Kuli. I heard a speech made by Wayne LaPierre on the news awhile ago. That is why I looked this up. But it wasn't this statement. It was that Obama is going to take away the guns and do away with the 2nd amentment.Have you heard anything about this?
This is just too funny. Really, how would the UN come in and take our guns away.

The flat-out paranoia of the NRA and Wayne LaPierre

1:53 pm September 27, 2011, by Jay

Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, gave me a call at home the other day. In the taped message, my friend Wayne warned me that unless I and other patriotic Americans stepped forward to stop it, the dastardly United Nations, with Iran, China, North Korea and other evil countries behind it, would soon come into our country and into our very homes, strip the Second Amendment out of the Constitution and “take away every pistol, and rifle and shotgun” that we owned.

I believe it.

Obama and the Democrats do want to take our guns away.

"Gun control" laws are always passed by Democrats.

Mr. LaPierre phoned me a couple hours ago (pre-recorded message) warning that Obama was trying to use the United Nations to take our Second Amendment rights away. He mentioned something about a Global Gun Ban, if I recall correctly. Not sure why he didn't check the National Do Not Call Registry before dialing my number, but he seemed almost hysterical so maybe his fingers hit the wrong button.

Yeah, thanks, that sounds more likely to what I heard than the article. I still don't see how the UN, even with Obama could do it.

That time of year of NRA nuts to come out of closet.

They would do it by means of a treaty. Not likely that it would get the required number of votes in the Senate to be ratified, but it's possible.

Obama has used the UN as an authority that allows him to wage war in Libya without the required Congressional approval. So it's pretty obvious that he can't be trusted to follow any other laws which he may disagree with.

From the linked article:
If ratified by the United Nations and then by the U.S. Senate, [the Arms Trade Treaty] would require countries exporting conventional arms to certify that the weapons aren’t being sent to a terrorist or organized crime group, such as Hezbollah, and that they aren’t being sent to a nation conducting genocide or to a nation under a U.N. arms embargo, such as Iran and North Korea.

As the AJC article indicates, the proposed treaty involves international shipments of conventional arms. It has no relationship to the possession of “guns” by US citizens. You may also be interested in reading the following FactCheck.org review of the proposed treaty (December 2009) …
Q: Has Obama found a "legal way around the Second Amendment"?

A: The administration’s agreement to talk about writing a United Nations treaty to regulate arms exports and imports is a far cry from banning possession of firearms, which Obama says he doesn’t want to do and the Supreme Court has said can’t be done anyway.

International Gun Ban Treaty?

Correct.

Hillary has been pushing the treaty, though not vigorously.

If it got ratified, it would become the law of the land, according to the Constitution. But so far, Hillary is still sticking to what John Bolton made very clear: the U.S. will not sign any treaty that in any way restricts the rights of American citizens. Additionally, the Supreme Court has not been fond of treating treaties as superior to the Constitution.

The bigger danger is that cowardly politicians who like a nanny state would use it as fuel for seeking more gun control laws.

All I can say is don't vote for any boneheaded liberals for the Senate.

edit:

I have to give Hillary credit for getting this in, by following up on what was already started:

UN General Assembly Resolution A/C.1/64/L.38/Rev.1, Oct. 28: …Acknowledging also the right of States to regulate internal transfers of arms and national ownership, including through national constitutional protections on private ownership, exclusively within their territory…

BTW:

Wayne LaPierre is a decent executive vice president for the NRA, but when it comes to politics he's a deceptive, manipulative tool. He's got a large portion of the NRA pissed at him, but not enough to get rid of him. He's good at fundraising, but he's trampled on people who disagree with his methods. He's written some decent books, but his articles in the NRA magazines are hype and even demagoguery.
