This is going to sound derogatory though it's not intended to be but I find it very strange how the same Islamophobia, Muslim are terrorist talk is usually coming from many white people when history says that white people pretty much used to kill nonwhites or anybody who want quacking the way they were quacking for sport.
I'm not sure I'd find it derogatory as much as skewed, and seemingly ironic when posted in response to an Indonesian American who was posting about giving the cold shoulder to a Pakistani American co-worker.
I think back at the damn lynching, slavery, the crusades, the wars and etc. All this shit and yet fuckers are like fear Islam.
Maybe that's due to current violence and the myriad attacks launched by violent extremists in Islam. Crusades, not so much.
If anything, I fear white people. They're the only group that has been shown to be capable of doing full scale terrorism where we are living with it today in the form of white supremacy which has and still ruin lIves even before babies are born.
You need to get out more. Seriously. Try watching BBC America or HK News. It's easy to become Amerocentric in how you see the world. As discouraging as it may seem, the white race hardly has a lock on oppression. Africa, Arabia, Alaska, North America, Central America, South America, Eurasia, and East Asia have all been replete with their own massacres and empires. Boko Haram is but one glaring example. Dozens if not hundreds exist. Whereas your recent ancestry has a bone to pick with whites, that doesn't turn the world into a black and white photo album.
Which group has came into countries with natives, murdered them, stole the land and coming up with shit celebrating genocides like thanksgiving.
Be honest. You've never seen a Thanksgiving celebration where the observation mentioned vanquishing the Natives. And, conquered or not, the last time I looked, the Natives are not gone. They own every casino that Donald Trump doesn't. Tribes get conquered all the time. They always have. Ask the Irish about it. Guess what? They're white, or white with ginger toppings. Ask the people in Rwanda. Ask the Basques. Ask the Aboriginals. Ask the Tibetans. Ask anyone.
Even if a white person was to say how fucked up white people are, they're like you have white guilt.
And if they do say that, what of it? Is a huge population ever going to eat crow down to a man? Hardly. It's racial, it's political, it's generational. Maybe the expectation that white will monolithically say "I'm sorry" is an idealistic view.
The only way the fuckery is going to stop is if people take responsibility for it but you got folks ready to say to forget about the past yet the present day involves that shit. What's going in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and over there has everything to do with the states. Our government as well as the governments in other well off western countries call the shots out there. They put these guys in charge to do what they want then to do. All those weapons and combative skills that they are using is coming from America. The CIA really runs shit out there. It is no coincidence that all this heroin that is flooding the states is coming in due to our presence in those regions. Same with doctors prescribing mass doses of opiates to all these kids, making them into future heroin addicts.
That's a bit of a conspiracy potpourri, but here goes. I also think it unfair to rave at Taz about using "coloured" in his reference. You do know he's from Australia, right? They haven't gone through the same succession of color-of-the-day terms that the U.S. has. You need to find out if "colored" is even offensive to Aboriginal and Africans in Australia. It should mean something that an Australian, descended from prison colonists (culturally), is taking issue with your black/white dichotomy.
As for power, duh. It's not an American invention. The Russians, Brits, Germans, Americans, French, and any other world power that could overcome domestic division became a successful empire and manipulated its vassals. China, Japan, Egypt, Mongolia, Turkey, Arabia, Maya, Inca, Aztec, and many others have done this in their day. You are simply witness to the current cycle.
As for opiates, remember that most of the "kids" addicted to them aren't the ones with prescriptions -- they stole them or bought them illegally.
I would like to see folks say yes to reparations, talk about slavery in the public schools, talk about how racism and sexism affects society and the history of it, getting rid of the concept of race and basically making people educated. There's a lot of wrongs that need to be fixed but obviously, you get to see how people really are when these issues are brought up.
Um, slight problem. WHO gets reparations? 'Cause it doesn't end with former slaves' descendants, plus it would be highly likely that the majority of Black Americans would be unable to prove direct ancestry or be differentiated from any other African American who immigrated after. And would former share croppers who were white or other whites who were oppressed by the plantation system, the railroad barons, or the mercantile monopolies also have that recourse? Because that would simply be out and out socialism, the redistribution of wealth not based on merit or any other system.
And then you have the whole problem of how will it matter. Sure, 40 acres and a mule never happened, but colonialists never got the chance they were promised either, and most of them starved to death. Starved. Didn't sound too white supremacist, huh? And while you're tallying genocides, the vast majority of Natives died from disease. That disease at times was a weapon, but it was hardly under control of the whites. Whites died with dysentery, plague, smallpox, scurvy, and bad teeth, just in smaller numbers. It's Darwinian, unfortunately.
I taught in high school for five years in the South. Slavery, sexism, and the like were taught, were discussed. I worked in schools with majority blacks. I worked in schools with black principals and faculty. Methinks you make a case you cannot defend. Are there places that don't teach balanced curricula? Of course, but it's not an all or nothing proposition. We have progressed, and to ignore that is to be self-defeatist.
If you want to live in perpetual anger, to see yourself powerless, to be a victim, you have that right. I don't think you do want it. I went to school in smalltown Arkansas with more blacks than whites. The ones who did their homework, who tried, got somewhere in significant numbers. You have to deal with that. They weren't playing whitey. They just saw their opportunity and took it. I later worked alongside them in professional jobs.
