Chapter 27
Callum looked at the man sleeping next to him as the morning sunlight streamed in through the open window. It was August now, and the sun was warming their naked skin as they lay together. Callum reached out and stroked his smooth skin, and sighed. He would be sad to leave him. Callum shut his eyes, and soon felt himself being wrapped in warm arms. His heart beat fast and he felt contented as he breathed in his man’s scent. He smiled and kissed Alex’s neck softly.
“Good morning handsome.”
Alex replied with a squeeze. Callum lifted his head and kissed him.
“I can’t believe we’re leaving tomorrow. Going away to different places.”
Alex shrugged, pretending he didn’t care.
“Don’t act like you won’t be sad to see the back of me.”
“Actually,” Alex smirked as he ran his hand over Callum’s round butt, “I love seeing the back of you.”
Alex leaned in to kiss Callum but Callum stopped him.
“I'm being serious Alex. You do know I'm going to miss you, don’t you?”
“Yes. Of course I do.” Alex blushed a deep red. “I just know that if we talk about it too much I’ll cry.”
Callum smiled and kissed his hair.
“I will…see you again won’t I? And you will email me and talk to me won’t you?” Alex asked nervously.
“What?” Callum exclaimed as he sat up sharply. “Why even ask that? Of course I will. What did you think, that after a year of seeing you nearly everyday I’d just cut you out of my life? I wouldn’t do that Alex.”
Callum sighed and ran his fingers through his lover’s hair. “I couldn’t do that.”
Alex smiled but he looked extremely awkward. He wanted to let go and enjoy his last day with Callum, but in the back of his mind those thoughts lurked.
“Look, Alex, I know I can be a bit of a bastard. Maybe sometimes you felt like I don’t care about you, but that’s so wrong. I love you Alex,”
Alex felt his heart glow, but he knew what Callum would say next.
“You’re my best friend.”
Callum sank back down into bed and slithered into Alex’s strong arms.
“I'm gonna miss how good you are in bed, and I'm gonna miss this.” He said, as he ran his hand over Alex’s cock teasingly. “But I'm going to miss everything about you, all the good times.”
Alex sighed. “It’s not going to be the same though is it.”
Callum shook his head. “No. I don’t think it can be when we’re going to be thousands of miles apart.”
Alex held him close, and wondered if Callum knew that that’s not what he meant at all. He ran his ran down Callum’s back and his finger disappeared inside him, making Callum shudder and moan. Alex felt a little guilty, but he needed it. He needed to make love to Callum one last time, and pretend that Callum was giving him the same love back. He needed to feel his body against that of the man who turned him on like nobody else in the world. He kissed and licked him everywhere, determined to give Callum as much pleasure as possible. He liked to think this was purely out of lust and love for him, but deep down he knew there was also a deep jealousy lurking; Alex wanted Callum to remember him as the best he ever had. Callum gasped as Alex lifted his legs and ran his tongue vigorously around his hole, working his way up to his balls as he stroked his cock gently. Alex looked into Callum’s eyes and grinned.
“I'm gonna give you something to remember me by.”
Callum grunted loudly as Alex pushed into him far harder than he had expected. One of Callum’s flatmates banged on the wall. It turned Callum on to know his hot straight flatmate could hear them, and as Alex had expected him to, he shouted at Alex to fuck him harder. Alex could do nothing but oblige. Callum loved the sight of Alex pounding him, and the feeling was even greater. Alex pulled Callum’s body towards him and held him tight as he moved inside him. He reached down with one hand and it took only a light touch for Callum to cum over Alex’s stomach. Alex closed his eyes as he felt Callum’s body pulsing against his, their hearts beating together. He kissed him roughly as he came, groaning in his mouth. Falling down onto his bed he pulled Callum into his arms.
“Damn you Callum, damn you to hell!” He kissed Callum’s sweaty forehead and smiled, but there was sadness in his glistening blue eyes. “Why do you have to make going back home so difficult?”
Callum kissed his nipple. “You’ve been homesick haven’t you?”
Alex nodded. “Of course. I love it here but nothing beats home. I miss my dad and my friends. But I know I'm going to miss you badly.”
Callum squeezed him gently. “I'm going to miss you too. Who knows, maybe you’ll find some hot stud and make him yours! If not then next time I see you, I'm all yours babe.”
Alex kissed his cheek, but doubted what he had just said greatly.
