At any given time, there seems to be at least one conspiracy theory raging on my Facebook feed. I've had two or three competing Ebola theories duking it out the last week or so, depending on how you want to count.

* Ebola is either being deliberately spread through the US, or the government is deliberately not doing what it can to stop it, in an effort at population control of the have-nots.

* They have an Ebola vaccine ready...which comes complete with a tracking chip they'll force every American to have implanted in them.

* Ebola doesn't exist. It's a fabrication by the state-run media to force panic, and presumably to lead people to docilely accept the chipped vaccine.

Note that two of these theories are directly opposed to each other. Ebola can't both be allowed to spread to kill off undesirables AND fictional. But adherents to these theories never argue with each other - only with the "sheeple" who "believe everything the mainstream media feeds them". Look, a little healthy cynicism is a good thing, but why not apply that to YouAreBeingLiedTo dot com, or whatever fringe site you're getting yiur news from?

Another common statement is that Ebola, or whatever the topic of the day is, is simply a diversion, to keep the "sheeple" from noticing what's REALLY happening in tbis country. My favorite one this morning was a woman who linked to an article about some other issue, and said "Ebola is just a smokescreen - to keep you from noticing what's really going on in this country, like this". The article she linked to? It was on CNN.com. Yes, this woman felt that some topic being posted on the main page of CNN.com was being surpressed by the mainstream media. CNN - apparently now the Counterculture News Network.

It was supposed to be a trustee from the charity whom was her sole beneficiary, but she was scammed by an individual who had nothing to do with the charity. And the worst part is, i know the scammer. I don't know what to do.

Do you have evidence that this person was operating under false pretext? If so, go speak to a lawyer immediately.

The moderation on JUB is really frustrating me lately. There are people who post here almost exclusively to bait reactions out of others, yet nothing ever seems to be done about it. It's not as if it's subtle either, many of them go out of their way to inject irrelevant topics into threads because they know it will anger/irritate at least one person enough for them to respond. There's always around two or three personalities on JUB at a time doing it too. These forums are never without the resident 'troll of the month/year/decade' and it's honestly ridiculous how long it takes for them to be banned. Some have even been here for years, and one was only banned after spamming the entire front page of Hot Topics despite years of hateful posts/insults.

Either the mods don't pay enough attention to the forums and can't see what these people are doing, or they just don't give a shit that it fosters a terrible environment for the many people who don't come here for petty arguments. Contrary to the belief that these personalities keep the place interesting, they're a fucking bore. They result in the same few topics/arguments coming up in multiple threads, and worse, they result in many interesting/valuable members of the forums either taking extended breaks or just leaving entirely. I would much prefer the wise/intelligent/insightful/humorous people who might add one or two posts to a thread over these insipid piles of steaming dog shit who create 3 pages of petty bullshit to satisfy their desperate need for attention.

You can take the initiative and easily 'ban' them yourself by using the IGNORE button. It can make JUBbing a pleasure again!

Unfortunately, simply adding them to ignore solves very little. The issue isn't just that I don't like their personas (there are many people here I don't particularly like, but I have no issue with their presence on the forums), it's more that they're actively trolling/baiting other members on a consistent basis and the moderators either don't do anything about it or wait far too long to take action. Many of my friends have either stopped coming to JUB completely or only log in once every few weeks/months. In almost every case it's for the same reason; the fact that there are always people here trolling/baiting without penalty and that it creates an environment they don't want to be in.

It seems that most long-time members can immediately recognise when a new face has decided to become the resident troll, but the mods seem to let them go from thread to thread baiting everybody else for months until they finally acquiesce and ban them. By that point though the damage has already been done and the site is left with fewer active contributors and/or a weaker sense of community.

It's difficult for me to believe that the mods don't see the pattern or that they fail to recognise when somebody is purely here to bait others. It's glaringly obvious when a newer member discovers that a topic (or attitude) irritates other members and consequently goes from thread to thread bringing it up to get a rise out of people. It's even more obvious when they go into unrelated threads and try to revive or extend arguments from different threads by making specific references to (or even outright insulting) the members who were/are involved in them.

They always differ slightly with the topics or attitudes they use to bait other members, but they're all the same in the methods they use and they all have a distinct lack of subtlety. There's no way the mods take so much longer to catch on when it's so unbelievably obvious to everybody else, and that's where my frustration lies.

Glaringly obvious. Problem is...enough people encourage them... make excuses for them... befriend them... enable them...and actually enjoy watching it....so there will never really be a solution for it.

When I was bartending...we 86ed people like that FAST..they could bring a bar down to it's knees and chase away all the customers. If one of the owners found out we didn't 86 them they would 86 us. LOL

Ignore doesn't take their names off the list/board. There are numerous threads I pass up just because I know I'm going to have to scroll past and step over a bunch of steaming piles seeing the flood(s) of Troll names on the Recent Posts page.
