already 20 minutes late for rehearsal. As I grabbed my coat and swung open the door, suddenly everything stopped.
I dropped my stuff and looked in his eyes. He still had his hand raised, ready to knock on the door. I swung my arms around him and he wrapped his around me. As I rested my head on his shoulder, I tried not to but I couldn't help to let out a tear.
The first time i met Adam Hewitt, I was four years old. He was about 16.
My mom told me numerous times not to go into the woods behind our house because I could get lost or bitten by a snake. I never really listened though. I was always looking for an adventure. So I decided to put on my sneakers and see how far i could get. There were so many turns and of course, i got lost.
I sat next to a tree and waited for someone to come along like they told us to in that assembly at school. After about an hour, I started to cry. It was almost dark and all I could think about is when I saw a little of that horror movie that took place in the woods.
Then, he came running down the trail as if he was a guardian angel or something. He was in gym shorts and a wife-beater, conditioning for soccer.
He slowed down and stopped right in front of me as he saw me cry, "Hey... are you lost?"
I just shook my head.
"Here," he got on his knee, "come with me and we'll figure out where you live."
At first, I thought I shouldn't because he was a stranger but I was scared and I didn't want to be alone. I wrapped my arms tightly around his neck and he carried me down the trail. I felt the sweat drip down his neck as I laid my head on his shoulder but I didn't care. I suddenly felt safe.
"Shh...I'm right here," he constantly whispered in my ear as i continued to cry.
As he walked up the steps to my house, my mom was waiting for me on the porch. I don't remember what she said but she walked him to my room and he laid me down in my bed. As he left my room, he turned back and looked in my eyes.
I lied in bed, about to fall asleep as my mom stood outside my room with Adam, "I really don't know how I can thank you."
"Don't worry about it. It was just the right thing to do."
The next night was my mom and dad's date night. They were in a panic as my babysitter canceled at the last minute. Just as they were about to cancel their reservation, Adam came by to make sure i was ok.
"Oh, you're too kind," my mother was grateful.
He smiled, "It's fine. I live just a few houses down."
"Oh well that's good to know."
My dad was about to go crazy, "If we cancel these reservations, it'll be hell to ever try and get them again."
"Oh, i'm sorry. I didn't know you guys were going out..."
"Well we were but our babysitter cancelled on us again," my dad was pissed.
My mom shook her head, "I tell you, that girl is the least dependable person i have ever met."
"I don't mind... I mean if you guys don't wanna cancel, i don't mind staying for a few hours," he was so polite.
"No you really don't have to."
"I really don't mind," he convinced her.
So, my mom walked him through the phone numbers, the alarm system, and what i was and wasn't allowed to eat, drink, play and watch on tv.
I cuddled up to the arm rest of the couch. I kept glancing back and forth from the tv to him at the other end of the couch, eating a bowl of popcorn. He looked at me and i suddenly looked away.
He pushed the bowl closer to me, "Don't worry. I won't tell if you won't."
As he looked away, i quickly grabbed a peice and put it in my mouth. He smiled at me and took another handfull.
As i started to drift to sleep, I cuddled up to him on the couch. I was out cold; i didn't even remember him tucking me in after the movie ended.
Every Friday night after that, while my parents had date night, he came over and we had movie/game night. He went to all my birthdays and I went to all his games. We had all kinds of fun, going on road trips and hanging out together. He was like my older brother.
When I was 13, he enlisted in the army. At first, i was angry that he was leaving but he was my hero and i looked up to him, no matter what he did.
I sat on my bed and looked out the window. He stood in the doorway for a second before sitting down beside me.
"What's on your mind?" he asked.
I pulled my attention from the window to him, "Nothing... just thinking about school."
"Are you okay with me going?"
I lied, "I want you to... They need you over there."
"I'll be back before you know it."
Later that night, i sat in my room, listening to the music coming from his house. He was having a going away party with a bunch of his college buddies. My mom didn't let me go because she knew there was gonna be drinking.
I suddenly realized for the first time that he was gonna be gone for a long time. I snuck out my window and ran to his house. I squeezed through the crowd of people, trying to find him.
I heard a few people talking, saying that they didn't think he'd come back. I wanted to cry but instead, i found a corner and started drinking from the red plastic cups. After a while, i started to get dizzy and i sat on the couch.
I was just about to pass out when he found me. He carried me to his room and laid me on his bed while he went downstairs to tell his guests goodbye. I slept for about an hour but when i woke up, i was a bit more sober.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I don't know."
"Well why are you drinking?"
I started to cry, "Don't go!"
He sat next to me, "I thought you were ok about this."