Callum saw his suitcase coming slowly towards him on the carousel. He sighed. He knew that Alex would be at the Airport too, waiting to board his flight back to Australia. Callum however had already arrived at his destination: Heidelberg. He lifted his heavy suitcase off the carousel, pulled the handle up, and pulled it along behind him as he strode out of the airport. His stomach felt fuzzy. He was excited to be somewhere new, nervous knowing he would be spending a whole year there and that he knew nobody. He missed Alex, and on the plane he’d got to thinking about somebody he’d been trying to blank out of his mind. Seeing an airhost with Robert on his name badge had set it off. This is a problem when Robert is a fairly common name. Callum smirked, and told himself to forget about it. He was here to have fun and learn, in that order. Outside the airport he saw a woman waiting amongst the crowd holding a sign bearing his name. He smiled and approached her.
“Callum?” She asked.
He offered his hand to her and she shook it.
“I'm Claudia, I'm one of your flatmates at the University this year. It’s a pleasure to meet you. My car is parked just over here I’ll take you to where we live.”
She was a bright, bubbly woman with light brown hair that shone in the sunlight. She was beautiful and her smile was infectious.
“Thank you very much Claudia.”
“Oh it’s nothing. I was hoping to be living with an English student this year; you can help me with my work! I will help you all you want of course.”
Callum grinned. “It would help me if we spoke German!”
Claudia giggled, “you help me first!”
As Claudia drove Callum to his new home for the year, she told him about the area and the University, and their flat.
“We live with two others. I share a room with a girl called Marie who is a very sweet girl.”
Claudia winked. “I think you will like her. You are sharing with a man whose name I forget, I only met him just before I had to come out to find you.”
“Sharing a room?” Callum sighed, then he turned to Claudia with a cheeky grin spread wide on his face. “How will I bring sexy German men to my bedroom?”
Claudia looked at him with a shocked grin. “Either my English isn’t as good as I thought or you’re gay.”
“Well, your English is very good.”
Claudia winked at him. “That’s cool, it’s shocking to admit but, I like men too!”
They laughed and Callum knew he was going to settle into his new home just fine.
“So…is my roommate a sexy German man?”
Claudia smiled. “I'm telling you nothing.”
“Ah come on!”
“No!” She giggled to herself as she turned a corner. “So, you maybe won’t like my best friend Marie like I thought you might?”
“Oh no, I think I might like her a lot too.”
Claudia raised an eyebrow, “so you are just a whore!”
They looked at each other then laughed.
Claudia parked next to the block of flats and helped Callum force his suitcase out of the boot of her car. They walked to the lift and got out at the 5th floor. Claudia led him to the end of the corridor then stopped.
“Here we are.”
She opened the door and led him inside. Another very pretty woman was sitting at the kitchen table, and she leapt up to great Callum.
“Hi, you must be our new friend!”
Callum laughed as she hugged his enthusiastically.
“And you must be Marie!”
She smiled at him and pointed towards the kitchen. “Let me show you.”
Claudia and Marie showed Callum their lounge, bathroom, kitchen and their bedroom.
“Now I guess this is the most important room of the house for you.”
Claudia opened the door to Callum’s shared bedroom and pushed him inside. Callum’s jaw dropped. He turned back towards Claudia who nodded.
“You go, we’ll leave you alone with him.”
She turned around and left with Marie. As soon as they shut the door he could hear frantic German whispers, gasping and giggling. The man sitting on one of the single beds smiled at Callum.
“They’re really fun girls.”
He stood up and walked slowly towards Callum.
“Beautiful too aren’t they?”
Callum was frozen, unable to answer.
“Then again,” the man continued as he stopped inches away from Callum, “you know I'm not really into women.”
A million questions ran through Callum’s mind. He momentarily pushed them away, and silently melted into his arms. Tears started to run down his cheeks and he wasn’t quite sure why. The shock had made him feel numb. The man kissed his hair softly and the numbness started to melt away. He felt warmth and love, like he hadn’t felt in so long. He forced himself to pull away from him, and stared at his beautiful face. He saw that his eyes were shining with tears.
“Come on let’s sit down, I know I have a lot of explaining to do.”
Callum sat down on the sofa next to him, resisting the urge to cuddle up to him. He needed to know what was happening.
“I…I’ve missed you Callum, far more than I ever let on. And it got to the point where I realised that my life was miserable because you weren’t in it. I knew I needed to do whatever I could to try to get you back.”
“But…but how did...”
“Alex.” Rob interrupted.
Callum smiled, and salty tears ran into his mouth.
