The most prevalent homophobic words you've been called

Here is the word puff used in popular culture, as you can hear the singer clearly does not have a northern accent.

It is my contention, your honour, that contary to the assertion of my learned friend, the words puff and poof are distinct entities in colloquial English and not merely variations in pronounciation.

From where we live, Sheffield (where Fellows is from) is the south. London is deep south.
I was in that city for three years for uni, lovely place, lovely people.

Sissy & Nancy, both popular derogatory terms when I was in high school in the mid 1970s (South Africa). Thereafter never again.

Sissy and nancy bring to mind pansy and ponce which were a similar style of put down. Sissy has now taken on a new meaning, people with specific sexual tastes use it to indentify themselves, it is no longer an insult.

" I'm just a simple northern boy
I hope you'll understand
Love makes me shy and that is why
I brought along a whole brass band"

In German, Puff = brothel.

I concur. And it is my contention, your hono(u)r, that puff refers to a drag on a cigarette, a very small cloud of smoke, and/or a magic dragon, while poof, an abbreviated form of poofter, is ever-so-slightly antiquated British slang for a homosexual male.

Add to that "pouffe", a small padded footrest!