"I lied. You're my best friend... my only real friend."
He put my head on his shoulder and let me cry, "I'll come back for you."
He laid me down and he laid next to me. I snuggled my head to his warm chest. I cried all night but he wiped my tears away.
When the sun rose, he woke me up to say goodbye. I sat up as he kneeled down next to me.
"I want you to have this for right now," he gave me his jacket, "that way, you'll know I'm close."
He hugged me and i lingered for a while. As i let go, he gently kissed me on the lips and then on my forehead.
That was the last i saw him. A few weeks later, i started high school and not too long after that, my dad started touching me. The entire time, I wished i had someone there to talk to.
Then, during my junior year, his parents called and told us he was MIA. I cried for days. I just laid in bed, wearing his jacket. It still smelled like his cologne. I could almost feel him there.
So, i stood in the doorway, hugging someone i hadn't seen in over 5 years.
"Shh, i'm right here," he whispered.
I smiled.

Oh wow. Didn't see this one coming at all. Like the new turn though. Maybe Adam can be mine. ;-)

Chapter 16
"Are you okay?" Ben was struggling to keep my attention.
"What?" I snapped back to reality, "I'm fine... I've just got alot of things on my mind right now."
"You just need to relax," he gently placed his hand on my knee.
I subtly brushed his hand away, "I think we should just go through the scene again."
I sat in his dressing room, helping him with his lines. I was barely making it through the day without getting side tracked.
Later, I met Buddy for lunch at the diner. He sat across from me and ordered us some drinks.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asked.
I was getting annoyed by that question, "I'm fine... something wierd happened this morning."
"Yea?" he was curious.
"Did I ever tell you about my friend, Adam?"
"The guy who went MIA? Yea," he was interested.
"He showed up this morning. I didn't even know they found him."
He put his hand on mine, "That's great... well, what's the problem?"
"He's like my best friend. I love him... not the way I love you. It's just that he helped me get through being a kid. I just wanted to make sure that things won't be... awkward," I said.
"I trust you," he smiled, "and I'm guessing he really needs you right now."
"Thank you... he's moving to the city," I said, "I was actually gonna help him look for an apartment tomorrow, if that's alright."
"Of course it is... Why don't you invite him over for dinner too?"
I smiled and kissed him on the cheek, "Thank you baby, I'll see you tomorrow."
I left the restaurant and went back to the theater to finish rehearsal. I tried my best to get through the day.
"Hey honey," Megan caught me on the way to my dressing room.
I smiled, "Hey."
"Listen, I was wanting to ask you something," she put her hand on my shoulder.
"Yea?"
"Are you okay?" she sounded concerned, "Ben told me you seemed kinda..."
"Ben doesn't know what's going on," I assured her, "it's just an old friend in town."
"Are you sure?"
"I swear," I was getting agitated, "I'll be okay during the performance this weekend."
We went back to rehearsal which lasted most of the night. It was 11 when i left.
I walked back to the diner. I locked the door behind me and helped Bridget close up. As she walked upstairs, I turned out the lights and got ready to go to my room.
Then, I looked out the window. He was standing outside in the pouring rain, looking at me. He was drenched but i could still tell he was crying.
I unlocked and openened the door, "Are you crazy? You'll freeze to death out here!"
As he stood there, I ran to him and grabbed his arm, "Please come inside."
He looked into my eyes and I gently tugged him to come inside. I walked up to my room after i poured him a cup of hot cocoa.
I sat him down on my bed and quickly went to change clothes. I came back and closed the door.
"Lift your arms," i said.
He raised his hands above his head. I pulled off his shirt while he stared at the wall.
"Drink some of this," I gave himi the hot cocoa, "I don't want you to catch hypothermia."
I went to get a towel as he took a sip of his drink.
I came back and closed the door, "Lay down."
I took the cup and put it on the nightstand before i slipped his pants off his legs.
"You're soaked," I dried off his legs.
"Sit up again," I pulled him up by his arm.
He looked so sad, the way he just stared off, like he was remembering something.
I patted teh towel down his arms softly. Then I gently dried off his back and chest before shaking the towel through his hair.
"Lay down," I pulled the cover over us, "Just try to get some sleep."
"I can't," he finally spoke.
"Why not?" I worried for him.
"I can't close my eyes," he started to cry, "Without seeing all those people..."
"What did they do to you?" I put my hand on his chest.
"I can't..."
"You don't have to tell me," I wrapped my arms around him, "I love you... don't leave me again."
