The Killers: Day & Age

Unlike their first one "Hot Fuss" this is a .......HOT MESS!!!!!!!!

I'm a big fan since they first hit the scene and even though the critic's slammed "Sam's Town" I LOVED it.
Just bought the new one today and NOT impressed at all!
When I heard "Human" I was hopeful that the new cd would be as good as the song.....didn't happen!
"Sawdust" was even ten times better.
I'm hoping these songs will grow on me....PLEASE PLEASE because i want to like this one.
So far my favorite is 'This Is your Life" shades of Paul Simon's "Graceland" A+
Other than that I'm not digging it at all!

Doesn't seem cohesive and the song "I Can't Stay" is terrible!!!

I have to disagree. I think it's a step forward and there's really not a song i particularly dislike at this moment.

I did not know Brandon was a Mormon!
He seems very gay friendly.
I mean what with their hit song "Somebody told Me"!!!!

Hmmmm.....I would suppose that unless he is going against his religion he would be against gay marriage but, still, I'm not going to boycott them.

I read that The Killers are collaborating with Elton John on a Christmas song called "Joseph, Better You than me."

It sounds promising but we'll have to wait and see.

I did some "Googling" and read a piece in The Independent that Brandon stated his religion was very important to him but he takes a liberal position on gay rights.

I really want this thread to be about people's opinions on this cd though and not religion!

Sam's Town was a let down because there wasnt a single decent chorus on the whole album.

This is even worse.

The diehards will lap it up, but this is the 2nd poor studio album in a row now. They're shaping up to be one-album wonders.

"I Can't Stay", "Goodnight, Travel Well" and "Neon Tiger" are terrible songs.

The lyrics on the whole album are weak and mean nothing. "Are we human or are we dancer?" Awful.

Glad I didnt get tickets to see them. They dont even have 90 minutes of decent material to play!

I actually got Sam's Town first (I got to know the band through the 'Bones' single) and loved it. It took me a while to get into Hot Fuss, but it's one of my favourite albums now ('Andy You're a Star' is beautiful). I was really happy when they released Sawdust, I had been waiting to hear 'Leave the Burbon on the Shelf' for ages after finding out about the murder trilogy. And despite having its ups and downs, it's a decent release.

I've just listened to Day and Age a couple of times and nothing has jumped out yet. 'Human' is a great track, but it took me a while to get into it, I found it boring at first.

I guess what I'm saying is that given my history with beginning to like their albums after repeated listenings, I'm gonna give Day and Age a better chance.


One question, why boycott The Killers. So what if Brandon Flowers is a mormon? I've never heard him say anything against gays, if anything he seems to be pro-gay (well, you get what I mean). I can't be the only one getting the not-so-subtle subtext of songs such as 'Andy You're a Star', 'Somebody Told Me' and 'Mr. Brightside'.
I'm not saying that he's gay/bi (one can dream, though ) but he certainly doesn't give off a phobic vibe.
But since I've never heard him state one or the other, I could be wrong.

Bling (Confessions of A King) comes to mind as well as others.

It's a genius lyric actually that's taken from something Hunter S. Thompson said about how the U.S. is raising a "generation of dancers".

this to me was not 'bad,' just a dissapointment. mainly due to melodic lines and the drums... i mean it was just sooooo poppy and commercial, like, no electronic influence, no syco meter, no quirky/cool style they had in hot fuss.

i do agree that the album doesn't seem very cohesive.
on my first listen i found it kind of odd & didn't like it a whole lot, but it has grown on me a lot.

i think the main reason is that i was crazy in love with Sam's Town. and Hot Fuss is great.

it's also more like Hot Fuss than Sam's Town, which i think turns people off because it seems like a step back instead of a step forward.
