Their heads exploaded after the last presidential election.
They are now sponsoring those loathsome "tea parties" (and tuppeware parties).
Ironically, had the opposition held tea parties during the last administration, we would have been branded traitors and accused of not supporting our troops.
Remember, they didn't torture anyone, they just used "enhanced interrogation".

My my my, see what happens when the slaves get liberated? A mere 150 years later and the GOP has turned into a venomous, mean-spirited whites-only regional political party, much like the KKK. I mean, there's a reason why there is not a single -- not one -- black Republican in the House and not a single black Republican in the US Senate.

What happened? What became of the "Big Tent" party? Has it become a Fred Phelps "Lawn Party?"

Discuss.

Well, this is what the Party will be and the base it will continue to rely on to keep the dollars coming in. Obviously, the Party won't achieve Presidential victories in its current state, and I'm sure they're just appealing to the Whites only crowd until they can figure out which direction they want to go in.

Republicans make fun of Olbermann for his constant coverage of Rush Limbaugh, but for all intents and purposes, this Party is currently the Party of Rush.

It should be noted however that the Chairman of the Republican Party, Michael Steele, is Black. Undoubtedly, this was their response to Obama, and he's pretty much simply a face.

True. Sad. How very, very sad.

Between you and me, MM, I'm terribly concerned by the level of overt America Hating by conservative so-called "Americans." It's shocking, really, and way off the dial -- the "Let's Hate America" needle is pushed way, way to the right. Why Republicans Hate America is unknown to me -- after all, we even tolerate their penchant for service-avoiding and draft-dodging, even during time of war! The least they can do is stop praying to Satan that America fails!

They really need to take a valium and STFU, lest we deport their asses (which I think is inevitable and more effective than sedation).

Hmmmmm. I could have sworn I heard them make these very claims about the Left.

However, as I pointed out to them last Election, even though they waive their "Country First" signs at all the McCain-Palin rallies, the Neocons did anything but put their own country first. Instead, they would rather put Israel first or Iraq first instead of concentrating on their own country.

Alfie for President: America's Ready for a White Dog in the White House

Well originally the conservative party on the right was the democratic. The republicans freed the slaves from "The Lord's" South. Well now both have switched places.. and there are black republicans.

Republicans let blacks in first and freed them, mind you. There are plenty of bigots in both parties. You're a fine example of that fact.

Ah Alfie you may be a bigot but you're OUR bigot, Damnit! (*8*)

the democrats were the southern bigots at one point. The Republicans were the northern liberals

I've been watching some of the Sotomayor hearings and have noticed that the only issue that the Republicans can raise is their standard fear engendering issue of race and "otherness".

Despite the fact that they haver before them a learned and articulate Judge that has been involved in over 300 cases and despite the fact that important cases are coming before the Supreme Court, the only questions are about an unimportant disparate impact case and a remark she has made about "a wise latino woman".

The conservative Republicans are devoid of ideas, have no agenda that has not been discredited and are left to go back to the well of racism and fear to scareup a little support for their hostility to the modern world.

The Republicans have ceased to play any constructive roll in the nations health. Once the Republicans provided a respite from rapid change or played a cautionary roll vis a vis the Dems or slowed change for the benefit of their frightened constituency, but now they play no positive roll at all. Fear and pandering to insecurity is all the Republicans have. The are an embarrassment, parasites we can't seem to find a cure for.

OK, Alfie, most of us are not as obsessed with hate as much as you toward particular people. I really doubt that most Republicans are as hateful as you think they are -- my guess is that you get your information from far left web sites and MSNBC commentators, and never really talk to anyone that doesn't agree with your views.

During last year's election I spoke with Democrats who would never vote for a "ni***r* for President and Republicans who did because they thought maybe it was a time for a change (later some of the ones who did regretted their vote).

If the economy keeps going in the same direction as my last night's dinner did when I went to the bathroom this morning -- the American voters will vote for change again in 2010 and 2012. They have done it before to both Republicans and Democrats.

My suggestion -- get out and talk with some people that are not in your clique -- you might be surprised that people cannot be so pigeon holed into a particular demographic as you want them to be.

LOL Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.

^I think that is the point. The Republicans are left to hope that the administration fails. The Bush years have demonstrated that a bullying belligerent foreign policy does not work and Friedman laissez faire economics is a disaster, so the Republicans have turned to the old Nixon/Reagan boogeyman of racism and fear of different (non-white) people.

Failure of the economy and failure of diversity and failure of foreign policy are all in the Republican's best interest and the only thing in their best interest. Republican success is dependent on American failure and there can be little doubt that they have set out to augment the failure of issues that the administration has addressed, wether it is carbon emissions, health care, the economy, foreign policy or wise latino women.

The Republicans are deserving of our contempt, they're deserving of all decent American's contempt because they are not working in the best interests of the country, they are intellectually and morally bankrupt and depend on fear and hatred for their succor.

