The Goddess of Pop: The Official Kylie Minogue Thread

....in saying that, I know someone better that I might be able to rangle some stuff from. He's the Editor & Cheif of an OZ mag here and one of my best friends. If I can get something for you I'll do my best.

His mag "Cream" but this time with Madonna on the cover:

^ I love your stories Legionair, not much I can do with ladies undies but if you ever can get something cool let me know! :D

Speaking of stepping back in time, here's a flashback clip

Every time I listen to Impossible Princess I wish that Kylie got to stick around longer. She's done some fantastic stuff since Princess but I loved that she got full control over that album to do exactly what she wanted, especially because I always remember the story of her having to fight her record label to include "No More Rain" on X. Her lyrics were so much better for it. Kylie is so interesting when she just says "fuck it" and does what she wants - I loved the Abbey Road Sessions which you can totally tell was something she wanted to do for herself without much regard for commercial success. It's shame every time she goes outside her box a little her sales disappear.

^ I agree to an extent. I was listening to IP today in fact, she has more talent and musical ability than people think because of her pop product image. I like that she has a variety of music, but the stuff she wrote herself has much more depth.

I'm sure the coke residue on those underpants would make them worth something.

It's so interesting to me how Kylie has such a storied career and is basically a living legend like Madonna et al but she's barely a blip on the radar in America. And then the interviewer sealed it at the end with "What's the next incarnation?" Her lack of relevance in the US is so unfair because she really has evolved a lot, done a lot of good music and is probably the sweetest pop star on the planet.

Also I was just listening to this after the reporter said that Michael's darkness rubbed off on her or whatever.

^ love that one, it's one of my faves.

Kylie isn't a bitch, or offensive. Maybe that's why she's not loved in America.

^ I'd agree with that. Kylie is massive all over Australia, Europe and Asia (the UK treat her like a GOD-ess). America needs to ask itself why their left Kylie-less. It's just so hard to compete with that Bieber kid.

Kylie's been around for 25+ years and she never has been massively successful in the US though - she was regarded as a one-hit wonder until "Can't Get You Out of My Head" managed to infiltrate America, and then after that she went right back to being viewed as irrelevant. In her case it's not situation where she used to be massively popular here and isn't anymore in favor of newer, younger artists - she just never WAS.

What? Does the US have a sound barrier around it's nation that it picked ONE song that every other nation loved just as much and said "ok, this one got through. She infiltrated our system" - and while the rest of the world kept accepting her (chart wise or otherwise )the US just fixed that glitch in the system so "she went back to being irrelevant"?

You know, not to sound patronising but I can't tell you the amount of times when I lived in the UK and an American would hear, say the "Bristol Sound" or a generally British/Euro dance sound, and would say "we never hear music like this in the US". I think America is just so US-centric when it comes to the music styles they prefer. I just wonder why?

Love At First Sight, Come Into My World and In Your Eyes were always on the radio as I remember it when a Fever came out. Fever was a great success here, anyway the bottom line is she doesn't get any promo here. We can only enjoy what we are exposed to.

That's kind of how it happened, though. ;)

Can't Get You Out of My Head did become a hit here, and it came out of nowhere because Kylie hadn't released music here since 1988 or so after Enjoy Yourself flopped. But as soon as CGYOOMH ran its course, that was it. Love at First Sight got a bit of play but I wouldn't call it a bonafide hit, and Come into My World and Slow barely even made the charts at all (both peaked at #91). It was all very light switch - one second it's like "Yay! We like this one Kylie song!!" and then the U.S. was like "okay bye" again.

That being said the modern adult contemporary station in my area plays a couple of her songs sometimes. They really like playing the version of Taio Cruz's "Higher" that has her on it, and the first time I heard them play "All the Lovers" I was floored but it was amazing.
