the last film you watched thread

Today I saw "The Big Sick" starring Kumail Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter, and Ray Romano. What a funny and sad movie! The movie is a true story about how he met his wife. The movie was produced by Judd Apatow.

If you like comedies, Check it out! One of the funniest movies I have seen in awhile!

Girls Trip

Very strong 8.5/10.

My only big issues were:

1) The movie was very predictable.
2) They used jokes for the trailer that would have been better left unseen before seeing the movie itself. Still funny, but could have been hilarious
3) The trailer made the movie seem to be a straight up comedy. It is not. The last half has very few jokes, just some funny lines.

Overall though a great movie. Sadly I have a feeling not many will see it since it is a "chick flick" and a movie "for black women." Really it is for anyone. I think everyone can relate to the characters, something I don't think most films can does these days.

Rebel Without A Cause - Great movie! If you have not seen it I encourage you to watch it.

Drag Me to Hell

More recent fun Sam Raimi movie. Tony never saw it and I was in the mood for a rewatch, still enjoyable and fun gross moments.

Autopsy of Jane Doe

This was a new watch for the both of us. I really, really liked this movie. The atmosphere building was really good and the eerie feelings kept up the whole film. Good performances and the characters just felt refreshing for a horror movie. They didn't fuck around at all, they just acted in the situations they were in. Really solid.

Night of the demons.

A friend of mine is cosplaying as one of the characters in this movie for a convention I'm going to so I'm giving it a rewatch.

War for the Planet of the Apes.

Incredible. A superb, gripping story line. Genuine emotions and reasons for their expression. The best of all the Planet of the Apes films.

I've heard good things about it elsewhere, too. It's on my list.

Comments:

Rebel Without A Cause: Love!
Night of the Living Dead (original): love
Night of the Demons: Angela is ready to party! Entertaining film

"Dead of Night" 1945 is particularly recommended for those who wish to avoid monsters, perhaps preferring a well written script, high quality acting, and a production filled with a Gothic style atmosphere guaranteed to entrance, and entertain. Best watched at one in the morning with an electric storm raging to add that something extra to the enjoyment. Best watched with company.

This is one of several acts that might best be described as a psychological thriller illustrating the emergence of two personalities in one person, and the consequences:

You're Next

Rewatch for me, new watch for Tony. He enjoyed it.

I still enjoy this film, the score stuck out to me more this time around. Solid home invasion flick with a smart female protagonist.

Atomic Blonde - Awesome movie! Great action and an engaging story that keeps you interested.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets 3D. Not that good.

Although it had many excellent adaptations of concepts from the comics, the movie failed to convey the sociological and political subtext of the comic series. It wasn't as captivating as The Fifth Element, which might be due to the editing.
