The Lisp!

I don't know any who lisp either, although it certainly is an old stereotype.

I know what you are talking about - sometimes it is not a lisp as much as it is an intonation of the voice that is frequently imitated on TV and in movies. I have no idea why it is something some gay men tend to have - but not all of us do!

Are we talking about a true "lisp" where the "S" sound becomes a "TH" or are you referring to the syllibant S...wherein a guy walks down the street and seems to trail fifteen feet of Ss behind him?

I cant say that I know anyone with a lisp at all, except my friend Johnathon who is straight and has one as a speech impediment.

My friends don't have it, and I've seen a few guys at some parties who have it, its not all that bad, but some do have a problem with it.

Oh get over it already.

Some people have them, some people don't. No one but God herself knows why.

Sheeshh.....every other day, there's some question about the "lisp".

Some of us would rather not have one, but it simply won't ssssstop.

I don't know many gay men who have a lisp either...

I imagine that it seems like 'so many gay guys have this' because portrayals of us in media or movies and television as well as any other form of press always has gay men with lisps.

If you were always showed gay men with blonde hair, I imagine someone would ask whys o many gay mens eem to have blonde hair.

When i was younger i had a lisp but i grew out of it.

There was this straight man, his name was Seth. I really liked him and he liked me but i couldnt date him because i couldnt pronounce his name.

Now he is married.

Thats the way love goes.

Just an old sterotype, try watching less gay guys on Tv and getting out and meeting real gay guys in bars or where ever and I think you will find very few people have a lisp.

I don't know of a single person with a lisp. I have a brother-in-law who studders.... but that's not any indication of his sexual orientation.

At one time it was considered a desirable trait in the gay community. Guys with a lisp were viewed as more "sophisticated". People would intentionally learn to speak that way. Thankfully lisps seem to have fallen out of favor. I don't know what started it in the first place. Maybe it was a way to identify yourself as out and proud?

LOL

As if someone could fake a lisp...well, I guess they could...

but man, I came out lisping my s all over the place.

And why should I feel ashamed or have anyone judge me for it?

I've dealt with enough bias, I don't need it from my own community as well.

I don't have a lisp and the only person I know who has a lisp is straight. Its just a (false) stereotype.

I would not say this is a false stereotype. A lot of the people I know, especially those who are out, have this lisp, along with very feminine characteristics.
