The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

This might be silly now considering the Wii-U has been announced for quite some time now.. but is this game worth getting a Wii for? I've been craving a 3D Zelda game for quite some time now.

I also have not played Twilight Princess yet, so I guess I should say are these games worth the console. There are other titles I'd probably get as well, but this would be what I'd get with the console.

No, wait until the Wii U comes out, you can play Wii games on Wii U. You could do what I did at the time of when Wii came out. I bought Resident Evil remake on Gamecube bought a Gamecube controller and waited until I got the Wii. Buy the games now buy the system later.

I am almost at the final boss...can hardly wait!

Managed to find all the songs online..Fi's themes amazing and tearjerking and Zelda's..great as always.

I haven't played this game for over a month, but anyway: I'm rather far in and just have the third sacred realm to visit. I'm just not too anxious to visit that fucking water dragon again because I hate the swimming mechanic (it's like they took everything I hate about the flying mechanic and made it even more terrible). I do like the sacred realm levels though, definitely a nice change of pace, particularly after getting so many hearts and weapons and abilities, they're perfectly challenging.

Most of what I love about this game is what was carried over to it from Wind Waker, which I think is a far more worthy game of borrowing from than Twilight Princess, which borrowed far too heavily from Ocarina of Time.

The mine/desert region is by far my favorite. I'm not as fond of the pirate ship as others seem to have been. I thought it was pretty easy and underwhelming. Otherwise the desert temple was pretty great. The volcano temple was great as well. I don't particularly like having to find the cubes to unlock treasure chests in the sky. I loved being able to find a random island and treasure in Wind Waker. Can't do that here. I do find myself returning to Skyloft frequently to purchase potions and items, etc. I tended to avoid trading and things in previous Zelda games. I'd rather win and earn than buy and trade, but I don't mind that so much here, I just wish there were more stories and things going on at Skyloft. I mean, there are several characters who continue to say the exact same things to me every time I speak with them for what has seemed like most of the game. Yes, i saved the little girl from the monster... ages ago, MOVE ON!

Not to sound lazy, but I don't see how one can roll bombs without standing up. I don't mind standing I guess, but in the middle of a boss fight, it's kind of annoying. I'm really glad I can continue to use won items and weapons throughout the game. It was annoying to me in Twilight Princess to win something I can't use past the particular dungeon I found it in.

Also, the harp is a poor excuse for continuing the Zelda tradition of including a musical instrument to guide you on your journey. At least have something that makes some sense with the wii remote. Some sort of flute or pounding a drum or something. It's just lame.

And Fi is annoying and far too helpful.

Best song of the game.

Thanks for the review.

I'm not a big gamer (this is the first Zelda game I've played) and have heard many people criticize this game for its shortcomings when compared to other LoZ games. I can understand their points. Even with my limited experience, I too agree that there was too much backtracking, not enough stuff going on in the sky, and wish day/night was an actual cycle so that you could, y'know, explore at night! Fi also got a bit annoying, but I still loved her concept. I also would have liked to have actual control over an instrument (all you can do is randomly strum, and when the time to play an actual song comes, it automatically does so in a cutscene.)

Despite this, I am thoroughly enjoying the game. It's a ton of fun, and to me, that is what is most important. I think some of the more serious gamers have lost sight of that. The graphics may not be be HD, but the style is artistic, bright, and beautiful, the story is interesting and dramatic, the characters are great, the items are creative, and contrary to what many others have said, the Wii MotionPlus functioned well enough for me. I can't imagine ever swinging a sword any other way in a video game. I am Link, and that is a truly magical feeling.
