The first thing I do when I buy vinyl is to record it into my computer as mp3s. Not for "back-up purposes" so much as because it forms an easy list of what I own, and I can easily play with the music on iTunes to build playlists. You know - "what does this one sound like before that one? does the ending of this one go well with the start of that one?", without having to actually drag out the records and play them. And, as it ends up, I happen to own the album on CD. :)

But I don't do DJ gigs with CDs or mp3s - just vinyl. To my way of thinking, that justifies my presence at the event. If I do it from CDs or mp3s, I can just do everything at home, save it as one track, then show up and hit "play". In essence, I could just hand them a CD and not be there at all.

In essence, I've built my own little box, and I'm forced to work within it. (Most of the time, in fact, my guidelines are even more stringent - I only DJ using 7" 45rpm records. It's only recently, within one "format", that I use LPs and 12" singles.) If I use mp3s and CDs, literally everything ever recorded is at my fingertips. Hell, MORE than that - I can futz with songs and sounds and create new ones, and DJ with those. But "within my box", I'm a lot more limited. I have X number of songs, and I can't alter them much. (I can speed them up or slow them down, or start them late or end them early. That's about it.) Given that, can I create something worth listening to? I like the challenge of operating within those parameters.

Mind you, I'm not dismissing or criticize those that DO use CDs or laptops to DJ. Trust me, whenever I have to cram two turntables, a ton of records, and a sound system into my car, I completely understand the appeal of laptop DJing. :) And a lot of them are brilliant at what they do. It's just not what I do.

Yes that makes sense.

Do you ever go off track during one of your gigs and improvise here and there or do you go in with a set plan and follow it until the end?

I usually go in with a setlist...written in pencil, if you will. It's pretty rare for me to play exactly what I have planned from start to finish. On Thursday, I decided on the fly that I wasn't ready to drift into the more "ambient/quiet" stuff I was planning on doing at that point, and chose to play more upbeat stuff for another ten or fifteen minutes. It worked well, so I guess that was a good call. I do recall at one point thinking "this is a song that will go over really well right now", but when I played it, it got little response. It still worked "in context", but it wasn't the big game-changer I hoped it would be. :)

Cold weather season here in Dallas-Fort Worth has begin in earnest. Cold now, but not annoyingly so it's 57° at DFW. Headed out to get shit done early, as the real annoyance will come tonight. It's supposed to rain from this evening onward, all day tomorrow and into Wednesday morning. Yay, getting to work in a cold rain!!! :grrr:

Headed to breakfast at Whole Foods, and then to get a plastic roughneck tote. I want to try a cat litter box solution I saw on Pinterest, and to get a stainless steel pooper scooper, and see if i can get some stuff for my two cats.

thinking I'm going to start songwriting/recording music again...even if no one ever hears it but myself.

I've always found music to be one of the most cathartic, therapeutic "forces" out there for me, and the only thing that surpasses (just barely) listening to music is writing songs and creating my own. I could simply write in a journal and let that be it, but there's something about writing my thoughts down, adding a bit of creativity, wordplay...then setting it to music in my head that makes it so exciting and euphoric for me.

It's not even 7pm yet, and it's already pitch black outside! Go home, nightfall! You're drunk! :##:

Today was the last nice day we'll get in a long while. Going from mid 60s to low 40s next week. I need to buy gloves.

Seasonal weather changes are always a bit dangerous healthwise for me, because it never seems to fail that I always come down with a bad cold. My throat's been sore for the past 2 days. I felt horrible at work last night - like a DART bus ran my ass over, backed up, and ran me over, again.

I do feel somewhat better today, albeit heavily medicated. Thankfully, tonight is payday, so i can get some medicine at work. I need to feel better by tomorrow - I have a job interview. If I were to get this job, I would be making double what my current overnight job pays me. What I now take home every 2 weeks, I could make in a single week, and they get paid every week, too.

I hope I do well.

Good luck! You deserve it! Any company would be lucky to have you.

Good Luck, JDC.
I hope you feel better for your interview- I know how rough that can be.

Finally watched three more seasons. I loved the show but I just can't deal with these guys' outfits and they have the nerve to criticise 'taste' in womenswear.

^ They have no right dressed like this.

(*8*) Sincere thanks for all the well wishes. Although not at 100%, I'm feeling much better, say, 24 or 36 hours ago. Just got home from the interview. I really think I knocked it out of the park. But only time - specifically, the next 15 days - will tell. Fingers crossed.

Ok, this is happened awhile ago before Halloween but I didn't hv time to wrote.
Someone rang my door in the evening. Who is it? When I open the door I met a somewhat cute-burly white guy. Oh! What's going on? Such a rare occasion.
I was regretting not to fix my hair and lick my eyebrows before I met him, but before I fix myself he explained his reason to come by:
He came from city council of my district to make survey across neighborhood to ask whether a house resident own a gun or not. I got his intention already because we're still in the wake from that Marysville shooting which was just a week from that day. I positively explained to him that I have zero weapon inside my home. He also asked few questionnaire about owning a gun, about survey like this..I checked mark "Absolutely Yes" for question regarding.."gun owner must be legal to obtain weapon and must report his gun ownership to city council." I really dont have sympathy to gun owner these days, in the same sentiment to whoever own a pitbull because this tragedy happen OVERTIME for fuck sake  If you have a gun and you have somebody else living in your house. DONT TRUST THEM..period. If you're responsible that don't mean they follow your footsteps, especially if you have teenage kid. Boy or girl/ especially boy.
Even a kindergarten can crawl into your gun casket then stole your gun which later he played that thing with his classmate. (True story)
If you have even a slight..anger management DONT OWN A GUN!! Just please..people. ck ck You must be really "sane" to own a gun. Seriously. #-o
:##:

After that poll and he left. I was still wondering..how many honest people report their gun ownership to him? I bet somebody lie to avoid scrutiny or difficult question..and to me, those people are cowards/assholes. -_-

I would have told him to get lost. How do you know it wasn't a scam? I have a few weapons, I keep them in a gun safe and they have trigger locks. I'm totally supportive of background checks, registrations, licensing...........unless you have a mental problem (like most 2nd amendment screamers ie; gun nuts), or illegal intent , there's no reason to oppose logical/reasonable gun laws.

Can you actually lick your eyebrows? You must have a really long tongue.....or really long eyebrows.
