It was the year 1978, I was 21 and had just moved to San Francisco for the first time. I had an apartment lined up already as I was going to school there next semester. I had gone there early to find a job. I'm a gay male and it shouldn't be hard to find a decent job, I had thought. Back then, the wages were pretty decentso, I looked through the want ads, job place, even went door to door. Nothing, until one day I looked in the paper again and saw a help wanted, but the problem was it was at a morgue. However, I went for a interview anyway. I got dressed up shirt, tie and suit, the weather that day was around high 6o's, so the suit was pretty cool.
I went to the morgue and entered the lobby. The place was huge - windows all around, the desk was as big as my car; the lone secretary was sitting at the desk; she was on the phone. There was a family sitting in the lobby also, they were crying. I went up to the desk "I'm Matt Bunson, I'm here for the 1 o'clock interview," I said with a smile. She looked at her appointment book, "Ok, please have a seat I'll get, Mr. Shah".
I sat down on a chair next to the desk, a guy came out - he was in a suit and tie and looking very, very, cute; he must a been in his 30's. He asked if I was being helped, and I said, “Yes”. He went to the family in the lobby and they all went back.
“He'll be right with you,” she said.
"Thank you" I said
Five minutes later the man waked down the hall towards me he was the most beautiful man I have ever seen, golden blond hair, very tanned; he was around 6'' tall, broad shoulders very very, good looking. He walked toward me, “You must be Matt?"
I said, "Yes."
He shook my hand; his hand was warm and friendly. I gave him my resume. We went down the hall to his office.
"Have a seat, Matt," he said. He went round to his desk and sat down. He looked at my resume, and asked some questions.
'So you're going to school? My son is also going to school here, he's also working for me this summer for an internship" he said.
"I need someone this summer for cleaning up the bodies that come in, and just doing the general cleaning and or what ever. We will train you during your time here and we will give you what you need, money, housing if you don't have a place," he said.
I looked straight at his eyes, his eyes met mine and I knew this was the place for me......
Chapter 2 next week......
