The Golden Girls was another great comedy from the 80's it ran from 1985 to 1992,then in 1993 they did a spin off The Golden Palace which ran only 1 season the reason probably bc they did not have Dorothy in it There's a lot of favorite episodes but, here's mine.

When Dorothy friend went to stay with the girls and she did not tell them that she was gay,and she had a crush on Rose. When Dorothy and Sopia was in bed and laughing bc She had a crush on Rose Blanch walked in, Dorothy told Blanch Blanch that Dorothy said Lebinee's then Blach wassaying Lebinee's about 2 times then she finally got it, classic there's more but u get the drift.

When Blaches brother Clayton came out to blanch.
When Clayton bought home his partner. both classic's.

There's more, but will post them later.

I used to watch that show with my mom... It's funny.

WHY do so many gay men love this show ?

Because we have good taste. ;)

My favorites are too numerous to mention.
Lesse... The wedding episode when Dorothy and Stan almost
get remarried, and Rose has the barking dogs doorbell put in for
'security'...That one about knocked me off the couch.

All of Rose's stories from Saint Olaf, like the one about the
traveling herring circus.... Dorothy: 'Tell me, Rose, did they ever try shooting a herring out of a cannon ?'

The one with Blanche and some guy at a hotel that charges by
the hour, and every button they push in the room does something else....like flashing lights, a disco ball, and a trapeze
bar coming down from the ceiling..... :rotflmao:

Dorothy coming in from the pouring rain...
"Boy, it's really coming down out there !"

Rose: "What's coming down, Dorothy ?"

Dorothy: "The Liberace marquee at Ceasar's Palace, Rose !"

I liked the one where Dorothy brought Sophia's sister in as a birthday suprise.

Rose: "She out-smarted me, Dorothy!"
Dorothy: "I can't even imagine how that is possible, Rose."

Every episode is a classic...This show needs to be on more...Too bad lifetime cut back the hours of the show....Rose is the best!:D

My favorite episode is where the girls watch Psycho and are in the kitchen being scared, and Sophia bursts through the kitchen door with a knife LOL

Sophia and Rose are my favorite. Apparently, in the pilot they had a gay cook, but he didn't last.

I read somewhere, I think on the wikipedia, that it was the first episode. (The pilot) I've not yet seen that episode.

This is, I think, my all-time favorite TV show. I used to watch it with my grandma when I was a kid... and still do.

I have the DVD's of Seasons 1 - 5. In fact, I'm watching Season 5 right now (bought it was Wal-Mart yesterday).

I have far too many favorites to list them all, but here are a few...

1.) The episode when Rose is working behind the scenes at a local talk show, and she invites Dorothy/Blanche to participate in an upcoming episode about women who live together. They agree, and only after the episode has begin taping live on television do they realize that the day's topic is really "The Lesbians of Miami." So many classic moments in this segment! Especially Sophia (in the audience) standing up to ask Dorothy (her daughter), "What does your mother think of this?" Then Dorothy's reply, "I don't know. I'll ask her tomorrow when I visit her at... THE HOME." Sophia's reply? "No more questions!"

2.) When the heat goes out and they all have to sleep in the same bed to stay warm. Rose gets up to pray, keeping everyone awake, so Dorothy mimics the voice of God, thanking her for the lovely prayer and telling her to shut up and get into bed. Freaked out, Rose hops quickly into bed as Blanche whispers to Dorothy, "nice work." Dorothy says, "Wasn't he..." Blanche looks scared shitless as she says, "Sweet Jesus, am I in trouble!" and begins to pray, LoL.

3.) Rose is gravely ill and in the hospital. Blanche prays to God, telling him that if he'll just let Rose live, she'll never have sex with another man... unless he really, REALLY needs it. After they get the good news that Rose is going to be fine, an attractive doctor comes over and asks Blanche on a date. Conflicted, she asks him, "Well, do you need it? Do you really... REALLY need it?"

4.) The girls all get sick with the flu at the same time. Dorothy is sleeping on the couch under a pile of blankets when Blanche comes out asking Dorothy if she knows where her heating pad went. Dorothy says she has no clue, and Blanche holds up an electrical cord coming out from under Dorothy's blankets, asking her "if this isn't my heatin' pad, I'd like to know what other electrical appliances you're using under there!"

