I went on an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship retreat when in university at a camp that had a mountain lake like that and a small island out from shore that some of us swam to one night. It was interesting that some declined to make the swim since the depth at one point between shore and island was over a thousand feet: for some reason that much depth of water was frightening to quite a few people, even though we were only dealing with the top meter or two!

^ Makes me think of some Disney stuff, but not sure of what exactly.

To me it brought to mind a tree in a U.S. National Forest where someone found a Civil War era rifle partly enclosed by the trunk at the base. Apparently someone a century and a half ago leaned his rifle against that tree and for some reason failed to retrieve it. Last I heard there was a legal situation over whether removing the rifle was legit under federal law!

Spectacular light and sound show! Though I couldn't care less about celebrating anything having to do with the Chinese government, this demonstrates how you can put on a show without having to use fireworks, explosives, or pyrotechnics. The point being that animal rights activists are looking for substitutes for the typical American fireworks celebrations, which frighten animals, and often cause both domestic and wild animals to panic and get lost, injured.or killed. Something like this could be a humane substitute.

Being sooooooo much wild space in expansive America, one could be shocked there are no more dog and pet hotels for that holiday, like the ones in Catalonia because of damn San Juan.
