the last film you watched thread

just saw Titanic 3D with my new guy

really enjoyed it

A melodrama with too much frosting, Curse of the Golden Flower (2007). Yimou Zhang's early work was poignant, but with the big budgets of the new Chinese economy he's dismissed storytelling in favor of lily-gilding.

Could not agree more, zoltan. I was so looking forward to a collaboration between Zhang Yimou and Gong Li... this was such such a disappointment.

Much in the same vein that The Banquet and The Promise were disappointments. Terrible. Terrible films.

I miss the old days of films like Ju Dou, Raise the Red Lantern, and To Live.

War Horse on blu-ray. Very good, although somewhat familiar, story about a boy and his horse. This one chronicles the experience of the horse as his ownership goes through several interesting characters. Has some impressive, memorable Spielberg-esque scenes.

Last film I watched was the Blindside with Sandra Bullock. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the fact that it's based on a true story makes it even better.

It's such a dramatic change from those three excellent films. What happened?

I don't know. Really. I think Zhang Yimou's last great film was Hero which is like a work of art. Just stunning.

If you haven't seen it, his first film with Zhang Ziyi The Road Home is just wonderful.

The secret life of bees

didn't expect it to be such an awesome movie! made me cry twice (I rarely cry for movies), kinda sad in general but happyish ending :-)

oh and don't mistake it for a chick flick....oh hell naww! it's pretty deep lol

Burnt Offering starring Karen Black and Bette Davis... slow starting off but really good if you are a fan of classic horror.

Music Box (1989) a Chicago lawyer (Jessica Lange) must defend her immigrant father from deportation to Hungary after he is accused of war crimes he allegedly committed in WW2. My message to Dad: It's never a good idea to fudge the truth.
