On Topic Discussion The Eyes Have It!

17-astonishing-facts-about-alan-turing-1696235275.jpg
I scrolled down to his eyes and knew immediately who he was before seeing his face.

Imagine where we would be now if he had been allowed to live.

Hence the thread, and hence I continue to ask that eyes be the focus.

Imagine where we would be now if he had been allowed to live.
I am in awe of the mind of Alan Turing. Much has been done to honor him now, in the 21st century, and we are tempted tot blame society then for what we have come to collectively see in hindsight. Don't get me wrong. Criminalized homosexuality and chemical castration were never subtle or just or fair, but society was indoctrinated to view any deviance from the norm as mental illness, just as today some still claim every criminal act or cruelty is. Neither is true.

I'm glad that Turing's legacy is not only the beginning of the computer age, but the winning of the war in Europe and the remembrance of mistreatment, ingratitude, and injustice in the name of virtue. He is the unwilling Joan of Arc of modern England.

I don't see (pardon the irony) how this fits the theme of the thread. It is neither a closeup of the face, nor are the eyes showing.

What made you select it?
It is one of the earliest portrait photos ever taken (Eastman 1850)....and sometimes it is what conceals the eyes that draws attention to them. In this case the blind man behind his tinted glasses.

Thanks for the info.

I won't argue wether it fits the thread or not, but it's an excellent image. Haunting, even, in a good way.

I will say, though, all of these images of people looking directly into the camera are rather tedious. Of course eyes looking at you will get your attention.

I always like a shot of someone looking interested in their work, the conversation/actions around them, . . . their own thoughts, even. Without cheesing it up for a planned portrait.

That's what bothers me about so many modern porn stills.

Categorically, a model looking into the camera during porn is a bone killer for me.

Some men like the bravado and the implied frat-boy persona of bragging to an onlooked. I prefer the fourth wall and the illusion of privacy.

My thought in the thread is simply how eyes communicate, not merely from the beautiful, but from the anguished, the brilliant, the reserved, and many other things.

When eyes are hidden from view, we are simply deprived of evaluating anything beyond the deflection of hidden eyes.

I don't agree.

I think it challenges the very notion of 'the eyes have it'. The very absence of vision or concealment can convey much more than many of the bland stares of the ocularly gifted.

Some people are likely more renowned for what they wear to see (or not see) than for their pupils.

Elton John is the grand master of this.

I agree with you. He has a sense of wisdom and personality that is conveyed through the glasses that I don’t think would be there without them.

That prompts a good question.

What about that pic conveys wisdom to you? Wisdom is often equated with experience, and can indeed be seen in the gaze of a man, but what about the face with sunglasses gives you that impression?

When I see the face, I don't get any perception of the personality. It's simply informal. He could be a serial killer (Billy the Kid) or a governor's son gone west to make good, or a ranch hand who had enough money to get a cabinet card made.

But what a gorgeous fake. I was wondering who might flag it first. I would note that it was earnestly presented as Isablla Boyer, model for SoL on the site I happened across.

It serves as an example of how AI or even photo editing (Grace Jones above) or great painting can create a connection between us an subjects' eyes.

It sure does.

I just wanted to be clear that the A.I. backed into the supposed image, not that the statue evolved from.

And, of course, the statue has a notably more equine nose, more like Lisa Desjardin's, but attractive.
