Hmm, wouldn't that violate the Fifth Amendment, which states that you cannot be forced to testify against yourself?

However, I suppose that if you feel compelled to report ill-gotten gains to the IRS, you can be vague. For instance, if you get paid for offing somebody, you could report it as a "consulting fee."

In the UK at least, it's an established principle that profits from illegal trading activities are taxable. I suppose it would always be open for someone to argue that a particular illegal activity, burglary maybe, was a hobby rather than a trade.
