I just wanted to know what everyone thought about his character's existence on the show. I think that the writers need to give him funny things to say, you know, good punchlines and one-liners. As of now, he just acts like this awkward queen. I know I can't be the only one who thinks this, but without anything to make the audience laugh, does Betty's nephew Justin just end up being an uncomfortable mess. I think his character is at a disconnect, but at least Michael Urie's character is somewhat humorous. What does everyone else think?

Uncomfortable? Not for me, at least. I think he's pretty funny, and interesting to watch.

I love him! I love the fact that it's not an issue to the family. I love that they embrace it. I don't find him acting like an awkward queen at all. I don't really know how you got that.

that kid is so ridiculously awkward and i think its incredibly stupid to have him acting like a flaming queen when the kid hasn't even gone through puberty yet.

there are already enough gay characters on the show (considering its centred around the fashion and design world) the kid is just uneccessary.

THANK YOU!! I don't think he's funny at all. But I do think Michael Urie's character is getting funnier by each episode. And although I'm not into effeminate men (I don't know if he acts that way in real-life), but he's got some undeniable sex appeal, in my opinion.

Just watched the show for the first time tonight so I will withhold comments about the characters.
Good show though, funny and well written.

I loved him in tonight's episode. I still don't see the awkwardness. The episode tonight was the best so far.

Justin? I love that kid! He's adorable! I hope they don't change a thing with him and just let his character develop.

Besides, it's primetime TV. Shouldn't we be happy that his character is so accepted by his family? A Latino one at that?

I have to say that I really enjoy the kid. As every episode goes by the character grows. I liked how last night the kid was told by Michael Urie's character pretty much to be himself. The show is all about acceptance and they do a great job with that.
My favorite moment - 2 year old Manolo's..... "even I didn't catch that".

I love the way Mark the assistant has bonded with him, kinda like a big sister.
So cute

I enjoy Justin no end, and, if the actor playing him isn't like that in real life, he should get an Emmy.

I think it was very brave for ABC to accept such a young, gay character, he's probably the youngest gay character I've ever seen on TV. Does anyone else remember anyone that young? I thought the last episode when the other gay guy (can't think of his name right now) told him to "...dress how you like, and learn to run real fast." Great scene.

I don't get what's awkward about him in any way...he's cute and funny.

He's one of my fave characters on the show. I don't even get what's queeny about him other than the fact that he's into fashion.

Well I think Justin is obviously gay and I think it's even better how accepting his family is of him and that they support the things he's into.. fashion etc

I think he is kind of exaggerated, but then that this the stuff of comedy. The fact that he is accepted by his family.

Most definitely! And if America Ferrera isn't nominated in next year's Best Lead Actress in a Comedy then it just goes to show how much the Emmy's have blown chunks in the past couple of years. America need to win!!!

I think the show is phenomenal. It's unapologetic. Betty is Betty, Justin is Justin, the catty superficial bitches are catty superficial bitches... everyone is who they are. The "message" of acceptance is unspoken. You know why the bitchy characters tease and dislike Betty. They are super jealous of her and her intelligence and ability to do an amazing job -- something that all their cuteness and Prada and Manolos can't buy. The character development on Thursday's (10/19) episode was fantastic. You got a sense of the fact that no matter what they think of each other, they still ALL possess strengths in their own way and were able to help each other for the good of Mode.

And to address the complaint, which is ridiculous in my opinion, about Justin, let me just say I would have LOVED to have seen a character like that on television fifteen years ago when I was in my adoloscence. I love how the family doesn't even bother to go out of their way with "we love Justin for who he is." It's just fuckin' evident. End of story. This character is doing what many of us wish would've been done when we were his age... and that's affirming the young kids of today. The gay kids and the boys who are just "different" than most boys.

i disagree tavares.

i find ugly betty to be monotonous, formulaic and beyond predictable. I work for TV Guide and I have found it to be one of the lesser than entertaining shows that's begun airing this fall.

The show tries to keep viewers hanging onto a horribly designed and executed attempt at a desperate-housewife-like mystery and intrigue with the box issue and the woman who's always hidden behind robes and sheets. Every episode follows the same pattern, which undoubtedly, will get old quick.

But I suppose there is no underestimating the public's taste.

Is TV Guide even relevant anymore? Was it ever? The only good thing you people have to offer is Joan & Melissa Rivers on the red carpet.

Fabulous!

Oh, and this is coming from someone with a "Xena Warrior Princess" avatar. Honestly.
