The gay nephew on "Ugly Betty"

I love that because you "work" for TV Guide somehow makes your opinion superior to anyone else's. One...no one cares what TV Guide says. Two..you say you "work" for TV Guide..but what does that mean? Are you a critic? Do you have any clout? You could be some random guy delivering people their mail. I'm pretty sure millions of Americans watching the show, and the loads of critics that have already praised the show trumps your pretentious point of view.

i disagree tavares.

i find ugly betty to be monotonous, formulaic and beyond predictable. I work for TV Guide and I have found it to be one of the lesser than entertaining shows that's begun airing this fall.

The show tries to keep viewers hanging onto a horribly designed and executed attempt at a desperate-housewife-like mystery and intrigue with the box issue and the woman who's always hidden behind robes and sheets. Every episode follows the same pattern, which undoubtedly, will get old quick.

But I suppose there is no underestimating the public's taste.

I enjoyed the first episode, but then when I saw the fashion magazine office environment, I quickly got the feeling that I was watching an imitation of "The Devil Wears Prada." And you're right, that dark mystery shit has got to go. The show should be 100% comedy. Because even Desperate Housewives is running out of gas with their plotlines. The last episode was pretty good, but all of the other episodes after the pilot episode, I nodded off a few times. lol :-)

lol, ok here we go...

FIRST of all, I never said anything about my opinion being superior to anyones.

Im simply stating the fact that my LIFE is in TV and writing about shows....DUH oh and my official position is staff writer ;)

Some people are just more educated than others. I can actually back up all of my opinions and reviews.

Kuja, you're wrinkly old Madonna avatar is far superior to mine, i throw down the gauntlet to you...(though the airbrushing alone on her old ass is worth noting for your avatar selection)

sunoftheskye,
pretentious point of view? I think not, It's MY opinion backed up with relevant fact. You're entitled to your POV as am I.

and as for the viewers... well, the grudge two was in the number one spot at the box office a little while ago.....hmmm.....i guess just cuz it took the #1 spot means that its a fantastical movie and far superior to all others who ranked in after it....

piggyback, at least someone can see where Im coming from before i get flamed in this thread anymore :P

Enjoy the show!

Disagree all you want to. Is that somehow supposed to matter to me? And if you work for TV Guide then you would know that serialized storylines have been around long before Desperate Housewives.

Sell me some more shit as shinola.

Madonna has wrinkles. Oh my god. You are a genius. I got officially owned.

And it's "your" not "you're." You're = You are.

Are you really a staff writer for TV Guide?

umm....sure taves (can i call you that?), last time i checked this was a forum and thats usually a public place for posting and discussing things.....That's what I did, just as you and all of the others hundreds of thousands of members do here....so thats why it matters. Not to u of course, but for discussion on the forum.

Secondly, when did i say desperate housewives started "serialized storylines"?

i was merely using it as an example.

wow, some members here are just rabid and eager to jump down ur throat for absurd reasons....

I'll have to put on my university graduation cap and make sure I put ALL my grammatical and linguistic effort into every single one of my posts here! Thanks for the heads up!..|

Don't forget, you work for TV Guide.

What's it like in the mail room, these days?

I wouldnt know. The mail room isnt anywhere near my office.

And if you'll excuse me from anymore asinine banter, I think I'll go start work on a new article about formulaic shows. I feel creative juices flowing!! Thanks for the inspiration!

Have a nice day :)

There's a difference between internet slang and how you're typing. Don't confuse the two.

Lmao...you poor soul. Sinking to lying about being a staff writer just to make our opinions seem sub-par to yours. :^o

Ugly Betty is my new #1 favourite show.

If this series manages to go on for more than a couple seasons, this will EASILY overtake Frasier/Will and Grace/Friends in my book.

I absolutely love the characters and the whole concept of the show!

Hurray for this TV season! BSG, Heroes and Ugly Betty are far superior than anything else that was created in the last 5 years.

...as for the anti gay teen character comments - give me a break... that character is awesome and its about damn time TV produced a character like him.

Im damn proud to be an addict of this show!

You're right... this TV season is kicking ass for scripted comedies. 'Ugly Betty', 'Studio 60' and 'The Office' are rocking it this season. As for the far more superior comment... sorry you never got the chance to see 'Arrested Development'. ;)

Yes the nephew is a bit much i can only hope he is acting and isnt like that in real life because he is so young. But even if he is acting its still a bit much and its just in your face. I like the theme of acceptance though because it isnt even a problem for his family which is a good thing but i couldnt help but saying he was a bit much and could have toned it down. He was worse than Jack Mc Farlane but at least Jack is funny.

On a gay forum from a gay poster comes "i hope he isnt really like that"?

Where is the acceptance here? He should be free to be who he is, who cares if the kid likes fashion in place of action figures and cosmo instead of comic books? Its who he is and we shouldnt be saying 'I do not like his personality' because some kids are like that and they shouldnt have to hide thier true feelings. :?

Sounds like you've had to watch so much total crap on TV and listen to so much industry bullshit that you've missed one of few real gems on television. The conventional wisdom isn't always right.

I think the Justin character is groundbreaking. Are there any other shows with gay teen characters that aren't totally maudlin Lifetime weepies?

Some people are just taught self-hatred at such an early age.

Exactly. I don't understand how any gay male can sit up here and say, "I hope he isn't like that" and "that's too much."

Where the hell do we get off complaining. When's the last time we've seen a prominent character at this age on television. It's groundbreaking, and what's better is that the show itself isn't making a big deal out of it. He's just part of the entire canvas.

Wow! The Disney owned American Broadcasting Company accepted us while we can't even accept ourselves? Hell must've frozen over.