But, don't despair, maybe America will become roadkill and crooks and carrion eaters like Sessions and Canter can pick apart the carcass.

Stop the south bashing if you weren't born here you don't understand. We are not all bigots by any stretch of the imagination. Are there bigots here, you bet but guess what there are in all 50 states and every country or culture ever conceived. Archie Bunker comes to mind. I know he was a fictional character but the reason the show worked was that it was based on reality.

In what possible way? This is an old song that is just bullshit. Republicans, until Obama, had thrust blacks into higher positions than another other Democrat. TWO Secretaries of State, mind you. A latino Attorney General to boot. You might disagree with their politics and there may be good reason to but they were placed there nonetheless.
================================

Putting a few tokens in responsible positions is not meaningful. They made a fool out of Powell and badly misused him, Rice was either not permitted or failed to much of anything and the little latino fixer from Texas should have followed AG Mitchell to jail.

The Republicans have never been anxious to include minorities in their ranks. How could Reagan run around the country with his famous welfare queen story or how could Bush Sr. run a Willie Horton ad if they actually wanted minority votes? The Republicans wanted (and got) the anti-minority vote, the newly Republican South put them in office for several elections. One need only to listen briefly to Senator Sessions and company expressing their horror that someone might not want to think like a white male, to realize that the Republicans have once again gone to the racial well.

====================================================================
Just because someone points out that Sotomayor has made a bigoted and possibly racist comment doesn't mean they are anti-diversity. Latino's have been nominated to the judiciary before that may very well have made it to the SCOTUS. They just weren't the right "kind" of latino. Much like Clarence Thomas isn't the right "kind" of black man, ie liberal.

As for American failures, these are administration ideas not American ideas. There's a growing majority that seems to think these are bad ideas so leftist healthcare and economic pursuits shouldn't be immediately labeled as American ideals. I for one absolutely hope they fail: fail to be implemented. Thus sparing us from the inevitable consequences.

You're point begs a lot of premises that are largely rhetoric.

=====================================

We all have recent memory of a Republican administration, so please tell us what the Republican plan for climate change, carbon dependence, health care, economic policy, and foreign affairs has been? There has been none, except for an ill planned war and a neglect of everything else.

The only consistent and persistent direction for the Republican Party is to stoke American paranoia of the "other", whether communist or liberal or black or hispanic or Muslim or gay or any other boogeyman of the moment.

The irony, of course, is it is the Republicans that have done the most damage to the country, the Republicans that have had the most corrosive effect, the Republicans that have become the true domestic terrorists, amoral nihilists that can only try and sabotage efforts to put America back on track.

Fred Phelps is no Republican and you know it. That broad brush you paint with is getting a little worn. The tent is going to be overcrowded if Obamarama continues to destroy jobs with his so called stimulus package that was nothing more than a big bundle of pork to thank acorn, the unions and all the others that put him in a position that is clearly above his pay grade. After all it was Jimmy Carter (whose policy ideas and outright antisemitism remind me so much of our current president) that put is in a position to elect the greatest president of my lifetime, Ronald the great Reagan. Jimmy Carter managed to convert lifelong democrats to lifelong Republicans and I for one will be eternally grateful to him for doing so. Hopefully Obama can do the same. Maybe this time the new Ronnie will be from Wasilla Alaska and wear really cute skirts. Remember when Ronnie was asked if there would ever be a woman president his words were absolutely and she will be a Republican. Sorry Hillary you have been outclassed, not that it was that hard to do.

Climate change and carbon dependence do you really think these are solvable by us giving up any chance of competing in the world economy. The Chinas and Indias of the world are not going to do the same and nobody has the balls to make them. Tying our hands behind our back isn't going to change it either it will cause this country to lose even more jobs to outsourcing. It is time to offer tax incentives to companies that move jobs back and reopen factories. It is an indisputable fact that American factories pollute less and provide better quality than the Chinese. It would be really nice to call when you need customer service and speak to someone whose speaks in clear and understandable English. The only way to accomplish this is to make it profitable for the companies to bring the jobs back. It could be done but sadly it won't be. Do you really think that this new right to health care the democrats are creating won 't cause more jobs to leave this country. If so I have some ocean front property in AR I can sell you for a real good price. Our current emissions standards for automobiles is six times more stringent than those in Europe. As to health care how about a really American approach pay for your own and keep the government out of it. If 10% unemployment and trillion dollar deficits are the way to get back on track then things are about to be really great. If not, we are probably big time screwed for a long time. Can't wait for next years election and a return to divided government. It is not good for either party to be in total control. We need a real debate of ideas and that is the only way to make it happen.

I've love to say to the Republicans to get out of my life and the Democrats to get out of our wallets and non personal business.Who really represents the interests of the broad middle of American politics?Conservatives who in a recent poll number about 40% of the American electorate whose activist diehards want to keep the government out of everything BUT our private lives....or the 20% liberal whose activist true believers want the government's hands in EVERYTHING but our private lives.Unless it's for a good, socially responsible reason of course?