“I wouldn’t be here without him. He told me every piece of information I needed to know, and it was pretty much his idea. I took up a German course at my university and they said if I made satisfactory progress I could spend a year at a German university. Alex confirmed that you were doing that, told me where you were going, when you were going, and most importantly…”
Rob looked away. “He assured me that you still love me. I really hope he was right.”
Callum put a hand on Rob’s cheek and gently pulled him back. Rob continued.
“I called up the University and told them I'm your best friend and that we wanted to be in the same flat. Alex was amazing, he sent them emails from your account, wrote letters pretending to be you, even called them pretending to be you…he mimics you pretty damn well!” Rob laughed, but then his face was serious again.
“I really hope you want me back Callum, because there’s nothing in the world I want more than to be yours again. Since we broke it off I’ve been so empty. I'm sorry that I lied to you, but I only wanted you to be happy and move on. I guess I realised after a while that I hadn’t moved on either, that I was unhappy too. I can’t count the times I wanted to ask you before, but I was worried distance would wreck our chances. When Alex suggested this the penny dropped, if distance was keeping me from you, then why the hell not get rid of it?! If I need to be with you why should I let anything stop me?”
Rob looked at Callum’s blank face.
“Talk to me babe. I need to know because if this isn’t what you want and I can’t have you then I can’t stay here and watch you for a whole year.”
Callum’s face broke out into a smile as he threw his arms around Rob.
“Please tell me this is real.” He whispered.
Rob ran his hand down Callum’s back. “I love you Callum.”
“I love you too, Rob.”
They sat there holding each other for what seemed like an age to the anxious girls waiting in the kitchen to find out what had happened.
Callum pulled away from Rob and looked him up and down.
“So, you took a course in German, and made all those arrangements, agreeing to live abroad for a whole year, just to give us the chance to be together again?”
Rob nodded. “It was quite hard to convince them, they weren’t too hot on putting two English people in the same flat, said it kinda defeats the object of coming here to learn a new language. You’ll have to help me with that by the way, I'm sure you know much more than I do.”
Callum squeezed his hand, “You’ve done all this for me…I’d do anything for you.”
He sighed. “When Alex’s home and rested I really need to call him.”
“He was amazing. He loves you so much Callum, and yet he helped me get back to you.”
Callum shook his head. “He must really care.”
There was a knock at the door, and after Rob had given permission Claudia entered.
Callum smiled. “You knew, didn’t you?!”
She nodded. “Your boyfriend got here yesterday. You are…boyfriends now, aren’t you?”
Rob looked at Callum, and Callum nodded.
“Fantastic! Rob got here yesterday and told us all about how much he loves you, it was really sweet, I was so nervous for him!”
She looked at them as Rob put his arm around Callum and held him. They went together so well.
“Well I’ll leave you alone now, I'm sure you have a lot to do, er,” she blushed, “I mean talk about!”
When the door shut, Rob took Callum’s head in his hands. He leant forward slowly, asking for permission with his eyes, until their lips met. Kissing him tenderly, Rob knew he had made the right decision to risk everything to be with him again. Just as Alex had told him, Callum wanted him. Callum could fell his hands trembling against Rob’s body as he slid his tongue into his mouth. It was all too much to take in, but he knew that in that moment, he felt like the luckiest man in the world. Rob took out his phone afterwards and quickly sent his mum a message which simply said, “I'm home.” Most mothers would’ve looked out of the window or gone to the door, but Ruby knew exactly what her son meant. She replied, “tell Callum I'm happy for you both, and it’s about fucking time!”
Alex stared out the window at the sea below and sighed deeply. He reached up and pressed the button above his head, and a couple of minutes later a short-skirted airhostess appeared.
“What can I do for you sir?”
“Another beer please.”
The airhostess leant in and lowered her voice.
“I don’t mean to be rude sir, but I think you’ve had enough for now.”
“I’ll tell you when I’ve had enough.”
“It’s a long flight sir.”
“Yeah well it’s been a long day just get a beer would you?”
The woman looked at him with pity, and wondered which girl had given him a hard time as she walked away.
5 days later Callum woke up in Rob’s arms again. It was beginning to feel real. He kissed Rob’s neck as he felt him stirring.
“Morning gorgeous.” He whispered into Rob’s ear.
Rob smiled and rolled over to kiss him and run his hands down his back and onto his arse.
“You sore down there baby?” he said, grinning.
Callum giggled, “You wish, you’re not that big.”
