Given the price of platinum, a 1-oz. coin could be minted with a face value of $2500 and not be out of line with the metal's value.

So mint some 2-oz billion-dollar coins. I know; it would take 2,000 such coins to do the coins-for currency bit, but a billion-dollar coin seems more reasonable -- and you could see some of them for their face value as collectors' items, giving substance to that claim for their value.

:rotflmao:

Very nice. Very nice, indeed. I must find those collectors. I must sell them my coin collection.

You would mint the coin, deposit into the treasury fund, and then write checks against its value.

simply. Since the coin would eventually have to be backed up by real cash, expressed in loans or bonds, it would only stop the printing of more paper notes, which is the Fed's option

what you guys aren't seeming to grasp is that its a wartime backdoor option, to provide the treasury from minting non circulated coin specifically to provide a principle to bowwow against.

It has no real value. IT is just one tool that could be used.

It seems irrelevant really because the 14th amendment solution is now the preferred method at this point amongst members of the senate, And I think you may see a late hour directive on tuesday from the senate to urge the president to move on the fourteenth amendment sollution.

While I still think the 14th amendment option is of dubious constitutionality, I'm done with this nonsense. Congress can go fuck itself. Obama should order it raised and get it over with. I have no faith whatsoever that any of the ideological fuckwits that inhabit the halls of congress can extricate their tampons prior to Tuesday. They'll get theirs next election. In the mean time: Raise the limit Mr. President, before we pass the point of no return.

(if it sounds like I'm pissed off, its because I am. I'm fed up with this nonsense.)

Ditto. Let's all start emailing the president.
