The iPhone 4S?! WTF?!?

For all intents and purposes, this is the iPhone 5. The next one is the iPhone 6. That one should be the redesigned one. I think the updates are cool, but very few to warrant "making a new phone" for. XD

Ehh, I'll be happy with my iOS 5 update. ^.^

If you got an iphone already,
why do you want to upgrade?

unless you have money to throw away of course.

apple never hinted at an iphone 5, not once. it was all hype by pot-stirring tech geeks that got way too carried away. the 4 was the first redesign after 3 years. why would anyone expect a redesign after 14 months. i don't understand the disappointment.

my t-mobile contract ends in december. i currently own an lg optimus. it's ok. but it's not an iphone. so i will switch to sprint for the iphone 4s.

what's not to love. major internal upgrades and no price increase. same great looking phone but better.

Way to overreact.

The body styling on the iphone 4 is elegant and sleek--why change it yet?

The new phone has a much better camera.

It has a much better chip, which will give it incredibly smooth and fast graphics.

It has better voice control.

It will make use of over 200 new changes in its ios system.

It's now truly a world phone, and it's now offered on all major U.S. networks.

The cost of the 3Gs is now free with a plan, the iphone 4 will go for 99 dollars, and the new phone will be very competitively priced.

It also now will come in a 64 gig version.

And they rolled out their icloud today.

They never teased the iphone5. The speculators did. Apple just did what it's always done--tried to find a way to make a great product even better.

And they have.

This goes to illustrate my point I made a while back ago:

Apple is on the decline, and they're going to milk us for all our worth.

I'm sorry, but I'm loving the irony of your meltdown.

So, you're probably not going to buy this phone because you're disappointed it wasn't something completely brand new, which you would have presumably bought?

So, by not giving you something new, Apple actually just saved you money. How are they milking you then?

A terrible terrible let down. I don't understand how, after almost a year of speculation with everyone expecting an iPhone 5 that they could go ahead and think it was okay to release "iPhone 4S". I mean, really? Talk about disappointing your customer-base.

And the upgrade isn't that great. Pffft.

Does anyone really think they'll use "Siri"?

Personally, I am looking forward to updating to iOS 5.

They are just hiding the fact that they have production problems with the iPhone 5. Apple only releases new stuff if you can buy it immediately. After all there shouldn't be any time for critical reviews as they might reveal some antenna problems or similar in advance ;)

Funny thing that didn't get mentioned yet - you will get the iPhone 3 for free with 2 year contracts now. That, and the "cheaper" 4GS only shows how desperate apple has become .. moving away from their traditional "exclusive" high price market, because cheaper devices are stealing a lot of market share in the lower price segments.

I've had the 3GS for two years now and when the iPhone 4 launched it really didn't excite me enough to want to upgrade ahead of time. I was waiting for the iPhone 5, something that had a killer feature and a bigger screen and yes, with Flash support.

The killer feature on the lame 4S is the annoying Siri thing. I just know that within the first few hours of using it, I'll disable the damn thing.

There is no longer any reason not to support Flash on iOS. Dual core processors and GPUs along with a gig of ram is more than enough to ensure it runs smoothly. When I spend half a grand on a phone that is primarily an internet access device, I want to be able to access the whole of the internet, not just the parts that Apple is happy to let me visit.

I'm going to wait and see how good the Google Nexus Prime is when it launches next week. Android has been looking good for the last year. I'm disappointed by the new iPhone and don't want to wait another year for the real upgrade. It's now a choice between the 4S or the Nexus Prime and I'm more on the Google side at the moment.

adding a better camera in an iphone isn't called ''new iphone'' apple is trying to make as more money as they can from apple addicted clients. i don't think someone else would buy iphone 4s especially if he already has bought iphone 4.

the fun thing they call it innovation, an 8MP "hd" cam .. ON A PHONE ..

the list if older phones with that kind of camera is looong

My current iPhone 4 is on its last legs, so yes I had planned to buy the iPhone 5. My main reason for getting the 5 was that it was supposed to have a much bigger screen. Of course the 8 megapixel camera is on virtually every Android phone, so Apple is simply catching up. The 64 gigabytes model is a nice much in need improvement but hardly worth $400.

I'm finished with Apple's gimmicks. Why they refuse to support flash is beyond me.
The reason is: apple doesn't want you to have flash.
Why exactly is that?!

Does the S in 4S stand for Shit?
YES!!!

Bionic Droid here I come!

It's not over a phone! It's over the company's bad business practices!
My big gripe is... why didn't they tell us the iPhone 5 wasn't coming out? EVERYONE AND THEIR MOM predicted this was the iPhone 5. Then today comes and womp womp womp... iPhone 4S.

Stupid move by Apple. Now a lot of people are mad when they could have just avoided this by quelling rumors early on.

Can someone point out these alleged promises from Apple that it was going to be an iPhone 5? As someone said, most of those rumors were geek-community generated groundswell. At the worst, perhaps Apple intended for some misleading rumors as a marketing technique, but even if that were the case, it should've been taken with a grain of salt, considering precedent:

Release timeline:

iPhone - June 2007
iPhone 3G - July 2008
iPhone 3GS - June 2009
iPhone 4 - June 2010
iPhone 4S - October 2011

Considering the pattern, it would be more of a surprise if an overhauled iPhone (an iPhone 5) were released. I could be wrong, but I don't remember this much commotion when the 3GS came out after the 3G. And ironically, as far as I can tell, the improvements to the 4S are greater than the 3GS improvements were to the 3G. Apple is sticking to formula, yet everyone has somehow been endowed with a sense of entitlement (not to mention impatience), and I've yet to see a legitimate reason for it.

Granted, there's a bit of exaggeration when Apple says they've "completely [rethought] the inside," but there's still some impressive features. A significantly faster processor is always welcome, and a mobile phone that can record 1080p video is ridiculous. I have a 14.1 MP digital camera that can't do that, and it's far more clunkier than a phone.

Let's also not forget the new iOS. The iPhone 4S is not so much a new phone as it as a high-performance iPhone 4 released to help usher in this new software, which I, for one, am pretty excited about. And it's free, so can we at least be grateful for that, instead of being underwhelmed by our misguided expectations? (*8*)

Why not flash? Apple's stance is that it's bloated and sucks up battery life too fast. It also crashes, and I seem to frequently get messages on my pc that there's a latest version I have to update to. Some of my friends who have had the newer slick android phones told me they were disappointed in the battery life, in large part due to this.

I also recently found out that my one year old laptop was slowing down and needing rebooted because the last flash update I had allowed was leaking memory.

Apple is obsessive about their products working simply and elegantly. They have always maintained tight control over their platform--why would they now lessen that standard for what they see as an inferior application?

^^ Regarding flash, that is nonsense, to my experience, flash has not given me a single problem on my android phone at all.

Also battery management depends on the user, if one were to be on 24/7 and using the phone all the time, then of course the battery life would be drained. I am using my GalaxyS2 just fine. And battery life is the same like any other smartphones out there.

Yay for you. Your experience does not make everything else I said "nonsense." Glad you haven't had any problems, but others have.
