I always get teary-eyed with this song for some reason. What do you guys think the lyrics of this song are implying?

One of my favorite songs:

well the lyrics are similar to your posts. That is why you are teary.
I don't find the lyrics are similar to my posts so no teary for me. :)

People can post the songs that are teary to them. I may find one ...

Telstra, you always put a smile on my face with the weirdest things you say, but you're sorta right on this one. :(

Post your song!

i also like this song, pretty meaningful:

I listened to it twice and my mind was going in different directions, trying to figure out what the song is about. Here's my interpretation:

One guy is talking to his brother, wanting to share things with him, confess his dreams and his fears. He just wants to talk to someone, but he doesn't know who to talk to except his brother. But he's unable to get through to him because there's a problem with the brother - he's autistic, or has mental problems, perhaps schozophrenia.

The man is wondering if his brother is aware that there's something wrong with him. "Are you lost or incomplete? Do you feel like a puzzle, you can't find your missng piece?" The man is feeling like there's something missing in his life, too, and he wants to know how his brother feels and how he copes. "Tell me, how do you feel?"

Then I feel that the brother is listening and understanding what he's hearing, and he wants to reply, but his response is inside his own head. He's trying to answer his brother, but the voices in his head speak a different language and even if he could speak, his brother wouldn't understand.

But his reponse is, "You take a picture of something you see, " meaning you can imagine the future. But "in the future, where will I be?" Then he tries to explain, that he knows how his brother feels, "so you don't know where you're going (neither do I) and you wanna talk." "And you feel like you're going where you've been before" (meaning, every day's the same as the day before). And even though you're telling people how you feel, no one seems to understand, and you feel ignored.

But I do understand. Let's talk...

Okay, did I over analyze it? !oops!

LOL, i don't need to listen twice.
Basically the song is about his future and where is he going.

Awesome job! I was thinking along the same lines, but somehow homosexuality (the secret) fits into the equation as well. ;)

well, this song suppose to make you strong.
quote: "light up"

To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long good-byes
I nearly do...

That part always gets me.

In light of that, it's possible he could be telling his brother that he's gay and feels tormented by it, but he feels comfortable telling him because he knows his brother won't tell anyone.

Then he begins to think about his brother's problem, and realizes that his brother is also in a place where he can't talk to anyone, either.

The brother may not understand what the man is telling him, but he does sense he's feeling troubled and isolated, and that's something he does understand.

Coldplay often sing rather ambiguous lyrics, and I can't beat NedNickerson's explanation.

As for myself, I well remember a song of theirs from back in 2000, the year they first came to prominence.

It remains, in my opinion, their best.

^ "i never meant to cause you trouble"

is about depression and live life aimlessly.
