Covering something that happened now just over thirty years ago, this cannot be truly considered a HOT TOPIC. However, we all realize that "HOT TOPICS" on JUB really means something similar to "HODGEPODGE" or "POTPOURRI" or perhaps even "OFF-TOPIC THREADS."

Somebody just sent me this link, and it's pretty cool to see how it all got started. Of course the current MTV bears no resemblance to the original. Does "Corporate" even consider the "M" in the acronym to officially mean "Music" anymore?

According to the comment below the video on the YouTube source:

At the moment of its launch, only a few thousand people on a single cable system in northern New Jersey could see it.

I used to live for the late-Sunday-night show "120 Minutes" which played some interesting current/recent Alternative music. I don't know when that program started, but it was going in 1986 when I had my first access to EmptyV.

Back on the air as of Saturday, July 30th.

I used to like MTV when I was in elementary and junior high school, when the hours were mostly music-filled.

Now MTV's like a stepson of E! Too many weird shows. The 'M' now stands for 'Maaaannnnnnn......'

Cool. VERY cool. thank you for telling me about this!!

I just might start watching music videos again. (They never disappeared, they just showed up in places other than MTV, lol.) The show introduced me to a lot of music I wouldn't have known otherwise, in its day. How strange that I'd just happen to mention a show that returned after years of absence.

SOMEWHERE I've got a few of these shows from probably around 1987 on VHS tapes...if I can find them in this tornado-of-a-place, I wonder if they'll still play?

Wow! I was in year eight. I remember MTV being played on channel ten in Melbourne at lunch time when I'd whip home for the hour. It was sooo new! Thanks for posting this - I loved that first song. Benatar looks a bit scary now, looking at that sad, sad 'song.' She was really popular then...

MTV..what a channel that use to be...