I kissed him on the shoulder. As i rested my hand on his chest, he put his hand on mine. I stayed up with him for a while and finally fell asleep as he rested his head on mine. I could feel him breathing on my forehead as i fell asleep on his shoulder.

Oh Dear .... should I say Poor Buddy, or isn't this what it seems???
Thanks Pyro! You are certainly stirring things up!!
More please
Harry

Chapter 17
I thought for sure that when i woke up, things would be back to normal; that just being with Adam would make me remember how safe i felt with him and how i could trust him with m heart. But he wasn't even awake yet and i felt like he was a world apart when he was lying right next to me.
I got dressed and left a note next to the bed telling him i'd be back later. By the time a cab came around and got me across town, it was still only 5:00
Buddy was still asleep when I walked into his bedroom. I took off my shoes and coat and got under the covers next to him. He woke up as the bed slightly moved.
It took him a second to realize I was there, "Kevin... What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I put my hand on his shoulder, "I just wanted to be with you."
He lied back down, "Well do you wanna talk about it?"
"No, I just wanna sleep," I put my head on his chest as he held me closer.
"I love you," he kissed the top of my head.
"I love you too," I drifted to sleep in his warm arms and the relaxing scent of his cologne from the day before.
That was what i wanted to feel. He knew me and knew how to make me feel safe. It was easy to trust him with my heart.
A little past 8:00, I woke up, lying on my side. He laid right in front of me, staring into my eyes.
"Good morning," I took a deep breath and sighed.
"Good morning baby," he smiled, "You wanna talk about it now?"
"It's nothing... I'm just glad I'm with you now," I put my hand on his.
"Okay... I just wanted to make sure," he looked at me with that look that always got me to talk.
I hesitated, "I just feel like there's nothing I can do. It's like he's a completely different person."
"You just have to be there for him," he tried to cheer me up.
I had to confess, "I let him sleep over last night but I swear nothing happened. He was just standing out in the freezing rain and I needed to keep him warm so i let him sleep in the bed with me."
He just looked at me for a second, "I know you wouldn't do something you'd regret. You did what you had to do... I trust you."
I smiled, "I love you... That's why I came over here before he woke up. I just needed to be with you."
"Aren't you supposed to take him to look for an apartment though?" he asked.
"Yea, but i told him i'd be back in a few hours... I left him a note," I said.
He smiled, "Well what do you wanna do until then?"
I moved closer and put my hand on his chest. He pulled me on top of him and started kissing my lips. I ran my hands through his hair, kissing his neck. He rolled me over and lied on top of me as i wrapped my arms around his shoulders and my legs around his waist. He started kissing my neck as i rubbed my hands down his back. I felt his warm soft skin with my fingers and the gentle morning stubble on his cheek brushing across mine.
"Ok," I was trying to resist, "I have to go."
He kept kissing me, "Just a few more minutes."
I almost gave in, "No, I have to get back."
I was able to push him off, "I'll see you tonite, though."
He moaned, "I have to wait that long?"
We sat up and i put my hands on his shoulders, "I love you though."
I kissed him on the lips and stood up. After I oput my coat and shoes on, I headed to the door.
"I love you, too," he said as I left.
As i got back home, Bridget was sitting on the couch, watching tv.
"Hey kevin," she said.
"Yea?"
"You know, there's a really hot guy haning out in your room?"
I rolled my eyes, "Tell me you didn't bother him."
"I just fixed him some breakfast," she smiled, "It's not like I jump every guy who comes through the door."
I opened the door and slowly walked in. He was sitting on the bed, looking at an old picture of us.
"Hey, did you sleep well?" I asked.
He looked up at me, "Yea... thank you for letting me stay."
"It's no problem... I got a newspaper so we can find some vacant apartments. Are you ready?"
He sat up, "Let's go."
We spent most of the day looking at one bedroom apartments. They were ok but the ones he liked didn't seem right to me. I didn't want him living some place that was gonna get robbed in the middle of the night.
After a while, we gave up and went back home to get ready. He went to his hotel to change and I went back to my apartment to get dressed. I sat on the couch afterwards, waiting for him to come over so we could go to Buddy's for dinner,
When he knocked, I met him outside and locked the door behind me, "You ready?"
"Actually, I need to ask you something," he seemed upset, "Why don't you want me to stay?"
"What do you mean? You stayed over last night," I was confused.
"I mean in the city... why did you let every apartment go?"
"Of course i want you to stay in the city. That's why I turned them down. You have to realize this IS the city and just because an apartment looks nice doesn't mean it's in the best neighborhood. I'm gonna look out for you every way I can... I owe you that," I assured him, "Now can we go?"
He just stood there for a second. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders.