There are so many times I want to tell both sides of the same old coin to fuck off.Why do we have to settle for this obsolete two party, tweedle dee, tweedle dum system especially when both parties are held captive to their ideological bases? When Republicans have seen their moderate wing largely die off ?Though to be honest, the Democrats have built their majority with the help of the Blue Dog wing, who hopefully will at least hold off the true believers most egregiously unfathomable instincts, and significantly limit the damage of their utopian schemes.A somewhat representative if unwelcome to the liberal wing moderating force.

35% of Americans hold centrist views....pragmatic,do something, constructively engaging the best of liberal and conservative policies wherever possible.Somehow they have to start driving the conversation and keep both sides from continuing to enact the worst instincts and policies of the pure partisans.I'm progressive in the sense I want America to move forward, think out of the box and continue to grow and mature as a great nation.I'm not set to believe anyone, left or right has all the answers...nor a sensible approach on how to move America forward, bring us towards our best days.True growth, exploration, vigorous debate and consideration of many possibilities and not centralized dogma in our institutions are key to the real American future.Fuck the bases....let's give America finally to those whose interest is in making the best possible future for ALL Americans. Not the bureaucrats, monied interests, corporate and labor cartels who only think of what will give them power and influence, group aggrievers, socialist engineers, fundamentalists, bigots or anyone or any group whose perspectives will promote the in vogue right or left wing schemes and intereststo the exclusion of doing what is best for Americans now AND ESPECIALLY those generations yet to come, who have no voice in what mess will be unfairly thrown completely upon them to clean up.At far too great a cost in all considerations.

Really? True, he's a bit liberal for the GOP, far more moderate than Sarah the Secessionist, probably more liberal than you, too, given your posting history.

However, Sir, I have personally seen his voter registration card -- it says "REPUBLICAN." Don't think so? Check the source at Drudge -- yes, that closet queen, that fairynazi, that hero to the incapable, fucked-up right wing gays posted it, so take a look, then get back to me with your apology. In interim, I simply ask that you STOP HATING AMERICA!

How is it that a gay man on a gay message board insults anyone with whom he disagrees with inflammatory homophobic smears. I don't care what the whack job has on his voter registration card he is not part of the Republican party. I registered to vote as a democrat on my 18th birthday. I can't say that I ever voted for a Democrat in a national election but if you wanted to vote in a local election you had to vote in the democrat primary because there were no Republicans. I have since moved to TN where party declarations are not necessary and state income taxes don't exist. I am glad to live in a solid red state with low taxes surrounded by hardworking, republican voting people who cling to their religion and guns. You will not get either one without a battle to the death a fight I am sure you would lose. The Republican party while better than the democrat party has many things that need to be fixed. We need a genuine unappologetic conservative in the next election. One that knows what he believes and stands by it. George W. Bush was a decent man but like his father before him not a true conservative. John McCain was a moderate democrat in republican clothes many democrats crossed over in their primary to get him on our ticket so either Hillary or Obamaram would be sure to win.

^ So I see you found Phelps' voter registration card (marked "Republican't"). At least you admit it, unlike the other wingnut slugs here. Good!

Now, as to the future: see you at DeportAir Gate 18, Dulles Airport for your flight to Pyongyang, NK.

Goodbye, Comrade America Hater, goodbye!

Didn't actually look it up just took your word for it. I think I'll pass on the free trip. You liberals are often the victims of plane crashes and as a republican we don't like to ever play the victim card. I hurts our sense of self worth and honor.

Well, Alfie, here's a serious comment:
Many Republicans have read a book. The book is called "Free to Choose" and it's by Milton and Rose Friedman. You've heard of the book. You might have read it in junior high. The GOPs think that explains the Economics World and that it shows how their stalwartness is justified.
The Republicans, in turn, are aligned to a constituency that works hard and doesn't have much time for a serious appraisal of much more than the simplistic motifs of the Friedmans. Nevertheless, some of that constituency has read the same book, since it's quite digestible.
This says a lot about our political culture of the moment, doncha think? Add in Ayn Rand, Ron Paul, the fact that the Constitution might need a few syllables amendment-wise apropos Keynsianism, and so on...

Waah.

As for climate change, the scientists aren't even in agreement and the vast majority of data says the climate CHANGES! That's what it does! The relative mild climate we have enjoyed on the planet throughout mankind is a statistical anomaly.

All you're doing is taking leftist talking points and assumptions and asking what the right is going to do about it.

As for "tokens"....typical. It wouldn't matter who they put in.

We could say that climate change is a side issue. The fact that the human race is using up the best parts of the biosphere and ruining it for our future is the general issue.
Slowing down climate change would mean changing how we relate to our Only Home and less using it like grinning idiots burning their last fast-burning candle. Again--We're using up the good parts of our planet.

Scientists are in general agreement with my statement.

We're in far greater need of the right kind of cooperative action than anything else.
