The disgusting reality of a child's skull

I don't get how that is creepy or disgusting. Where did you think the adult teeth came from? That they didn't exist at all and were simply created by the tooth fairy when she came to collect the baby tooth that fell out? It's biology, nothing more or less.

I don't like the term "tooth fairy"... if Christmas Trees are being called Holiday Trees, and the Easter Bunny is the Spring Bunny, I think tooth fairy should be changed to tooth person. It sounds vaguely homophobic.

You have too much time on your hands Sultan. How on earth is Tooth Fairy homophobic. And I've never heard the term Spring Bunny either, it's the Easter Bunny. You don't have 40 days of Lent before the Spring Zombie Festival. You have it before Easter. Maybe the Spring Bunny thing, like Holiday Tree's is a US thing, because it's certainly not used in Australia that I've ever heard of.

Meh.. We biologists are desensitized to that. I've seen much much more "creepy" images in my human anatomy book.

Where did you think that the teeth came from? The tooth fairy replacing deciduous teeth?

I feel like I should have actually read comments before I posted mine... Creepy how similarly our brains function....

Now, what would be really cool would be to have some CGI fleshly animation of a child's skull aging over time and watching the teeth crop up and push out all the old ones!

The disgusting reality is that that skull /head had to be processed and who knows how they get the skin off of a skull, much less a human child's skull

(I saw a segment where they did 'bone processing', gross)

The Techs boil down the skull to get rid of the flesh , quite smelly........:(

I'm still trying to figure out if that's a real skull or a model. If it's real (which I'm assuming it is)...it makes me sad that they passed away. :(

Whether the model's real or not, a child's skull is REALLY like that, I can assure you

I saw in Bones they just chucked a bottle full of Beetles in with the skeleton and let them eat the flesh. Sounds much more tolerable then smelly boiling.

To begin with they use specialised insects to remove most of the flesh , though to have what you can call a recognisable skull they
do also boil the remains to remove any remaining flesh , they do this for most Human bones that are going to be used for scientific
purposes or for display or for Forensic purposes .

Another Sultan creepy thread.

So this explains why I have a receding chin as an adult...

Love how the commenters on that page got into the freakish lotus pods

Teeth are the evolved from scales... they originate from when our ancestors were fish.
The ossicles in out ears (anvil, stirrup, hammer) are greatly modified jaw bones.

It's not creepy at all. I remember first seeing this image and thought "oh, too fucking cool." I still think it's too fucking cool.

THe human body continually amazes me.