He hugged me back, "I love you."
"I love you too... let's go," we walked downstairs.
I was pretty sure it would be an awkward night but i tried to look past the situation. When we got to Buddy's we let ourselves in and headed to the kitchen. Buddy just finished putting the food on the table.
"Hey, what smells good?" I walked toward him.
"Fried chicken and rice-a-roni," he smiled.
I smirked, "Quite the combination, Wolfgang."
"I was going for the naked chef," he kissed me.
I laughed, "Buddy, this is Adam. Adam, this is my boyfriend, Buddy."
"I've heard alot about you," Buddy shook Adam's hand.
"It's nice to meet you," Adam said.
That was about all we got out of him all night. Buddy and I had random conversations, hoping that Adam would jump in. He didn't say anything unless we directly asked him something.
As Buddy told some story about when he was in college, I started getting tired and decided to end the evening.
"So, it's kinda late... Adam, are you ready?" I asked.
"Actually, I was just going to stay at the hotel tonight," he said.
"You don't have to do that," I felt bad.
"Don't worry about it, I'll be fine," he assured me.
As i walked him to the door, I stopped and hugged him before he left, "Goodnight, I'll see you soon."
As he left, I walked back to the living room. Buddy sat at the end of the couch with his feet propped up on the table. I was relieved to just lie down and rest my head on his lap.
"You wanna watch a movie?" he massaged my neck with his hand.
"Actually, I think I'm about to fall asleep. You watch one though," I grabbed his hand and held it tight, "I love you.
"I love you too," he said.
I fell asleep with his warm soft hand in mine.

Great stuff Pyro! I'm glad you've stayed with this story so long. It's fantastic and you have me all teary eyed

Chapter 18
I knew it was gonna be a great day. As I got up and dressed, I headed to the roof. The sun was barely up yet the day was already bright and warm. It was a perfect opportunity to wear shorts for once.
After rehearsal, Buddy had a surprise planned for me. So, I was quick to get to work so I could get the day over with soon. I seemed to be the only upbeat person at rehearsal which is why I tried to get everyone in a cheerful mood.
“Happy Valentine’s, beautiful,” I kissed Megan on the cheek as we waited for the director to start rehearsal.
“Oh, hey honey,” she seemed upset.
“What’s on your mind?” I asked.
“Nothing… just another blind date,” she wasn’t pleased.
“Well, what makes you think it won’t go well?”
“That’s just the thing,” she explained, “It always seems to go great and then I never hear from the guy again… I’m too old for this dating stuff.”
I kinda felt sorry, “Well, don’t worry… you’re sexy and you’re gonna find the right guy; you just gotta pick out all the bad eggs.”
She smiled, “Oh, you’re too sweet honey.”
That was enough to keep her in a good mood for the remainder of rehearsal. Luckily, we were only there for about 3 hours which let me see Buddy faster than I expected.
As I got out of costume, I rushed out of the dressing room but was stopped by Ben on the way out.
He put his hand on my shoulder, “Hey, can we talk real quick?”
I stopped, “Ok but I’m on my way out, so real quick.”
“Well I was…” he seemed nervous, “just wondering what you were doing tonight.”
“Buddy’s taking me somewhere for Valentine’s… if you want we can rehearse tomorrow night though,” I rushed.
“Huh? Oh yeah, rehearse,” he seemed confused.
“Is that it?” I asked.
“Yea… Have a good night,” he smiled.
I smiled back as I walked out the door. As I left the theater, I rushed to see Adam. He had finally moved into an apartment and I dropped by most days to check on him.
“Adam?” I closed the door behind me.
“Just a second,” he called from the bathroom.
I reached in my duffel bag and pulled out Adam’s Valentine gift.
He was going to therapy and slowly started getting back to normal, like the way I used to know him.
“Hey,” he stepped out of the bathroom in his robe.
“Happy Valentines day,” I gave him a box of chocolates and a card.
It was a tradition between us but it was the first time we had a chance to do it since he got back.
He stopped and looked at me, “Crap… I didn’t even realize what today was.”
I knew he felt bad but I understood, “Don’t worry about. I know you’ve had a lot on your mind lately.”
“I feel bad… I’ll make it up to you though,” he put his hand on my shoulder.
I hugged him, “I’m just glad you’re getting better.”
As he hugged me back, I felt the heat coming off his chest from the shower. He kissed me on my head and held me tighter.
“I love you,” he said.
“I love you too,” I let go, “Well I have to go. Happy Valentines day.”
“Have a good time,” he said.
We smiled as I left. I walked out and headed back to the apartment to get ready.