Rob slapped his butt cheek, and then pulled him close and kissed him passionately.
“Why didn’t you tell me before that you were going to come here so we could be together?”
“Alex suggested it’d be best not to tell you what we were planning just in case our plan failed,” Rob paused, “but I think part of it was down to Alex wanting to have you to himself for a bit longer too. I erm,” he cleared his throat, “I know you had sex with him the night before you both had to leave the country.”
Callum broke eye contact with Rob, who held him close and gave him and short and sweet kiss.
“It’s ok Callum, you were single then after all. Alex told me cos he felt a little guilty, knowing you were going to get back with me. But I don’t blame him, how could I? I mean you must’ve had sex with him so many times. Besides,” Rob ran his hand gently down his lover’s body, “I can’t blame anyone for wanting you.”
Callum still avoided looking into Rob’s eyes. “Yeah, but you’re fuckin’ hot Rob. I know you always say I'm sexy and guys want me, but there must’ve been men who were interested in you. I'm sure you could’ve had sex all the time if you’d wanted to, but you didn’t. I mean, I know you’ve had sex with a couple of other guys, and just thinking about you having sex with anyone else makes me jealous, I can’t believe how crazy I went when I saw you with Alex. You must think I'm so desperate, I wouldn’t have a clue how many people I’ve slept with this year.”
Callum sat up and looked at his beautiful, sexy boyfriend and smiled. “I just hope you know that it’s only you now, and I would never ever cheat on you. Some of the men I’ve had were good looking, some of them made me feel good, but you are both of those and so much more. I'm in love with you, and sex with you is just…I don’t know how to explain it. All I know is that I’ve let other men fuck me, and I’ve been quite content to never see them again. If you left me, I’d be nothing. I was nothing.”
Rob kissed his thigh, which was next to his face on the pillow, giving Rob an up close view of Callum’s delicious cock resting on his balls.
“I’d be nothing without you Callum. If I hadn’t met you, I’d probably still hate myself.”
“Same, you changed everything.”
Callum sighed and got back under the covers, lying next to Rob.
“I guess learning to love yourself really is the greatest love of all.”
Rob made a sarcastic puking noise and laughed.
“That is the most sickeningly cheesy thing I’ve ever heard my whole life.”
Callum fidgeted a little nervously. “Even more cheesy than me telling you I love you more than anything or anyone in the world and I want to spend the rest of my life with you?”
Rob blushed. “If said in all seriousness, that kind of talk would be more than acceptable.”
“Well, I mean every word. I do love you Robert. When we’re back in England we’ll have to be apart for a few months to finish at Uni, and after that I never want to be without you again.”
Rob couldn’t contain his smile as he took Callum’s head in his hands and their lips met. When he pulled away he looked into Callum’s bright blue eyes and knew exactly what he wanted.
“I'm glad you feel that way, because I'm not gonna let you go again.”
Callum held him tight and let that warm feeling fill him up. His cock started to grow hard as it touched Rob’s, and Callum started to forget that he had ever had anybody else.
Alex stumbled into the kitchen and started to wolf down the breakfast his dad had made. Tim shook his head as he poured some water for his son.
“So when you said you wouldn’t be home too late last night, you wouldn’t drink too much, and you wouldn’t drive, did you ever intend to honour any of those promises?”
Alex rubbed his drowsy eyes, “sorry. I really didn’t mean to get drunk I just…”
“Lost control?”
Alex nodded.
“Look, Alex, I didn’t say anything when as soon as you got home after a whole year away from me you shut yourself up in your room, or when you spent the next day drinking, but you could have killed somebody last night. What the hell is wrong with you?! You’re training to be a nurse Alex, if you’d got arrested for drink driving last night I don’t think they’d have been so keen to take you back do you?! And when you go back you can’t be drinking like this.”
“Ok, ok so I'm a screwed up bad person who doesn’t deserve your generosity I get it.”
Tim banged his fist on the table, “Dammit Alex I'm stressed and angry because I'm worried about you.”
Alex stared at his plate, avoiding his father’s glare. Tim sighed and walked round to Alex and patted him on the back.
“I know you’re upset because you want somebody you can’t have. I won’t pretend to know what it’s like to be gay Alex, but we’ve all experienced unrequited love. I just want you to realise that this isn’t the end of the world. I want you to be happy again and not be putting yourself in danger over some guy thousands of miles away.”
Alex nodded, and as his dad patted him on the back again and left the room he whispered, “he’s not just some guy. He’s my world.”
