The Golden Girls another classic comedy from the 80's.

...And I always loved how the pattern of the large green tropical
leaves on Blanche's bedspread continued up onto the wall above
and on the sides as well.

It looks kinda dated now, (20 years, after all) But I've never seen
anything like that before or since.

(And goodness knows I've seen a lot of bedrooms. ;) )

I think Dorthy sat in the middle because Bea Arthur was so tall, and to put her anywhere else would change the way you looked at the shot of the kitchen.

Oh Pish Posh over Bea's height !! [-X

My penis-shaped Jello mold question demands attention !

Well... the entire premise of the show is a bunch of older ladies and their sexual escapades. A penis mold fits that theme, I guess.

I want to know why there were always three chairs at the table, and not four.
Probably because you cannot have someone sitting with their back to the camera. This leaves room for three chairs. Four would probably look to cluttered.

Whenever they all ate together or had guests, it was always on the lanai.

I always loved the musical numbers. My all time favorite episode is when they do Henny Penny.

That one IS a hoot ! (pardon the potential pun)

But, watched one tonight I'd forgotten all about....

Remember 'Phil', Sophia's son and Dorothy's brother ?

We never saw him, and although apparently they couldn't say
'gay' in the 1980's, the always referred to him as the guy who liked the 'gladiator movies' and such..... ( ) I suppose we should be offended, but it was so darned funny.

Anyhoo, I had forgotten that there was an episode where he died, and was in an open casket wake dressed in a teddy !

Brenda Vacaro, sounding like she'd just smoked 3 packs of filterless Camels as she always did, played his long suffering wife in mourning, (dressed in a leopard-skinned 'Jackie O' pillbox hat, no less...) (NO, the writers weren't gay, I swear... ;) ) Was there in attendance, as Bea tried to pretend she knew nothing of this 'gay world' that they were referring to...

I'm beginning to think GG will be thought of as 'ahead of it's time' as the year progress....

What an episode that was. I'll never forget Sophia and Phil's widow reconciling

Well, they had an episode when Blanche's brother turned out to be gay and he did say it...That was a good episode. Nice t9o know that Blanche is an ally... :)

Yeah....

The way it ended:

Sophia: "My baby's gone..."

:(

that episode gets me to  every time it airs..such an emotional impact to see Sophia so vulnerable

Yeah The Golden Girls are one of my favorite show too. I mean it was pretty controversial to see old ladies, talking about promiscuous sex, drugs, homosexualities in the 80's. Those subjects are even taboo now in 2006. We do not even see old poeple having fun on TV. They are treated like reliques now.

America is so prude!

I have always loved that show (when I was kid, and now on Lifetime). I got Season 1 on DVD for Christmas one year from the BF (he thinks I'm insane!)

Thank God I'm not the only one that likes this show! ;)

I need to buy the DVDs or put them on my Christmas wish list.

someone mentioned Marc Cherry producing the Golden Girls & now he is involved with Desperate Housewives. Here is a coincidence I came across: On an episode of GG, a guy shows up at their doorstep named David & he tells Blanche he is her deceased husband's (George) illegitmate son. David was played by actor Mark Moses. On Desperate Housewives the character of Paul Young is played by Mark Moses.

There are too many GG episodes to actually pick a favorite. but here are a few of mine:

Dorothy's son Micheal marrying Lorraine (who is twice his age).
The girls going to see a Burt Reynolds play & winding up in jail.
The "Grab That Dough" game show episode.
The girls trying out for parts in a local play with TV actor Patrick Vaughn.
Stan & Dorothy pretending they are still married cause Uncle Mario is visiting.
Any of the episodes when Aunt Angela visited (Nancy Walker).
Rose getting custody of Uncle Gunther's prize winning pig.
Blanche's neice Lucy coming to Miami for a job interview.
Cousin Sven visiting Rose & Blanche using him to make Floyd jealous.
Their neighbors are criminals & the police use the house as a stake-out.
Rose & Dorothy enter the "Miami" song writing contest.
Dorothy & Sophia enter the senior center mother daughter pageant.
The bacon, lettuce & potato sandwich money making scheme.
McClean Stevenson as Stan's brother who goes out with Blanche & Dorothy.
Rose's mother coming to visit & Rose treating her like a child.
Snobby author Barbara Thorndike befriending Dorothy.
Rose dating midget Jonathan.
Dorothy dating priest Frank Lahey.
Dorothy's lesbian friend Jean having the "hots" for Rose.
Sophia & her shady friend Rocko (Mickey Rooney)
Blanche & Sophia both dating the same man.
Dorothy appearing as a contestant on "Jeopardy"
Sculptor Laslo creating a statue of the 3 girls.

Some episodes that I never much cared for were;
Rose & Mr Terrific.
Rita Moreno playing neighbor Renee (The Empty Nest spin-off)
Where Coco the gay house boy was introduced.
A winning lottery ticket ending up in a leather coat at a homeless shelter.
Miles & witness protection program.

And of course we can't forget the episode when Blanche took Dorothy to the Rusty Anchor and she sang and was a hit and made Blanch jealous. When Blanche sang I just about peed myself