“What are you doing here?” Bridget asked as I walked in, “I thought you said you were gonna be gone tonight.”
“I’m just getting ready,” I said, “I know you have some oats to plow.”
I went back to my room and slipped on some jeans and an Ed Hardy shirt that Buddy got me. I zipped up my hoody and walked out to catch a cab.
When I got to Buddy’s, I walked up to his room. He was standing in front of the dresser in a pair of boxers.
I pulled off my hoody, “Is this my surprise?”
He turned around as I slipped off my shirt and jeans. I jumped and wrapped my legs around his waist. I kissed his lips and ran my fingers through his hair. He started kissing my neck and dropped me on the bed. He got on top of me, still kissing my neck.
“I love you so much,” I gasped.
He thrust his hips in between my legs, “I love you too, baby!”
I kissed his lips and wrapped my arms around his shoulders.
He stopped kissing and looked at me, “I’ve been looking forward to kissing you all day.”
I smiled, “Trust me, the feeling’s mutual. I’ve been rushing through the day since I woke up.”
He lied there on top of me and gently kissed my neck. I played with his hair and rested in his warmth.
We got dressed and caught a cab downtown. There was a party going on at this condo down the street from the theatre. We decided to stop by and have fun until it was time for Buddy to give me my surprise.
We just sat and drank for a few minutes, talking about our day. When my favorite song came on, I made him get up and dance. We headed to the dance floor. I did all the dancing and he just put his hands on my hips, pretending to dance too.
As I got thirsty, he left me on the dance floor and went to get us some drinks. I stopped dancing as I saw Ben walking toward me.
“Hey, I didn’t know you were coming,” I said over the music.
“Actually, I was kinda hoping you’d be here… do you wanna dance?” he asked.
“Sorry, I’m here with Buddy,” I tried to give him a hint.
“Kevin, I’ve wanted to tell you for a while now…” he tried to find the words, “I don’t know how to say it but…”
“Yea?” I was confused.
He grabbed me by the waist and kissed me on the lips. I pushed him off.
“If you’re smart, you’ll leave right now,” I walked away.
“Kevin,” he called after me.
I ignored him and found Buddy. I sat at the bar with him, hoping Ben would go away. I wasn’t gonna let him ruin my night.
A few drinks later, Buddy and I were joking and laughing. He put his hand on my knee and looked into my eyes.
“You ready for your surprise?” he smiled.
“Yes, let’s go. I’m just ready to get out of here,” I kissed him on the cheek and got out of my seat.
He followed me out and we caught a cab. We got in and he stopped the cab as we passed the diner.
“Ok, go pack a bag and we’ll get going,” he said.
“Why do we need to pack a bag? Where are we going?” I was so curious.
He smiled, “You’ll see soon enough.”
I made sure to take precautions when I entered the apartment. Luckily, Bridget and her boy toy were already in her bedroom. So, I quickly went to my room and packed an overnight bag before they had a chance to leave the bedroom.
As I closed the door behind me and headed downstairs, Adam caught caught me by surprise as he waited at the diner door for someone to answer. I quickly unlocked it and let him in.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” I asked.
“Well I was in the neighborhood and I just wanted to drop something off,” he said.
“It’s Valentines though… you didn’t have plans?”
“No, but I picked up a last minute gift,” he handed me a card.
“Adam, I told you it was ok… you didn’t have to,” I smiled.
“Well I’m not one to let a tradition die,” he smirked.
“Well thank you,” I kissed him on the cheek, “Buddy’s waiting for me so I have to go but please go out tonight… have some fun.”
I locked the door behind us and walked toward the cab.
I waved, “Bye.”
“Goodnight,” he smiled.
As I got in the cab, we drove off. I looked back at Adam one last time. About an hour later, the cab stopped at a house with the lights off. We got out and walked inside. I was still confused about the surprise but the house was really nice.
“So…” I didn’t understand.
“Come this way,” he grabbed me by the waist and walked me to the back porch.
I didn’t even realize until we got outside that we were on the beach.
“Are we where I think we are?” I asked.
“Right over there is the spot,” he pointed at the beach.
“It’s where we ended our first date,” I smiled.
He threw me over his shoulder and carried me out to the beach. We weren’t even swimming so much as rolling around in the sand, kissing as the water hit us. We enjoyed the breeze of the beach hitting us until we got tired.
We eventually went upstairs and showered the sand off of us. I got in bed next to him and cuddled up tight to him. I kissed his chest as he held me tighter.
“I love you,” he whispered.
I sighed, “I love you too.
I rested my head on his warm chest under the soft sheets and fell asleep with a smile on my face.
