It used to be enough of a challenge not to get caught staring in the regular gym showers when you could look at the wall to get your mind off the guy next to you. I am not sure I would have been able to use a pole shower every day without being caught.

Used a shower after swimming with only pole plumbing as recently as 2000s - pool at a college - there was lots of horseplay
