This is one of my very favorite photos of all time), Peter at the Chop Suey Club Studio, New York City. It’s by Bruce Weber, 1999. The ridiculously hot Peter Johnson is one of Weber’s obsessions, and one of mine. These are a few of Weber’s other shots of Peter Johnson.

The last, Weber’s book The Chop Suey Club, described elsewhere as “a photographic monograph focused on Peter Johnson, a young wrestler from Iowa whom Weber met and became fascinated by in the late 1990s. The book documents Johnson’s transition from adolescence to manhood over the course of three to four years, presenting him in a variety of settings and states of dress—including scenes of him playing sports, fishing, wrestling, and traveling in different parts of the world. The imagery explores themes of youth, masculinity, and eroticism, characteristic of Weber’s style.
The book is notable for its mix of playful and intimate portraits, accompanied by short texts or excerpts from writers such as Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, T.E. Lawrence, Shel Silverstein, and Bruce Springsteen. Weber’s interest in Johnson inspired not only this book but also the related film ‘Chop Suey,’ which is described as a cinematic scrapbook of Weber’s personal passions.
The title ‘Chop Suey Club’ comes from a nickname Weber gave to Johnson, inspired by an old cookbook, reflecting the personal and affectionate nature of the project.”
