The love-handles question

Since there are that many people with so much knowledge of healthy diet around in this thread.
Does anybody of you know some kind of website, tool, table or whatever which has information like that stored for all kinds of food stuff.

I think of something like that, where I can enter:

I enter, today I have eaten 2 crispbreads with some low fat curd cheese and an apple for breakfast.
For dinner I had noodles with sugar peas and sesame seeds, followed by green salad with tomatoes and a glass of vegetable juice.

And now it should show something like the recommended numbers of every important nutrition value and what I have covered with it. Then I can chose some stuff from the lists for supper, so that I can cover the rest for the day.

Does something like that exist :) ?

This: http://www.foodtv.ca/reference/nutrition/nutrition.aspx

Paired with this: http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/calories-burned

seems to cover your needs;)

Thanks for posting that! It is about going in the direction I thought of. Still a bit too complicated though.
I also found this:

But that's a bit too unprecise, but still interesting because it also gives you recipes :)

So that post is almost 4 years old. I was a 25 year old semi twink when I posted that, now I'm approaching gay middle age. :p

The good news is that I haven't put on weight, and the bad news is that my body composition hasnt changed much either. Its just been a combination of lots of travel, occasional bad health, and work. Over the last 6 weeks though, I've been going to the gym 5 days a week, doing HIIT on the eliptical trainer for 2-3 days and weight training for 2 days. Meals are meat and veggies with almost no bread. So I seem to be doing the right things but here's the problem: I've lost almost 4 pounds without any real reduction on my waist which is 33".

If I continue my current routine I run the risk of being underweight. what should I do?

Also, I came across this article for 'skinny fat' guys like me. Apparently, the advise is to do resistance training for 3 days a week and eat around 1800 calories per day. Does that make sense? Won't that make me lose more weight?

Help! My resolution is to get in shape before 30 to stave off an imminent "mid life" crisis :p

Thanks for the update but it would be much better with pictures. :p

Hi Kara, took me a while to get the picture uploaded, but here they are: NewStart's Album: Me-before

My waist is now 32.5", weight is 65 kgs, i look borderline famished, but still can't get the bloody love handles to go. I don't want to be supper ripped, just want a flat abdomen. How?

The pictures help. You do have an area of fat over your hips. That's where guys tend to deposit fat. You can try to lose that with trimming carbs and exercising but honestly, it will come back pretty quickly since you don't seem to be storing a lot of fat elsewhere.

We're definitely in the summer because we're getting a lot of threads about body image (swimsuit season does that). The interesting thing in your body type is that it is another proportions thing. Most guys would love to have your body- you're in good shape. Honestly, the only picture where the love handles are visible was the rear shot and that's largely because the elastic on your underwear was tight and pressed down on the area.

For most guys, the smallest part of their waist is immediately above their pelvis (where the hip bones protrude on either side)- close to their bellybutton. The narrowest part of your waist is higher than that- it's up around where your rib cage ends. This is what is making you appear to have "love handles" when in fact, you don't have too much fat there at all. It's proportion again- you have an upper half that is more thin (ectomorphic) and a lower half that is normal sized (mesomorphic).

You can trim what little fat is there but what would really make a difference is to add a bit more muscle in your upper back and upper arm. There's limits on what you can do to change your hip size- the pelvis is bone and won't shrink, but by accentuating your upper body with muscle and toning, you will give more balance to your upper and lower body.

Something to keep in mind though. You see yourself naked and in underwear probably daily. So, you have time to focus on your flaws. If a guy were to see you in your underwear, he's probably going to be more interested in getting those undies off. He's going to be very interested in the things that turn him on and less interested in focusing on the things that are bothering you. It's something that bothers you more than it will ever bother anyone else. To most guys, you look normal.

I agree with what Karabulut said about your two different body types. Your upper body is smaller. And you really don't have a lot of fat on your waist, it's just bigger. Why don't you try building your chest and back muscles up to match your waist? A muscular back gives that V shaped that tapers down to your waist that you see from the front and back. It would balance your look and have the added benefit of more muscles = more fat burning.

Go eat paleo or primal diet! Ditch processed junk, sugar, carb, grain, soy, industrial vegitable oils, and eat real food!

Thanks for the thoughtful posts, kara and alister. I've started focusing on the upper body now. I can already feel myself getting more toned, but I guess the results will take time to show. I'll keep you guys posted of the progress.
