On Topic Discussion The M.A.T. (Military Appreciation Thread)

Re: The Military Appreciation Thread.

A branch of our military that can often go unnoticed, easily forgotten, rarely ever thanked, laughed off and some wouldn't even consider it part of the military... The United States Coast Guard. For this day, to honor one of our very own, our "prancing pony", former member of the USCG...

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven U.S. uniformed services.
Founded by Alexander Hamilton as the Revenue Marine first, and later as the Revenue Cutter Service on 4 August 1790, it is the United States' oldest continuous seagoing service.
The Coast Guard received its present name through an act of Congress signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson on 28 January 1915 that merged the Revenue Cutter Service with the U.S. Life-Saving Service, and provided the nation with a single maritime service dedicated to saving life at sea and enforcing the nation's maritime laws

Though we say goodbye to this memorial day
with those we've lost, in our hearts, renewed,
their memories live on and will never pass away.
Like a cutter at sea, it's crew stalwart and true,
they pave the way for the rest of us to carry on,
to love yesterday, see tomorrow
but live for today.

Thank You Ronboy for the "adjustment."

Too many years at sea may have waterlogged your brain. :slap: (j/K)

Though traditionally, Memorial Day was called Decoration Day and celebrated on May 30th, until June 28, 1968 with the passing of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, this thread is meant to garner ongoing recognition to all military both here and elsewhere on and off the boards, rather than just only on occasion as part of a holiday.

Cheers.

Where are the photos of shirtless Navy cadets climbing the soapy rock in their academy every year??

You appreciate the idea of an entire service academy having their Plebes climb a hu-gantuous phallic symbol that is greased up as a sign of accomplishment of training?

It is rather Dominate / Submisive.

That's how future Active Duty and Sean Cody models are recruited. :sex: Does the Navy have a rule that they all have to first shave each-other before they climb the rock? It can't be that not a single recruit can't grow some chest hair by Freshmen year. :-)

It's times like ^ these that one can appreciate being a woman and the sleuthing abilities her anatomy can provide, especially being the only one in a pile of stacked testosterone.

Starting Strong

New reality series starting tonight called Starting Strong.
Follows new potential recruits through their decision on joining the Army.
Airs tonight (Sunday) on select Fox affiliates.

...a 10-part reality-style television series that follows young civilians, male and female, as they work side-by-side with real Soldiers in order to gain a better understanding of the Army.

After they've had ample time to see what Army life is really like, they decide for themselves if it's something they want to do.

The show, a partnership between the Army and Ricky Schroder Productions, debuts June 2, 2013, on 16 FOX affiliates across the country.

Since it's only airing on certain Fox channels not all, here is the first episode.

Have just watched the Air Force episode , i found it so "riveting" , i was a "Reserve" in The Royal Air Force , Partly guilt , partly revenge............:##: , and full of "righteous piss" , i also wanted to see where my guy died .

After Helmand and after my shame at the thought of revenge i resigned my Commission .
I saw the bravery of these guys and girls 1st hand , it can and is a very thankless task at times .

My awe and admiration of serving members and veterans just grows with each personal story that i am told about .
Elmostoe , thank you........(*8*)

^yw.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Medic.

I've been there (re:all your feelings). I've lost many to the service.
Once you see the hero in those you've lost, your heart gets bigger, you see their sacrifice through their eyes. That humble heart is what strengthens your eternal bond with them, giving you a fire to have a passion for life and not take things or those around you for granted.

It does get better.

I work at testing those who desire to enlist in our services. I swear I never looked so young. I am but one of several stations around the nation. We see 100 person floor counts daily. My heart swells.

Since the conversation has drifted to the flyboys let me do a little course correction...

Stand Navy out to sea. Fight our battle cry!
We'll never changed our course, so vicious foes steer shy-y-y-y
Roll out the TNT. Anchors aweigh. Sail on to victory!
And sink their bones to Davy Jones! Hooray!!!

ROLL CALL

Although recognition may be easily deflected, often, respect and gratitude can go a long way.

Up for making it a monthly thing for shits and giggles....

Anyone currently serving or who has formerly served in any military, if you wish, check in here.

For all members here who were or are U.S. military, past and present, check in by shouting out your branch so we may all thank you and know the debt of gratitude we owe your badass 'awesomeness'.

Just make sure you're wearing clothes, as hard as that may be....(save it for the tents)
