The Grilled Cheese Thread

a sandwich cage
That would be one way of keeping the sandwich from making a break for it.

I, myself, usually use a small cast iron ball and chain when I need to keep a sandwich captive. Although that didn't stop one sandwich from breaking loose somehow. It was last seen racing across the stove. I heard a rumor later that it's now in South America.

That's an awesome looking toaster.

I'm going to stick with my $5 (it was on sale at Winn's) Proctor Silex. I had to replace the plug about 15 years ago.

Buying that toaster was a trip. Because that kind of stuff was behind a counter. But me, being 23-ish and whatever maybe looking like a shoplifter to the matron's working at the store, so they are just going to watch to see what I'm going to steal. See what I want? Customer Service? Nah.
So I went behind the counter and looked at the display model. OMG. I went behind the counter! Hey ladies, y'all are watching me like I'm going to steal something.....
Anyway. I bought my toaster. And they were never acted shitty again.

I bought the toaster in '83.

So the first plug lasted only 25 years or so. Irking lack of quality control!

More seriously...sort of a sad thought. I imagine that toaster was made in the US. It definitely was well made to have lasted this long. Today's toaster would be Chinese made, and I doubt it would last half as long...
