Has anyone else played this game? It is spectacular. Great story, beautifully rendered environments, two of the most complex characters in gaming and some extremely tense gameplay.

Yes I started it last week, about 4 hours in so far. I haven't been overly impressed so far, but it is gradually getting better. It definitely is like Uncharted meets Walking Dead. So in theory it should be a perfect game. I'm hoping it doesn't get too silly like Resident Evil games did.

I was disappointed how at the beginning Joel aged 20 years and we missed out on everything that happened. I guess that comes with the inevitable sequel/prequel.
Ellie looks and sounds like a ringer for Ellen Page. No wonder she is upset with Naughty Dog for using her likeness without her permission.

Played more last night and now I am a bit past 50% done in the story. More impressions. . .
Good: Tense, suspenseful moments. Dialogue. Challenging, not a walk in the park.
Bad: The good tense moments are too few. Often relies on scripted surprise events resulting with trial and error (die and reload). NPCs can't be commanded; they get in the way and sometimes cause me to die.

This game is easily one of the best this year. I played it twice now and I was still as invested as I was my first playthrough.

The more I think about it the more conflicted I am about the ending... not whether it was good or bad but what I would have done in that situation...

The way I see the ending is, Joel finally found someone he cared for in Ellie and wanted to protect her so that she didn't wind up like his daughter. Really, if you think about it, it was both a selfish choice, but also one that made sense. They had been searching for a cure and finally found some form of hope in Ellie's immunity.
I'll admit that I didn't want her to die at all since I had grown so attached to her as I played the game.
Think about this, The Infected will all eventually die off since they're all living creatures and once they die, all that will need to be done is dispose of the bodies and do a clean up. Spores can obviously be avoided with a simple gas mask and all bloaters can be disposed of via military weapons.
At the same time, I, personally, believe that there was no point in finding a cure. I only thought this after having beaten the game, but let's say they did find a cure...what then? Could the human race really have gone back to the way things were before The Infected? By that point, mankind had become so savage that they'd kill children for food or supplies.
I'd say ask yourself that question anyway.

I'm still not done yet. I am still not sure the game is quite as good as all the hype I read about it. I haven't read any spoilers, but I am guessing it has a "surprise" shocking ending which is making everyone love it. Sorta like the Bioshock Infinite phenomenon. I think I can predict the ending; I am guessing its not going to be all that original for a zombie apocalypse based story. I've played The Walking Dead, so. . .

I'm not sure I'd describe it as a 'surprise ending' or that it was shocking, but it does make me question it. I have discussed it with many people who have finished the game and none of us are really conclusive about how we feel about it.

A good friend really hyped this up and talked me into buying it. I have about a 4 minute attention span, and have never played any game through to the end. I play off and on for awhile, then just never look back at it.
I played this game through in 6 days. I love the post-apocalyptic kinda scenery. 'Life After People' was a favorite series of mine on TV... on the History channel I think. This game reminds me a lot of that show.
It takes strategy to get through it, it's not just a spray-and-pray thing. You can (and sometimes have to) explore the surrounding area.. see and learn about the life that was left behind, find things left behind. Rummage thru abandoned buildings and whatnot. I'm slowly playing it again now, lotta stuff I missed the first time through I'm noticing. For a non-gaming-enthusiast, cringing at the cost of new games, I'm glad I spent the money on this one.
