Brilliant.

True Grit was one of my top films of last year. It really is a brilliant remake. But, where did you see it? I didn't realize it was still playing in theaters.

In any case, the last film I saw is The Tree of Life, the latest from director Terrence Malick. While it may not be for everyone, I think it's one of the best of this year so far.

There are a few theatres near where I live in Brisbane which specialise in getting films after their initial release and playing them for a half, or a third of the usual price of admission.

Malick is a really interesting filmmaker. "Days of Heaven" was wonderful, "Thin Red Line" not so much. This film will be interesting, I think.

Badlands and Days of Heaven are beyond reproach. I'm happy to champion The Thin Red Line.

I'm equally excited to see The Tree of Life and embarrassed to admit I was so influenced by reviews of The New World I never saw it. I need to change that.

The issue I had with "Thin Red Line" was the number of big named stars - I personally found it distracting to the point of being almost comical. I understood that stars were lining up with work with Malick, but really, the detracted from the plot and character in my opinion.

"Days of Heaven", I will say again, is a stunningly beautiful film in every respect.

"The New World" is a very pretty film - the story isn't as strong as it could be but it is nowhere near as bad as the reviews made it out to be. I'd give it a shot.

Henri-Georges Clouzot's 1943 Le Corbeau. Interesting in its own right as a mystery of suspicions and recriminations, it packs even more of a punch considering the climate of occupied France it critiqued....right under the Nazi's noses.

I washed Le Corbeau down with Robo-Geisha. Noboru Iguchi's The Machine Girl is a better example of his work, but I always enjoy the genre.

I'm curious what you didn't like about The Thin Red Line. Most people (casual moviegoers, at least) seem to be of the opinion that it's his best film. (Not to group you or anyone into that dreaded category of "most people" of course, lol ) Have you also seen Badlands and The New World?

"Thin Red Line" struck the wrong chords with me and one of the most distracting aspects of it was the number of big-named stars in the cast. It seemed to me at the time that every minor character was being played by a big star and I just couldn't get into the film. That's not to say the film didn't look stunning though! All of Malick's films are beautifully shot.

In part, it have something to do with my general aversion to war films. For instance, I didn't like "Saving Private Ryan" either which was that year's big war film. Maybe it's not Malick, maybe it's just me?!

I have seen "The New World". I liked it. Again, a stunning looking film. "Badlands" is on my "to watch" list but I don't seem to have gotten around to it.

I am keen to see "Tree of Life" though.

Fast Five with my date, we were cuddling for the whole movie and i love big arms it feels like a pillow:$ and we were holding hands too=)...

in general Fast Five was pretty neat it's great to see Vin Diesel in the movie again (and he's hot)...