I just love this show. Blanche and Dorothy are my favorites, without a doubt.

On the episode with Dorothy's lesbian friend I thought the funniest part was when Dorothy told Blanch (after Blanch finally understands "lesbian) that her friend was in love with Rose. And Blanch was shocked and responded "To think that she would pick Rose over me? That is RIDICULOUS!" Classic self-centered Blanch.

You know The Golden Girls was really ahead of its time as a gay-friendly (and popular) television show.

I have a few connections to this thread and show. A) I was with a "straight" guy named Clayton. B) My first kiss from a guy was a big fan of the show.(We watched an episode and then he went home..but before he got into his car he turned around and kissed me) C) I LOVE the show. and D) I LOVE Empty Nest which was connected with the show. Thanks for the thread... it brought back a lot of great memories.

It's not JUST gay men, my dad loved the Golden Girls, I used to love to watch him watch it cause it cracked him up so.
The gay cook "Coco" was in the pilot, in which Boanche gets engaged to a con artist named Harry, notice the cop who comes to tell her, its Anthony from designing women (another underated gay classic) The producers realized the chemistry between the "girls" was perfect, so the gay cook was not needed.
I think I might be the shows biggest fan, it was on during a very lonely  :-({|= time in my life and I really connected to their friendship. Plus it's freakin funny!
I saw Betty White on Ellen and I new more GG's trivia than she did! (how sad is that:) GG's rule! Thank goodness for dvd's I can watch em when ever I need a fix!

Blanche "Better not tell Rose, she's not as sophisticated about these things as I am" Sophia "Yeah if she finds out Danny Thomas is a lesbian it'll break her heart!" Too freakin funny, Marlo must have laughed her ass off! (oop's I just showed my age:) Sorry about the above spelling:)

One of my few memories I have of my late grandmother was watching The Golden Girls with her all snug on the sofa. It still brings back fond memories whenever I hear the "thank you for being a friend" line in the theme tune. Classic.

ONe of those homosexual writers was Marc Cherry - the creator of Desperate Housewives. While that show was a huge hit, I don't think it's going to last like the Girls have.

"Miami, you're cuter than, an interuterine....."

I'm not sure where you are from but here they have at least 3.5 hours of the show a day on Lifetime. 1:00am-1:30am. 9am-10am,11am-12pm, 6pm-7pm. There might even be some more in there. That is a lot of Golden Girls (and I ain't complaining).

What they have cut back is "The Nanny" to make room for "Frasier" (Blech).

Ooo ! ...And another one !

When Rose's aunt dies and they all have to take an airplane
to some island for the funeral.... And Dorothy is terrified to fly...

Rose: "I don't know what to say in her eulogy, she was always
such a rigid person..."

Dorothy, (after a glass of champagne) : "Especially NOW !" :D

Then the flight attendant (who's 80 if she's a day) comes on the mic and says, "If anyone has found a large metal bolt, could you
please return it to the front of the air craft ? It fell off the....umm,
the beverage cart.....Yes ! That's it ! ....The beverage cart !"

The look on Bea's face is priceless....

It must be something in the air, because I just finished spending the weekend watching the episodes I recorded off Lifetime, what, back in 1999! I lived to get down with Betty, Bea, Rue and Estelle late night on Lifetime.

And it's true. It seems like there isn't a single gay man, black, white, blue or green who doesn't have a soft spot for this show...! Of all ages! I was watching this show on Lifetime in 1999 when I was frickin' 20 years old!

Okay... not to mention I used to watch the show with my mother during its original 1985-92 NBC run every Saturday night.

Back then, I was like six to thirteen years old, and during the earlier days, I used to butcher the hell out of the lyrics, "...You would see the biggest gift would be from me, and car with tax would say, thank you for being a friend!" #-o

:-)

MmmK...

Annoying Golden Girls trivia:

"Thank You For Being a Friend" was an actual top 40 hit years
before the show ever started....

Name the artist.

One lucky winner will win a year's supply of Turtle Wax, 14 square feet of deep pile bright burnt orange shag carpeting and a
state of the art 19-inch true color TV with remote and plastic
casing to prevent 'fall apart'. From the good folks at Montgomery Wards, the most trusted name in today's electronics.

NO Googling ! [-X
