The "don't care" Stare

It's not much, but there are differences in US and UK measurements, even in pints and ounces.

24 US ounces is a US pint and a half, or a UK pint and a quarter.

But don't get a headache over it.:)

In the UK we use the term "fluid ounce" as a measure of volume, to distinguish it from "ounce" which is a measure of weight. There are 20 fluid ounces in a pint, so 24 fluid ounces would actually be a pint and a fifth.

In the US, a fluid ounce is 29.5 ml and there are 16 of them in an American pint, making a pint 473 ml. A British fluid ounce is 28.4 ml, making a British pint 568 ml.

There's more. In the UK, a gallon is 8 pints or 4.54 litres. A US gallon is a mere 3.78 litres.

Finding anyone other than a cashier is often a minor quest of its own. And managers appear to be going extinct.

My default mode with staff is courtesy, and if allowed, humor. I've more times than not gotten smiles, laughs or knowing looks. A well-placed sardonic remark or faux stupid goes a long way.

For those with evasion, duplicity, or active contempt, I'll do you. Once you're rude or intentionally trying to evade your job. I'll work to get you fired. You have no place in customer service and your business owner agrees with me.

Decades ago, back when one actually had to sign the receipt when utilizing a charge card, I was in a fast food restaurant. Having just ordered, I commented to the young, probably high school age cashier, that I had changed my last name to Void; and, liked to sign it in big, bold, red lettering. The cashier looked at me funny; and, ask "Why would you want to do that, Sir?". Before I could reply, the manager, who was working the line behind the cashier, leaned over and in soto voice said "I think it's time for you to learn how to do fries" :rotflmao:

I know good help is hard to find, but I couldn't find a manager at a neighborhood gift shop!

Customer service is awful at my local coffee shop. I place an order and the young employees stare at me, like I'm stupid.
I ask a question about a new phone and all I get is "the stare".

Shopping online feels downright friendly!

I can't keep up with all the generations who cares? By the time I generation gets around to you your past generation just talk to people be nice to people and everybody will be in your generation just like the Pepsi teaches you!! if you don't know if that is, you're too young!

Of course I stare back, while trying not to laugh. :D

Customers. Who needs them?
All I know about serving the public I learnt from Tina Turner:
All the men come to these places
And the men are all the same
You don't look at their faces
And you dont ask their names
You dont think of them as human
You dont think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
Keeping your eyes on the wall.

Every good waiter knows the value of the thousand yard stare. When you're overloaded and don't have the time to get caught at some asshole's table while they ask you to get a different colored sippy cup for their hellish spawn creature, you put on your thousand yard stare. It's like dog logic: if I can't see you, you're not there. And no, you will probably not get your extra gravy boat until the rest of your hot open turkey sandwich is cold and dry. Bwahahahahahaha!!!!
