Ok, Who has saw this? i just watched it today for the first time, i think its about the most "real" depiction of todays kids, even tho it came out in 95' nothings really changed for the youth of america. I can relate to it, because it reflected my teenage years to a certain extent, Living in new york for most of my life, i remember being 14, tucking my pant leg into my shoe, walking into a convienent store and dropping a 40 down there, haha, i remember skatboarding in the park, and buying a dime bag of of some dealer, and having house parties, just about everything except the HIV..and the rape scene thats how me and my friends acted..

Im just totally blown away right now, i thought it was a brilliant movie..because its real..

For those of you who have seen it, what is your opinion?

But....do you remember the weekly orgies, raping girls that were too blitzed to stop you, or parents being totally absent?

Sorry; I couldn't decide if it was a satire or just another over-hyped indie when I saw it...It definitely deserved the rating, but not the hype.

I never personally experienced that, but i know its happened to some kids out there, some of my friends parents were always never around, thats why wed kick it at one of our friends house when the parents were out.

at 14; i was nothing like any of the characters in the movie; but hanging out with cousins in LA during those summers growing up taught me that i had lived a sheltered life.

i kept thinking of one particular cousin (rest in peace) as i watched the movie and somehow understood that the portrayal in the movie was very close to real.

i thank god that i didn't have to worry about making any of those decisions those kids had to make when i was their age; because at their age, i would have made the wrong ones.

My friend and I started watching this movie at her house. I left early. Larry Clark is master of indie trash. And I will admit that a lot of his work seems part of a pedophiles fantasies.

I don think its part of a pedophiles fasntasie, it definatley does straddle on the border of informative and exploitive, sometimes crossing that border a little bit back and forth, it doesnt show very explicit nudity, plus all of the actors and actresses that had a nude part, were infact 18 or over, I think of it as a social commentary on the extreme part of teenage life in the mid 90s.

I do think the very ending, where casper raped HIV Positive jenny while she was knocked out on drugs, to be very gritty and raw, and a little extreme, but it shows us how careless, and unrestrained kids can be in that type of environment.

I think that it does go over the line of exploitation, and doesn't bother looking back. You have a guy that screws virgins exclusively, and we're shown that several times. It concentrates more on the lurid aspects of adolescence without giving a reason to cheer for any of them.

I appreciate that some of the behaviors need to be discussed, but give as a few good points and explore them, not as many scenes of teen-flesh as you can film and then rationalize afterwards as "this is how kids really act". That's just BS...

Yeah, i agree with that. I think its really informative also, especially in the part Where Rosario Dawsons Character And Chloe Sevignys Character go get tested for stds, Rosario Dawsons character has had Sexual intercourse many times, vaginally and analy, many times without protection, and her test turns up negative, while chloe sevignys character has only had sex once, unprotected, and yet her test results turn up positive for HIV, it gos to show, it only takes one time to contract a disease, and kids should be more considerate to use a contraceptive during sexual interourse. its like a wake up call..

It was sorta okay. The photography was gorgeous. But, Larry Clark has, I think, an insistent and unhealthy preoccupation with adolescents. The movie seemed more like exploitation than art. BTW, didn't the male actor who "got infected" at the end of the movie commit suicide?

yeah, Justin pierce, Comitted Suicide in like 2000..

It's a pretty good movie if not a little over exaggerated. I really, really despised Casper and that dumb ass Telly. I hate guys like that. The scene where they ganged up on the black kick and beat him to a bloody pulp, the scene where they yelled out "faggot" to the gay couple, etc., complete dick heads and I've known many kids and teenagers who act just like them when I was growing up.

If you guys remember the legless man on the subway in that one scene, I've actually seen him in person and he does infact beg for change on subways. Pretty interesting.

The scary part is children are having sex and acting like this. One of my young cousins was caught in the school bathroom receiving oral sex and he has sex quite often without fear of catching a disease. He also smokes pot frequently and he's been doing it since he was 14.

Kids is a little over exaggerated and over rated but I liked the message it was trying to send.

If anyone out there likes the movie Kids, you should check out Bully. It's a similar movie but based on true events. One of my favorite movies, even better than Kids in my opinion.

1) Bully: Yeah: Not only do get a some strip scenes, you also get a scene where Nick Stahl is screwing a girl while watching a gay porn movie. Weird: I think I'm getting old. I have no problem with nudity or sex as long as either a) it's part of the plot, or b) it's supposed to be erotic, but a scene that's put in there just for the sex/nudity seems sorta anti-sexy for me. I think that sex/nudity reinforced by the plot is so much more effective than just, " DUDE! Sexy guy! Take yoiur shirt off in formal restaurant! NOW!". Now, if there is some sort of dare in place, or he has to in order to save someone's life, now that's more interesting.

[Yeah, I'm a fan of the Top Gun locker room scene, even though everyone should know by now that there is no officer's locker room at that facility...we learned a lot about the characters through their bearing of their souls....and underwear.]

2) Kids: Yeah, I totally buy that the way to teach kids (who think that they're invincible) to wear condoms is to show that the more sex you have, the less likely you are to catch anything. Oh, and let's wrap it into a boring arthouse flick whose main draw is the sex, not the plot. Yeah...

Kids is the Larry Clark film I liked least. Bully is also on my "skip it" list. I found both films coy and melodramatic.

Another Day in Paradise is a terrific movie by Larry Clark. That's the one to see. But then there are actually really good actors in it. I also like the editing and cinematography.

Ken Park, while lurid, is at least not coy about it. I think it's worth seeing if you can find it.

Did Larry Clark also do "Gummo"?
