VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict said on Monday that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behavior was just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.

"(The Church) should also protect man from the destruction of himself. A sort of ecology of man is needed," the pontiff said in a holiday address to the Curia, the Vatican's central administration.

"The tropical forests do deserve our protection. But man, as a creature, does not deserve any less."

The Catholic Church teaches that while homosexuality is not sinful, homosexual acts are. It opposes gay marriage and, in October, a leading Vatican official called homosexuality "a deviation, an irregularity, a wound."

The pope said humanity needed to "listen to the language of creation" to understand the intended roles of man and woman. He compared behavior beyond traditional heterosexual relations as "a destruction of God's work."

He also defended the Church's right to "speak of human nature as man and woman, and ask that this order of creation be respected."

bravo, mister. Judging someone based on his looks and calling him a nazi because, like all other children of his times, he was a member of Hitlerjugend.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: all this is just too rich coming from an organisation of men who wear dresses to work, walk down the aisle swinging a censor of incense like they're twirling a handbag during a stroll through The Castro, and dream about kissing the boss's ring...

Judging someone based on his looks and calling him a nazi because, like all other children of his times, he was a member of Hitlerjugend.

It would seem here that the book matches the cover, and the nazi reference is somewhat accurate, even if you choose to ignore the Hitlerjugend, due to the totalitarian philosophies he espouses.

That is riddled with assumptions that I believe in his god, its disgusting hate based on nothing more that bigoted and sanctified prejudice. I personally am sick and tired of the Catholic church and any religion for that matter telling me what I can and can't do, its a load of bollocks.

While we already learned that you can judge a person based on his looks, and that you can judge someone by something he was forced to do as a child, now we also learn that catholicism is totalitarian and a comparison between it and nazi regime is justified....

You are angry at a religion for calling your acts sinful, yet you are have no scruples talking about some religion in this words...

If you want respect, show some respect as well. In this case, taking into account the tradition and what is written in the scriptures, papal stance is somewhat balanced, though obviously I disagree with it.
You, however, act like an atheist & gay fundamentalist.

Oh they don't need our help. They're doing a fine job all by themselves.

???When did he become evil?

but on the other hand, what he said was fucked up and wrong. stupid nazi

the pope can go fuck himself as far as i'm concerned.

Y'all have probably heard this before but... meh:

Q: Why does the Pope wear swimming trunks in the bath?

A: Because he doesn't like to look down on the unemployed.

Rather a crappy joke, I know...
