Reminds me of a sci-fi short story where an alien team had been sent to assess whether the humans on Earth had anything of value to offer the Stellar Republic. Watching newscasts and listening to radio, they had just about decided that Earth should be quarantined...
Then the misfit of the outfit, who had been observing the planet itself, saw the Taj, and threw the image up on the main screen. The entire team gazed at it in silent awe, and the Earth got a reprieve: humans would be allowed to venture as far as the ten nearest stars, and if they produced more such beauty contact would be made.

My great aunt had a set just like that. They were all in a locked display case and only came out on Christmas and Easter.
